And the CBC pays better?  At least that is what they said when they started talking about it, correct?

Any added money to the coffers is a plus.

You'd think so.  The one thing that this tournament has it that it's backed by TV so there is real money involved unlike these past fledgling tournaments.

I had some really high hopes for this tournament, but I think it flopped a bit. All these big "promises" of NIL, 16 P5 teams, bigger and better than the NIT (which is becoming a mid-major tournament), etc.

Given that they couldn't lure many P5 teams into this tournament knocked their reputation down a notch. It still has potential, but they're going to need to really nail this with a national audience when late March rolls around.

While not the cream of the crop we probably wanted to see, I still count…

11 teams from major conferences, a mid-major who was first four out of the NCAAs, Tulane finished 19-14, GW 21-12. Two former P5 teams. So this thing is definitely better than the NIT. Sure the opt outs kind of took some umph out of it, but this is now better than the NIT.

It's now better than the NIT because they took from the NIT. But CBC doesn't necessarily mean that it's better than what the NIT "was". Just one of many examples: nearly 40% of the field doesn't even have a winning record.

Time will tell. I had some big optimism that this CBC tournament would be the "start of the end" of NCAA's dominance in secondary tournaments (and it might be). I just think the opportunity CBC had to really kick this off strong in its first year just didn't deliver.

Having teams opt out hurts.   It’s a lot better with West Virginia, Indiana, northwestern, Iowa and Ohio st

Agreed. And unless the CBC can find a way to make it attractive for P5 teams to play, this opt-out trend will likely become commonplace (as it started trending that way around the time of the transfer portal/NIL).

it has been happening in football for awhile, don't want to get hurt and drop some spots in the NFL draft.🙄

Two of these teams don’t actively have head coaches, one has a coach rumored to be heading elsewhere. So I could definitely see teams like that opting out and there’s not much you can do about that.

Increasing the $$ paid out too will draw some of these opt outs back in. $300K split amongst winning team player AND a $1Million NIL Collective donation (or something like this) would probably keep some schools in.

I realize everyone wanting brackets out right away after the selection show, but with all the opt outs and different tournaments out there… it’s been a crap show the past two to three years at times.

I agree. But I also expected a worse lineup so win? As for this tournament. It has a chance if the NCAA tournament doesn't expand. If or when that happens this tournament is toast.

Im fine with them playing but it serves no purpose when there is no young guys needing this for extra opportunity.

I look it at as building culture.  We need to be a basketball program that wants to play basketball no matter what.

If nothing else it seems like this tournament could be pretty fun for the teams.  If they do it right, it could be the equivalent of a bowl game experience.

Someone in the committee room pointed out that Indiana had lost to Nebrasketball 4 times in a row by an average margin of defeat of almost 20 points/game and that ended their at large hopes for this year and next year.

Hey… we’re both 2/9 in NCAA appearances the past 9 years so there’s that.

While I understand that, it’s hard to believe you couldn’t have an assistant keep a collection of guys together for 3 weeks.

$300k isn’t great spread over 13 guys.   But if some guys opt out, it’s a decent pay day for a number of them.   In our case, Brice gets $200k and Juwan gets $100k.   Everyone else gets a return flight home.

Adding in that extra $200K — Probably still isn’t what Brice *should have gotten this year in NIL.
