"This is the first time I had a center to block shots like (Jahlil) Okafor and Cliff (Alexander). He can clean up. We tried to put a lot of pressure on the basketball and not give up the open 3." The Nebraska-bound Morrow caused havoc in the paint on both ends of the floor, shooting 12-for-17 and finishing with more dunks (6) than the Bengals had 3s (5). From what I've seen of him in action, he'll be a B1G replacement for David Rivers next year. Yeah, he'd be like a rich man's David Rivers, so to speak. In watching his game film, I was impressed with his rebounding and ability to get put-backs. He might not get the put-backs as easily in the college game but his rebounding motor is always revved. I think he could easily step into Rivers' role. Thing about next year is that I don't know that Rivers would start if he still had eligibility. And Morrow coming in as a freshman might not start in Rivers' place. He isn't a point. So, take one spot off the board where he won't be starting. Who does he beat out among Petteway, Shields, White, Pitchford, and a Big Man to be named later for one of the four remaining starting spots? Someone has to come in off the bench. And I could see this roster having a pretty tremendous set of backups rotating in, whichever players that happens to be. Quote

It's obvious from available videos that Ed's role on his high school team is as a back-to-the-basket center. Any chance he could serve that same role for the Huskers? Regarding Ed's height, Brian Rosenthall reported back on May 31, 2014: "Morrow, who recently turned 17, said he’s still growing, that he’s gone from 6-foot-6 at the start of last season, to his current 6-7½. Both measurements, he said, are without shoes." With shoes, he has to be 6-9, right? Tim Miles said some time ago that he views 6-9 to 6-11 measurements as functionally equivalent.. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Well, he certainly has long arms. He's not bulky, though. And, Swan, you remember watching that game on TV back in mid-December where they played St. Lucy's or something like that. The other big was a bit bulkier and was frankly pushing Ed around a bit. I don't think Ed is the guy who holds down the low post defensively because I don't think he's quite stout enough. Long enough, yes, but not stout enough. Can he get there eventually? Perhaps. I think he can score with his back to the basket just by being quick. I think he's a good stretch 4 and once he fills out, he'll be a high quality 4. But I don't see him as a center. Quote

Unless he's wearing heels, shoes don't add 1 1/2 inches. I'd bet he'd measure about 6-8 in shoes. Quote

But height lying seems to be a bit rampant in all competetive basketball contexts--it just seems harder to do so when talking about measurement in socks. Shoes have a potential "riser" effect. For example, here is a 1.25 inch shoe riser effect: The official measurements of Kevin Durant on the Dredraft Express Website are: . . . Height Without Shoes: 6′ 9″ Height With Shoes: 6′ 10.25″ Quote

I'm also of the understanding he has something like a 7'0" wingspan plus a pretty decent vertical leap. Most importantly, he has a rebounder's mentality. He'll be going after the boards with some want-to. AuroranHusker 1 Quote
