My source says SAT has nothing to do with it. The clearinghouse has to decide whether or not to allow his credits to transfer.

It seems it would have something to do with it.  Otherwise, why the hell did he keep taking the SAT?

It takes a combination of SAT and High School grades in order to qualify to play for the NCAA (and to get into Nebraska).  The lower the grades, the higher the SAT required and vice versa.  Essentially Tai has put together the right set of numbers for Nebraska to believe that Tai is good with the NCAA.

However, if the NCAA decided that the school credits didn't apply, I would guess that Tai would have to take some prep class school here (or somehow ace the SAT).  Do I have all of this right so far?

While the credits may be the ultimate hurdle with the NCAA, you wouldn't even get there without the SAT.  Hyperbolicly speaking, the SAT has everything to do with anything.

Not only do you need certain grades(GPA & SAT/ACT combo), but you are required to have a certain amount of credits in each category(Science, Math, English, Social Studies) for core classes.  So, you need grades and a certain amount of credit hours to fully qualify.  If some of his classes don't transfer, then he might not have the correct amount of credit hours too.

Everytime I log in and see this thread has a new post in it, I gotta admit, I get a little excited.   :)

I do too until I read the post and it's some boring crap about admissions. Someone just tell me when he gets here.

I'm hearing that we should know in 48 hours whether Tai is going to be eligible for this season. For sure by Friday.

If you think the NCAA is going to put a strict timeline on clearing student-athletes, I wish you the best of luck holding your breath. For example, Arizona State's Jahaii Carson two years ago sat around waiting for clearance as a freshman and finally received word mid-fall semester that he would have to sit out his first season. I hope it happens sooner than later, and that it actually does happen for us.

The NCAA Clearinghouse doesn't care about when the season starts. They will go through their process and take their time...

December 1, 2011

VALPARAISO — Bryce Drew certainly could use Vashil Fernandez and Dino Jakolis this season. But the Valparaiso coach no longer expects to have that option.

“We’re planning as if both are going to be out all year,” Drew said. “As of now, we’re counting them as out for the season, unless the NCAA tells us otherwise.”

Fernandez, a 6-10 forward from Jamaica, and Jakolis, a 6-7 forward from Croatia via LaLumiere in LaPorte, have yet to be deemed eligible by the NCAA Clearinghouse. Fernandez has been allowed to practice with the team. Jakolis isn’t even on the roster, and is just a student at Valparaiso.

“The NCAA has told us with the paperwork we’ve gotten on Vashil, he’s fine to do this, this and this; and with Dino, we’re still waiting to figure out if he’s fine to do that, that and that,” Drew said. “You’d think by the end of the semester (in two weeks), we’d get a final answer soon so we can move forward with everything.”

Excited.  Or nervous.  (My thoughts are always, "Oh, please, please, please, not again ...)

But the NCAA has no particular reason to "punish" or specially scritinize Tai Webster.  The reason they were especially hard on Roburt Sallie was because he attended a prep school they were previously concerned was a diploma mill and because he'd had trouble qualifying previously.  We don't have that issue with Tai Webster.  If he nominally meets the apparent criteria, then that should be the end of it, I would think.

There isn't a deadline for the decision. We may not know until a day before the season starts.

We're just poking fun. Obviously there is no hard and fast deadline on this. But, hey, it's a slow time around here.

The difference is that the clearinghouse has been reviewing Tai's case for a while now and were simply waiting for his SAT score. It won't take long for the clearinghouse to make this decision.[/quote

How do you know they have been reviewing it and why would they have been waiting on sat score if it doesn't matter anyway?

While you're waiting, a Tai Webster interview I came across

What were the main deciding factors in you choosing to take up a basketball scholarship with Nebraska?
The main deciding factor for me would have to have been that when me and my family sat down to think about Nebraska we couldn't think of anything wrong with the school. The coaches were good people and great coaches, the school and facilities were amazing and the guys in the team were just good bunch of friendly guys. Nebraska just felt like the perfect place for somebody like myself, had everything you could ever want in a university and more!

Friday came and went and we heard nothing, no surprise to most of us. Where is your source getting his information? The NCAA Clearinghouse does not operate under a strict time frame.

I'd really like to hear who your source is because everything he/she has told you has been pure crap. The NCAA, like has been stated on hear before, is notorious for taking their sweet time with the clearing house. Nobody is gonna know jack squat until Tai is actually here on campus.

I heard the university already found out whether he is eligible or not. I have no idea when they will announce what the decision was. If he is not eligible, they will probably appeal it which could take who knows how long.
