What irks me most about officiating is the inconsistencies.   I know refs aren't going to be able to call every foul, travel, carry, etc.  However, you have to call it both ways.  Case in point.  I was watching I believe St John's/Arkansas.  Arkansas drives.  Defender goes straight up.  Arkansas players bumps into St John's.  Foul on St John's.  Player fouls out.  Very next trip, St John's drives.  Arkansas defender brings arms down.  St John's player bumps into him.  No foul.  How?  I could even understand it if the 2nd play happens 20 minutes later.  But, this was literally back-to-back possessions.

As a fan that gets on refs all I've ever wanted is consistency. Don't care if consistent good or consistent bad just be consistent. And it also makes me shake my head on how arrogant some refs act. If you are so good at your job replay shouldn't be needed. They reviewed a 3 pointer yesterday and shooter was about a foot behind the line. Why in the heck does something that obvious need to be checked. Of course I think refs like reviewing stuff so they can be seen and heard by tv audience.

I think refs are hindered by what they can and cannot review. That sucks— because there are obvious clear and correctable calls/errors that aren’t reviewable.

Hmmm. I thought these types of programs made absolute killings in their non-con playing p5 teams.

Maybe they did. Maybe those aren't going to be the payments going forward though. Got to have money to pay the athletes so not as deep a money pool anymore to buy games. That's my suspicion.

In basketball, since the officials rotate after foul calls, you often get different perspectives on each end of the court. One official may allow a bit more the the other…they could be consistent but if rotations happen to put one official on one end more often than the other..or in the center position more often..then you end up with inconsistencies even though each official individually could be being consistent.

in football, it is generally the same officials making the same calls, so consistency should be better…
