Here are the players (listed in reverse order of size).   Assign them minutes as you see fit, either how many you think they should get or how many you think they will get.  Allocate the minutes.  Keep in mind that in a regulation-length game, you have 200 minutes to allocate among the players.  So, who gets them?

Sergej Vucetic

Walter Pitchford

Leslee Smith

Shavon Shields

David Rivers

Nick Fuller

Terran Petteway

Nathan Hawkins

Tai Webster

Ray Gallegos

Deverell "D Nasty" Biggs

Benny Parker

I'm confused on the 200 minutes?  If a game is only 40 minutes, why are we allocating 200 minutes.  What am I missing?

You're not planning on playing them one player at a time are you?  Have you been taking coaching lessons from Kidney?

Speaking of the world's greatest coach, there was a possible Kidney sighting in Lincoln this past weekend....

Going by 5s is easier to add  :D

I think we'll be down to 9 players getting regular minutes by conference play, so I guess that's where I'm at

Throwback, this is weird, but your numbers of minutes assigned to the various players adds up to exactly 200.  Exactly.  And -- this is really freaky deaky -- if you multiply the number of positions on the floor for a team by the number of minutes in a game, it adds up to -- you guessed it -- 200.  Weird, huh?

(Just gotta flip you some good-natured crap, kldm.   ;) )

On a serious note, throwback, if your numbers end up being correct, it would mean that juniors and seniors would account for only 35% of the team's minutes this year.  That's a young team.  And it's a team that pretty much everyone who follows the program thinks will be the best team we've fielded since probably the '10-'11 season.

Let that sink in a bit.  If SENIORS alone accounted for only 35% of the minutes, we'd consider it a young team.  But you're predicting -- as is pretty much everyone else -- that our JUNIORS AND SENIORS will account for ony about a third of the minutes.

Heck, next year, assuming no unanticipated roster turnover, we'll still be young.  And we should be even better than this year.

Given that, if this group can't win an NCAA tourney game by the time Shavon is a senior (and hopefully at least a year before that) then, crap, I don't even want to finish that thought.

Edited to add:  My prediction would indicate that juniors and seniors would account for 36.5% of minutes.  nustudent's prediction would be 40%.

Thanks Norm for the thread title and also for not using the word 'memory'.   ;)

I have to admit that I had put some numbers together a couple of months ago after it was apparent that our roster was set for the upcoming year.  After reading the reports from the scrimmage, I've tweaked the numbers slightly, but also included points per game.  Can't wait for the season to start and to see the guys in person.

NAME MINUTES POINTS

Biggs  16  6

Fuller  14  5

Gallegos  24  9

Hawkins  8  3

Parker  4  1

Petteway  22  8

Pitchford  24  10

Rivers  18  5

Shields  24  10

Smith  18  6

Vucetic  4  1

Webster  24  8

Totals  200  72

Norm, a bit surprised you have Rivers for only 10 a game in light of discussion a week or so ago ?

Good points - seeing this young team grow throughout this season will be fun, and that improvement has the extra advantage of building up the starting point for the team heading into next season as with nearly everyone back, there should be little drop off and worries about replacing a lot of graduated leadership, like we may experience early this season.

This year we return about 60% of our minutes from last season, and next season we could return up to 85% of our minutes from this season, so next season could be special.

I think we're two more big men November signees - especially one from Texas ;)  - from having a special 2014-15...

Double Digit Minutes players under Tim Miles in Division I

** NEBRASKA **
2013 -  8 [Record 15-18] (Mike Peltz only played 14 games)
** COLORADO ST **
2012 -  8 [Record 20-12]
2011 -  8 [Record 19-13]
2010 - 10 [Record 16-16] (One player with only 20 games)
2009 - 12 [Record 9-22] (Only one player played all 31 games - Three players with less than 20 games)
2008 -  9 [Record  7-25]
** NORTH DAKOTA STATE **
2007 -  9 [Record 20-8 ] (Two players with 20 or less games)
2006 -  7 [Record 16-12] (One players averaged 9 min/game)
2005 - **** ONLY PLAYED 8 DIV I GAMES - NDSU MAKING TRANSITION TO DIV I ****

Barring injury the most players you should see playing double digits this year is 9.

It's quite likely that this number will be 8 with a couple of guys near double digits.

Max = 12
Min = 7
Mode = 8
Avg = 8.875

On a semi-related note, I think Deverell would have averaged a minimum of 25 minutes per game last year and really set himself up for major minutes this year.  We would then have another scholarship for 2014.

Yeah, I thought about that as I was putting my numbers together.  Not playing in the scrimmage kind of put some other guys in the forefront and I probably assigned minutes based in part on seeing the other players and not seeing him.

My math skills aren't good enough to even attempt this exercise, but I'm surprised by the low numbers for Benny. He brings experience at point. I'd think Benny would get 10 minutes a game minimum, wouldn't be shocked if he starts in the opener. His shooting pct. will go up this year, and his turnovers will go down. Not saying he's the most talented of the PG candidates, but he's likely to be the steadiest.

I think everyone else would be as he'd have to start over Tai Webster.

He has Webster and Deverell in front of him and maybe even Peltz.  Pettaway might also handle the ball.  On the list of the three fastest guys, he wasn't on it.  Unless he's gone from offensive liability to dead eye shooter in the offseason it's tough to see him getting many minutes.
