I'm too lazy to look up old threads.  This has been on my mind since Friday.  Baylor could have been a Nebraska legend.  No one west of 42nd Street in Omaha will recognize him.  He seems happy with his choice. He helped the evil east team reach another Sweet 16. Good job.  I wish him well, though If I ever see him, I won't know who he is.

Baylor Scheierman says Creighton career 'a dream come true' after Sweet 16 loss (wowt.com)

Last year it was Elite 8, and a foul away from the Final Four. He acquitted himself pretty well. Aurora's proud of their own. Tom Kropp will remain #1 in my book. Baylor's a close 2nd. Both are NBA ballers in their own right, they both traveled a different path. I wouldn't have chosen Kearney St. (Kropp) or So. Dak. St./CU (Scheierman) but that's their decision to make and live with, ultimately. I'm certainly not sad that CU didn't attain their N.C. goals. I'll go watch B.S. #55 in the pros, he's an elite passer with Jokic-like vision, yet not a seven-footer. It'll be interesting to see which team drafts him, I think he'd help Phoenix, for instance, since they lack a PG.... to each their own, I can't say I'd blame Baylor for pickin' that eastern Omaha squad since Freddy came off of a 7-win, 7-win, and 10-win seasons in succession. Now, it's over and done with at the college level. Maybe the next "B.S." kid will *want* to play in Lincoln, Nebraska, let's hope so after a 16-win and 23-win seasons back-to-back. GBR Always.

I never should have started this thread. People have the right to make decisions about their lives.  However, when you watch the video, Baylor is happy Mac gave him the chance to come to Creighton, back to Nebraska, Creighton.  He didn't come back to Nebraska and I think he knows it.

It's okay, cip, we don't have to like the decision. I know I didn't -- even told his folks. lol

If anything, I think it shows the importance of showing sustained success when landing highly touted in-state players.

Maybe our recent success of the past 14 months will help us be on the other end of the stick this year.

Yeah, I mentioned that, it's easily the biggest takeaway of a lot of NE dudes going elsewhere that might pause & consider Freddy's proven system more than they ever would have when Hoi-ball was sucking at it early on. B.S. did mention that camaraderie, 'love', and closeness being a key component at CU that hadn't happened as readily at SDSU... that's as important as pure talent, we only need to remember Matty Abdelmassih.... it's not hard to figure how it failed.

That's an interesting combination of players: both are from Aurora, and both played college basketball in Nebraska--but not at the state school (i.e., "The University," as we used to call it back in Tom Kropp's day).

Tom Kropp is among the all-time best Nebraska athletes, but he is relatively unknown.

Kropp is often considered the #1 athlete to ever play in the state of Nebraska. He was drafted by every professional league there was back in the day. He's a personal friend, and a guy who you can shoot the shit with, totally unpretentious, and thoroughly a killer on the court, even in his 50s with bone-on-bone in his knees. We have an annual Alumni Weekend and he'd dominate that until Father Time took over. That dude could shoot it, recall the "Picket Fence" of Jimmy Chitwood from Hoosiers. Then he was head coach and leader at UNK for 25+ years of his college coaching career, much to little or no fanfare. He kept teaching & leading with great aplomb. He's an amazing basketball savant. Aurora loves Tommy, he's a genuine dude, although he was born in G.I.--lol!! 😉

Cool!  Thanks for this information, Auroran.

Tom Kropp and Johnny Rodgers would be contemporaries (Tom born in 1953 and Johnny born in 1951).

It's pertinent to the B.S. #55 story, Forbes magazine wrote a recent story and chose to mention that Scheierman was the 1st player from Aurora to play Div. 1 basketball. Well, yeah, but Tom Kropp played in the freakin' NBA, lol. That deserved at least a tiny mention of one of the greatest to ever do it in the STATE OF NEBRASKA from the same little community of Aurora, Nebraska.

Played quit a few pickup games with Kropp as I was a student at Kearney State in the 80's.  The first time I remember a friend was dividing up teams and he put all the good players on one team and me of course on the other.  I told him I didn't think the teams were fair. He said, "oh they are fair, that's Tom Kropp with you."  We won of course. Guy was an amazing shooter.  He could pull up from deep and bank it in with a soft touch.  For the younger members a bank shot is one that goes off the glass before it goes in the basket. He had that Bird/Magic/Jordan quality that he was great but would also make the players around him better.

Wouldn't recognize him??? He's 6'7" dates a former Husker VB player and is currently living rent free in your head. More Nebraska kids on that team than in Lincoln. Chucky is the one who deserves a little venom not Baylor.

He's from central NE, he's venting a little.... it will be okay Quiet Man. I think Chucky is a bit of a punk for acting like he'd come to Lincoln then change course. Baylor never gave the impression he was 'N' per se. He did say he was coming back 'home'.... to CU when he grew up a Husker fan. A lot of folks didn't appreciate that, I shared that sentiment with the folks of B.S. #55, even; basically told them how I'd never root ('hell no!') for the BLUE, but hope Baylor would do well nonetheless. Heck, I even paid good money to watch him take down UConn.... wish him well, now that college is done & over with. It's likely time to move in, and find the next "B.S." who can become the legend in Lincoln that Husker fans are hoping for, tbh.

Yes,  good points.

When we were signing guys 2 years ago we were a bad team with a coach who might have been fired had he not beaten two NCAA tourney teams on the road to end the season. A lot of guys wouldn't sign here. How fortunate were we that Sam Griesel wanted to play here more than he wanted to potentially score or win?

Timing is everything.  If we were coming off this season when Baylor was transferring, our chances would have been much better.  We were a dumpster fire when Baylor was mulling his options.  I don’t blame him.
