But talent won out tonight. They hit REALLY tough shots in crunch time. We couldn't get them to miss a three, even while we had the lead (I would have liked to see less help on drives when we had the lead, ensuring we didn't give up 3's, and possibly giving up some lay ups, but I'm not criticizing miles).

And we didn't have the talent to finish. Gallegos missed two wide open looks for three (played a great game though, and hit other big shots), Ubel brought us nothing, 6pts, 3 boards, fumbled a bunch of stuff out of bounds, missed a big momentum dunk, etc... Tough game for him.

Man... Tough game, we sure fought hard and made some plays, just not enough (while they were...).

Love this teams fight and bounce back ability. Definitely leading the way for big things for this program.

Nebraska played well enough to be in the game for the entire way. The game's final margin was the largest lead for the Illini. Ubel played his guts out, as did Talley & Gallegos & other few who played. They just ran out of steam. NU needed a couple other guys to step up to pull out an incredible road victory, but it wasn't meant to be tonight.  Would be great to see the Huskers string together a couple of wins for Ubel & Talley during their final week of regular season action.

Rey needs to hit the open ones if we want to win games like this.  Yes, talent won out.  We had a couple bad possessions going down the stretch which hurt us.  Overall we played really well.  Talley has been playing really well as of late.

We actually hit zero shots in crunch time, but hit several shots leading up to that so that crunch time meant something.

Also, three missed layups, a missed dunk and two bad threes by Gallegos and Rivers that never drew iron loom large.

I would have to disagree with that.

So, on what basis would you know if he didn't... I'm kind of tired of people bagging on Ubel, he's trying but he's not succeeding.

I'm not going to judge the effort of any single player.  Ubel has the most difficult assignment game in and game out of any player on the team.

I think it's fine to question effort when they're clearly doggin' it. I haven't seen it from NU.  The game against Wisky was out of hand, but it wasn't due to lack of trying by the team in red... It's very hard to play well every time out when you have zero depth.

I'm not bagging on Ubel as that is a pretty bold statement to say that he played his guts out.  It wasn't his best game but know he still tried hard but wouldn't catagorize his effort as playing his guts out.

It's not bold, in my opinion; I grew tired of all the piling on. Just because the results aren't pleasing doesn't mean the kid isn't trying his best, i.e. playing his guts out.  Ubel has given everything he's got for this program over the years, I think it's time to respect his contributions for the good he's brought to the team.  Ubel & Talley will be playing their final home game in a few days, and they deserve a rousing ovation.

Good to hear.  Sorry to belabor the point, it's just been on my mind for a while.  Those two seniors have meant a lot to NU during this transition period.

All Ubel does is play his guts out - I hope I didn't imply by my comments that he wasn't giving his best effort. He just didn't bring us anything from a scoring/rebounding perspective.

Ubel is one of my favorite players in a long time. He is giving us everything he has. Wish he had another year.

No prob; Really wish Ubel would have been able to redshirt his freshmen season, he'd be incrementally better in his final year as a Husker....

Our bench was outscored 38-0. Any questions?

Sure.  What's your point?

Obviously his point is that we have no depth. If we had some producers that could come off the bench we'd have better chances to win games like the one on Saturday. Get it?

It's really hard to complain about much this year.  Considering our roster situation...id say this staff and the players did as well as anyone could have expected.  Will be great to have some more athletes and depth next year....while eventually we will want more i'd say a nice NIT run next year would be good.  If we can find someone who can bang down low next years team could be pretty dangerous.  Atewe if we land him could fit the bill....but I dont believe we can cound on a incoming freshman.  And by all accounds in speaking with people who have seen practices Pitchford is great at running the floor but his game is to face the basket.  He will not be a traditional type post player.  That's my #1 concern for next year.  The good news is we will have a few guard/forwards who have a knack at grabbing rebounds in Petteway and Shields.

What's the point of making a point that's been made a couple of times a day over the past year.  We're not breaking new ground here.

Can't speak for Handy, but the way I read the post, in the context of people appearing to bag on Ubel, the point seemed to be that it's not like Ubel's getting a whole lot of help.  Nor do we have a lot of alternatives.  I could be wrong, but that's how I read it.
