Tough tough loss.

Nebraska is in on a few PGs that are just as good, if not better than Dorsey. In fact, the coaching staff is visiting 4-Star PG Jimmy Whitt this weekend (Who, at #52, is ranked 30+ spots ahead of Dorsey in the Rivals rankings).

Nebraska is also in the top 3 of 4-Star Rivals100 PG Glynn Watson, who at #85, is ranked only 1 spot behind Dorsey.

Nebraska will be fine...and who knows...if Nebraska's season goes as well as it potentially could, then Nebraska will end up on the radar of even more highly-ranked PGs.

Every time we lose a recruit, guys say, "Don't worry, we'll be fine." That may well be true, but eventually, we've got to show that we can win a legitimate recruiting battle. It's hard to remember the last time we actually did that. Nebraska was clearly the best option on the table for Tarin Smith. Abraham came here because of Kenya Hunter. I suppose Jacob Hammond was the last legitimate recruiting battle we won.

People realize that if Andrew White commits elsewhere, we will have fallen two short of filling the scholarship numbers for 2014, right? When the late period ended and I brought this issue up, folks said, "Don't worry, we'll be fine. There are plenty of good players left. Terran and Walt didn't even sign until the summer, remember?" Well, how are things looking now? If we lose White, we're going into 2015 needing to sign as many as six quality players. It's hard to fathom being able to do that. Even if we do sign White, we've still fallen short of filling the numbers once again. We just can't keep doing that.

Guys, I'm not trying to be negative. I'm only trying to inject a dose of reality into the discussion. Everyone on this board loves this coaching staff, and that includes me. I wake up every day thankful that coach Miles is here, and I feel he's built a great staff. These guys recruit their asses off, and I believe they do a great job of selling the program with skill, intensity and enthusiasm. That doesn't mean there's not reason to be concerned about recent recruiting results.

We all got a taste of success last season, and we all want it to continue. That means recruiting has to be at a high enough level to maintain what they've built. This isn't the NBA. We can't just sign Terran Petteway to a long-term contract. I'm definitely concerned about how things have gone on the recruiting trail, and if they don't improve, no one here should expect the recent success to continue. That's just reality.

Not saying they won't be fine but this part got me. You know fall signing day, where over 85% of BCS players sign, happens before the first game. So there may not be much left after it starts.

Yeah I know. I think Nebraska will have someone signed in the fall. The reason that I put the part in there about Nebraska's expected success this coming season is due to the fact that there will be limited after the fall signing period. Since there will be limited numbers, it will be good for Nebraska's chances of being at the top of the list for the few remaining highly-ranked prospects.

I obviously agree that we need to start filling classes. There's also a fine line between filling them with high quality players and filling them with question marks and maybes. We used to fill them with question marks, maybes, and players not fit for this level of play. When Miles came on board, we instantly jumped into contention for a level of recruit that we hadn't been able to touch since the beginning of time. We also haven't been able to land the highly ranked recruit yet. It's easy to say that we'll be fine. We all hope that's the case, but we don't really know for sure. Id say we're still a ways away from consistently winning these recruiting battles. The facilities aren't enough all by themselves and while we had a decent year last year, it's not enough for the outsiders to truly buy in yet. I think we are just 1 or 2 commits away from the floodgates opening. We need those couple guys to commit to let everyone take notice. I think/hope one of those guys is Morrow.

I think too many look at basketball recruiting like football recruiting.  As another poster pointed out we may have better or equal options for 2015.  We don't get to just stockpile players and for every 20 guys we hear about 18 of them are going to go somewhere else.

I am bummed about the open 2014 scholarships but with the rise of transfers I think you are going to see more coaches in Nebraska's situation (not a blue blood)  (yet!) keep some powder dry.

I like how we are trying to build sustained success and 2015 is going to be a key, key class.  I still am hopeful we land White.

Miles' high-school recruiting is concerning.  Even at CSU it seemed like most of his best recruits were transfers (Iverson, Eikmeier, Ogide).

I understand not just filling scholarships with questionable recruits - but with Leslee's injury and if Walt & Moses get in foul trouble or injured themselves - I think we'll regret not going harder after a guy like David Wacker.

Hindsight is 20/20. We may regret not letting Wacker's offer be a commitable one, but that's after Leslee goes down and IF one of our rostered guys gets injured or in foul trouble. It's also hard to let every David Wacker commit and put yourself out of the running for recruits still available who are higher on your priority list.

I don't disagree with you, we might be lacking for depth and regretting some earlier decisions but it's just an extremely fine line.

It's not ideal to have too many scholarships go unused, but would we rather be full of inferior players or have an opening for an Andrew White with the possibility of missing on him?

I'm concerned, but no panic yet.

Really don't think Miles is going to be around here long if he cant recruit.  He'll head out while the getting is good and find a job with a better basketball player population.

I think A White is a pipe dream.  Really hope Miles can sign Morrow.

Recruits may leave Lincoln muttering,"Dude, be a fool."

That last bit might have worked out a lot better for you if you had left the comma out.  Then again probably not much...

This loss hurts because the connection between Hunter and the aau club. If a kids gonna leave home you would think it would be to a team w great connections to his aau team. Yes Watson and Whitt r still on the table. Nebraska needs white and morrow to commit so they can work on these guys.

