jimmykc Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Let's have another of those meaningless polls which I hate since this is dead time for real news and August begins with me still optimistic about all of my favorite teams. Please realize I am hyped up on coffee and a six run comeback in the ninth against a seemingly unhittable King Felix. Quote
49r Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Yeah that was a crazy comeback! But more importantly, the Royals got #9 yesterday. Quote
tcp Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 None of those things will happen. Let's Go Oak-land! Clap Clap ClapClapClap Quote
nuhusker7 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 The only reason that the football team makes it back to a BCS game before the basketball team wins a tournament game is because the BCS game will happen first, they both happen this year Quote
Concrete Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I'll say Nebraska wins an NCAA tournament game first. Edit: Read the poll wrong, I thought it was Nebraska wins a BCS bowl, not just makes one. I still might side with Nebrasketball though, it will be tough for us to get through Michigan and Ohio State in the coming years. Those two programs are recruiting laps around the rest of the conference Quote
uneblinstu Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Huskers have a real shot at the BCS this year if they can have a decent defense. They've got the athletes, they lack the experience. Quote
a0t0w0 Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I just think Bo is too stubborn when it comes to his defense to make it to a BCS game. UCLA, OSU, Wisconsin (b1g championship) will haunt me for awhile. Love the offense. All three are unlikely. Biggest unknown is our basketball team. I'll vote for them. Quote
Cookie Belcher Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 If the Red Sox make the playoffs as a Wild Card, they have a 1/16 chance of winning the World Series. 1/2 chance to win the single game Wild Card, then if they win that, 1/8 chance to win the World Series. I'd give the football team about a 1/8 or 1/6 shot of making it to a BCS game. Basketball winning a tourney game is the lowest odds of them all, but the one I would most want to happen. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 You forgot about the Cubbies. That said, I think we will see the BCS bowl and NCAA win this season. Quote

Full disclosure: I'm also a Red Sox fan. I'll be going to that series next Saturday down in KC. I was watching that game last night. Didn't think they had a chance. What a rally! jimmykc 1 Quote

Bo's shown an willingness to address issues and make changes where necessary since the end of last season. He's learning somewhat on the fly, but he's grown quite a bit since he first got the job. Agreed. Making sure Beck stayed a big part of the coaching staff was a huge step in the right direction. Now, fix the D and this team has a legit shot at the BCS bowl bid in '13. Quote

jimmykc Posted August 12, 2013 Author Report Posted August 12, 2013 Hey, we saw the only game the Red Sox won on Saturday and the Rays decided to go south at the same time, so I'm ok. Also, the Royals look like a pretty decent team this year. Nevertheless, just to be spiteful I will not give you one of those green "up" things and will give one to dimes for coming out of the Red Sox closet. By the way, I voted for first NCAA basketball win in my own poll. 49r and Silverbacked1 2 Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 And I gave you a green arrow up for being a Red Sox fans. Even though I am a card carring member of "The Nebraska Yankee" fan club. I will support anybody who loves their team. Quote

colhusker Posted August 12, 2013 Report Posted August 12, 2013 Amazing how many Royal fans have crawled out of the wood work given they finally are winning. Heck the Cubs fans have been showing up for a hundred years knowing they stunk year in and year out and still turned the turnstyle 3 million times. Where have all these supposed Royal fans been? By the way, I voted for first NCAA basketball win in my own poll. I used to be fairly ambivalent towards the Red Sox, actually appreciated the history of the team and Fenway, etc...been to a couple games there even. But, then I lived in Boston for a few years, and if there is anything that can cure a guy of having any respect for the Sawks it is to have to endure listening to WEEI and their incessant chatter and obsession over everything Red Sox 24-7-365. It actually drove me to switch over to NPR for my daily commute. But I don't begrudge anyone being fans of the Red Sox, some of my best friends are Red Sox fans. Quote

jimmykc Posted October 31, 2013 Author Report Posted October 31, 2013 Congratulations to the 6 who picked this. I was not one of them since I didn't want to play the jinx card. Happy Halloween! Norm Peterson and hhcmatt 2 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Congratulations, Jimmy. I was very happy for you when your Bosox won last night. Now, if the Cubs can just come through for our local Chicago fans. I'm looking at you, CWG. By the way, I voted for football because of the way the season laid out and because there are multiple BCS bowls (and you didn't say win) but there's only one World Series and you did say win the series. So, my vote wasn't a knock against the Bosox, just a recognition that there were longer odds for a World Series win than a BCS appearance. Or so I thought. Ask that question again. Let's take a new vote. Quote
49r Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 Hey, now, Norm, it's not over yet! Remember last year, Wisconsin went to the Rose Bowl with like 5 losses...so if they can do it, why not us? But still, yeah, I guess that bet is lost. Quote
