We've lost to better teams by less all season. Duke did not impress me. Definitely not a national championship caliber team.

How in the world did Oregon get a 12 seed?  I'd be pissed if I was Okie State that we had to play such a tough first round opponent.  Just like Nebraska facing Xavier in round 1 in 1991.  No way Xavier was a legit 14 seed.  Clearly better than that.  And Oregon was definitely better than a 12 seed.

 

I remember there seemed to be a lot of angst among Oregonians when Dana Altman was hired.  Fans up there thought their AD had really blown the coaching search BADLY.  Altman was like their 7th choice.

I remember a lot of fans around here not being to enthusiastic about the possibility of NU hiring Altman. Dude is a solid coach. Love Miles, but Altman would've been successful here too, IMO.

If so it was a heck of a play.  Got the player a good two steps towards the hoop.  Could of had a layup.  What that guy was thinking was beyond me.

I wasn't bashing Doc. It just reminded me of all the times over the past few years here that players have looked like they really didn't want to have the ball in their hands when the game was on the line. And it really wasn't a play which could be "drawn up" anyway. For what it is worth, Self has three true point guards already signed for next year. I'm hoping Webster might prove to be one of those who does want to handle the ball for us in those type of situations.

Why didn't Kansas FOUL when they were ahead by three with only a few seconds remaining in regulation? Just silly not to. Cost them the game.

I wasn't bashing Doc. It just reminded me of all the times over the past few years here that players have looked like they really didn't want to have the ball in their hands when the game was on the line. And it really wasn't a play which could be "drawn up" anyway. For what it is worth, Self has three true point guards already signed for next year. I'm hoping Webster might prove to be one of those who does want to handle the ball for us in those type of situations.

 

Yeah one thing about this is we have not had someone who wants it in their hands at the end for a long time.

Actually WSU does have some long time hoops tradition. I was in attendance when they played a MVC playoff game against Drake in Allen fieldhouse, of all places, the last time they got to the final four. Their superstar was Dave Stallworth, who died very early from heart problems. They also had a couple of other pretty fair players, Dave Leach, and Nate (the Snake) Bowman who went to high school in El Paso across the street from where I once worked. That particular team is unfortunately best known for letting Bill Bradley score the most points ever in an NCAA final four game when they used to play for third place before the final game. And that is your basketball history lesson on this fine Easter morn.

1980 or 81 - Xavier McDaniels, Cliff Levingston, Antoine Carr, Gregg Dreiling ( probably misspelled all of them especially the last - proves I wasn't Googling) four NBA players and I'm missing someone else off that team a Aubrey Sharrod maybe?

This just in: The report of Mr. Stallworth's demise was greatly exaggerated. I did google his name, and he seems to be very much alive, although I think heart problems did shorten his NBA career somewhat.

Dean: You know your hoops trivia pretty well, at least the Shocker part, Sherrod was the other (I had to google). Wichita has been a pretty hot spot in the middle of nowhere for home grown basketball talent. Perry Ellis should be the next good KU big man and Darnell Valentine was also a Wichita guy. And while we are mulling around random basketball crap, I have posted several times about my father having the real Dean Smith as his ball boy, since Dean's dad was his high school coach in Emporia. Dean even mentions in his autobiography the three theaters in Emporia he frequented as a boy in which I also spent a lot of time, the Lyric, the Strand, and the Grenada.

Michigan getting it going early scoring a couple touchdowns.  The kicker pulled the 2nd extra point and the score is 13 to 0 4 mins into the game.  And as I am typing this Duke gets a safety and the score is 13 to 2.
