Hooper Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 I guess this is both good and bad. He'll get some good experience (hopefully without injury), but he'll likely be getting to Lincoln toward the end of the summer, while guys like Hawkins and Fuller will be arriving in early June. Quote

Norm Peterson Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 Hopefully it's true that he's still coming. Either way, though, it's less than good news if he won't be here to start the summer. Quote
trickey Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 Do any of you know how long this down under season will go for Tai? Quote
Hooper Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 It looks like the regular season will end in early July. http://www.betexplorer.com/basketball/new-zealand/nbl/fixtures/?timezone=-8 Quote
FredsSlacks Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 He could just as easily get hurt during summer workouts at UNL, so I'm ok with him playing basketball. The article mentions he is still only 17 years old. I think that is a good sign he is still going to develop and get better. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 so, he's not getting paid, then? correct. every international league has the option to pay or not pay players. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 My opinion is that this is a good thing. Would I like that he gets here and build rapport with his new teammates, sure. But that will come. This exercise will allow him to play against good players. That will improve him. Quote
Swan88 Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Tai should be able to play in the New Zealand league and still get here for the summer classes session that begins on July 15. It seems that most Nebrasketball players stay at school for only one summer session, not both summer sessions--does anyone have contrary information? Quote
Cell Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 The season runs from mid April through to the play-offs in July. The team that Tai is on is a low level team in the league, lots of young players (most of the team is between 18 and 23). One american that is on the roster is Vernon Hamilton,a former Clemson point guard that had pre season experience with the Detroit Pistons in 2010. He will be a solid player to work with in practice. Tai will get good playing time and most likely be the 3rd or 4th scoring option. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 I guess I'm looking at it from being conditioned as a Cornhusker fan to disappointment. I'm looking for the next Roburt Sallie situation. So, first you had a rumor. That was followed by a coach's comment. Then something else, I can't recall exactly what. Then there was a tweet from Washut that, don't worry, he's coming. Then Atewe tweeted to him and he said, oh yeah, I'll be there. And then Atewe said that Tai guy is really funny. And then Atewe immediately commits elsewhere. And then Tai decides he's going to hang out in NZ a little longer. Getting him here in June means he's here and you can feel a bit more sure that he's really coming. Yes, I'm fully aware that Washut tweeted he's here. Fully aware of that. Still, as a Husker hoops fan, we've almost been conditioned to expect the worst when it comes to recruiting. Hooper 1 Quote

In basketball, we had Will Harris decommit, couldn't get Roburt Sallie eligible -- twice, Rishawn Norwood dropped out of junior college, Diaz checked the wrong blank on his admission application, Niemann blows his knees out, Vander Joaquim has to drop out of prep school and enrol in a juco, Standhardinger gets ruled ineligible for half a season. hhcmatt Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 The real question is whether or not the talent level of the NBL is high enough to offset him not practicing with our guys. If so, great. If not, it's be nice if he was learning our offense instead. For any worried about him not coming here Daledangdarn and seaofred92 2 Quote

Hooper Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 I don't know if HE ever was quoted as saying it but I do remember it being talked about. I don't believe Tai ever said he'd be here in June, but I believe that Hawkins and Fuller will be arriving on June 7 for the first summer session. If Webster doesn't show for a reason other than bombing the SAT, which I doubt will happen, then he's a king-sized douchebag who lied to his teammates, lied to the staff and lied to the fans. I'd like to think he and his family are better than that. I'd prefer to see Tai in Lincoln in June, because, as you said, once he's here, he's here. I'd also rather see him running in pick-up games with his teammates than playing pro ball back in Kiwi land. However, he will get some good playing experience, so it's not all bad. Keeping my fingers crossed that the curse left with Doc. Quote