I have always thought Nebraska has a better chance of landing either Whitt or Watson. They don't live nearly as far away from Lincoln as Dorsey and Crawford do. Would've been nice to land Dorsey, but I like Whitt, Watson, and Crawford more. While I think Nebraska has little to no chance to land Crawford, I think Nebraska has a real chance to land Whitt or Watson. Watson's final 3 are Nebraska, Purdue, and Creighton.

Oh good grief.

We lost out on a four star, while in his top 3. Minnesota graduates their point guard next year. We signed one in 2014.

We are in on some better than ever recruits.

For those who are hoping for signs of a Tim Miles demise . . . this isn't it.

Nobody wants to see Miles' demise.  We're just disappointed that with our facilities and a Coach of the Year who has won everywhere and coached the Big Ten's leading scorer last year - we're still losing recruiting battles to average programs like Minnesota and Iowa that offer nothing that we can't.  I seriously doubt Dorsey picked Minnesota because he was afraid of Tarin Smith.

This is a very important recruiting class for us, and when I hear that we are starting to show serious interest in recruits like Billy Wampler and Michael Jacobson, it worries me.

The way I'm seeing it, right now none of these kids want to be the first legit player to pick Nebraska.  Nobody wants to be the guinea pig.  At some point, we need a kid with legit offers from other major programs to say "you know what...I'll be the first of my kind at Nebraska" and go there.  We can't sell sustained success, exposure or a pathway to the NBA.  Probably 90%+ of the kids that are top-150 players believe that they have the ability to play in the NBA.

It has been so long ago since we've had a legit NBA prospect that he's currently the highest paid assistant coach in the NBA...his career is long over.  Even Minnesota (who hasn't had anybody drafted since 2004), or Iowa (nobody since 2007), beats us in the exposure department.  At least, thats the perception these kids have.  These kids want a stage for people to see what they can do.  Right now, we have one current example of getting exposure for a great player.  That's the first time in a LONG time for our program.  Negative recruiting against NU right now would be easy.  Other coaches are going to call last year a fluke.  They'll point to the 16-year track record, the lack of national TV games, etc.  And even with Terran...thus far we've shown the ability to create a scorer...but we haven't shown ourselves to be a pathway to the NBA (yet).  TP led the Big Ten in scoring yet was projected somewhere in the mid-2nd round in the draft.

I won't even get into the other means that schools use to get kids (money, other, etc.).  Just from a merit basis...despite all our new positives, if I was the parent of an elite basketball player I would have a tough time sending them to Nebraska if I thought my son had an NBA future.  Shoot, last year we weren't even the big story in our own state, other than for a couple of weeks at the end of the year.  Imagine that you are Ed Morrow Sr. and ask yourself what you would want for your son.  You can send him to programs that have made noise in the NCAA tournament before (where your kid will get great exposure), or you can roll the dice on Tim Miles and Nebraska.  That's a real tough call...especially when Nebraska literally has never had their hands on a top-100 type player before...would we even know how to manage him?  Promote him?  Get the most out of him?  These are questions that are being asked.

So...until we get that kid & family that decide to try to forge that path for the first time at Nebraska...I feel like we are going to plateau.  BUT...if a guy does take that shot (like Morrow), it could have a domino effect.  Kids want to see that similar high-profile kids have also picked NU.  They want to be a part of a good class.  You don't want to be Glynn Watson and pick NU, and the rest of the players in your class heading to Lincoln are 2-stars and 3-stars.  Then you wonder if you've made the right choice.

Its not a lost cause though...kids pay attention to pedigree.  Getting Moses Abraham to transfer here, even though he hadn't been an elite player at G-Town...kids are going to notice a that a former elite prospect picked NU.  That is why Andrew White is potentially HUGE.  This is a kid that has plenty of options, is a former top-50 player, and is coming from KU.  If he picks NU...it will open eyes of recruits and parents across the country that yes, Nebraska is a legitimate place to consider.

All we need is that first one.  And like some have been saying...we need it to happen soon.  The longer we go without a commit...that will make us less attractive to recruits also.

When you havin 2 open schollies yyou can sign Wacker and still have a scholly to give. I gots no prob if coach finna keep one scholarsip open. It be havin TWO shipS left that frustrate me.

Unlike Nebraska with Miles, Minnesota has a coach with some kind of pedigree.  EVERYONE knows Richard Pitino's roots.  They know his system after seeing his father run it for the better part of three decades.  Pitino's system takes good point guards and makes them great (in college at least).  For that reason alone, Dorsey's decision makes sense.

Despite his accolades and outstanding embracing to Twitter, Miles' exposure is still limited.  Give Miles time.  Once he is more established, Nebraska will be able to bring in the Dorsey's of the world.

I feel like we lost this kid because he didn't make him seem like a big deal. When Cornish was available everyone wanted to know what he was doing and we were all waiting for his announcement. For Dorsey I haven't seen him discussed on twitter at all and no knowledge from husker fans.

I seriously doubt we lost Dorsey because not enough fans from Nebraska were tweeting him.

If a kid picks a school based on how many folks tweet him all I will say is no thanks to that kid.  Kids really haven't gotten that shallow yet have they?

Who exactly is your target audience for this post -- Bluejay fans? This has so much straw man in it that it easily could furnish the nests for 1,000 birds and still have some straw left over.  B)
