Still looking for someone who can start at the 3 position and contribute on offense and defense.  Maybe a healthy Krull.

Any other real possibilities on this squad for a split offense / defense substitutions at that wing spot ???

Nebraska has some nice pieces, but almost no depth when any of the top 4 players (Markowski, Potts, White and Shelley) go to the bench. Really too bad that Maly didn’t end up being a Husker…she would be a massive help to this team.

Nebraska also lacks foot speed and length on the defensive side, with the exception of Potts.

Seems like they could be a #8-12 seed in the NCAA tournament if they get some breaks with injuries and close games like this one.

That's where we really miss Allison W. with her speed, athleticism and desire to play defense.  Although not tall I will take Darian White on defense anytime.

Just returned home after a three hour drive in wet, dreary conditions.

My take on the game is that we lost it in the first 5 minutes when time after time CU worked for open looks from three and drained them.  We were in catch-up mode the rest of the game.  The Jays got good looks, we did not.  Creighton had much more ball and player movement resulting in open looks and some easy buckets at the rim.  We stand around on offense too much for my taste and apparently we are not a good three point shooting team.  Plus our guards missed 4 big free throws in the 4th qtr.

-Connie Yori is a huge asset for CU.

-Potts and Petrie worked well together on offense

-Potts sat too long IMO

-Creighton is a veteran, well schooled, physical team. They have to be to make up for lack of size.

-Our guards were getting rebounds

-They flew through our press and got easy shots.

Team battled.  Krull adds some much needed toughness.  Build off this and get a couple wins in St Petersburg.

One additional comment, I was disappointed in the mostly passive crowd.  The team needed the energy from the fans and it was never sustained.  And Jaz is probably glad not to see the Jays again.

They need to give Nissley a shot at the 3. KM and Krull are not the answer. It’s sad, but KM has wasted this opportunity to show what she can do, and it’s time to move on. Krull is too slow, and she is a liability on defense. Coley…I’m not sure what she’s doing…?

We played well enough on offense, but agree we lost this game on the defensive side. As already pointed out too many threes in the first quarter. How many times has Creighton got off to a fast start and we are behind early? Thought Jaz played pretty well considering it sounds like she got no practice in before game day.

I respectfully disagree about Jazz. For as much pub as she is getting, and all the “watch lists” she is on, I feel like we need more from her in big games. 2/11 is not going to cut it. The missed free throws from her and White hurt us too, but I know that probably won’t happen often.

Made it to the game yesterday finally. Hadnt been able to make any of the other games in person.

HOLY FREAKING POTTS!!!!!!!!!!! Give me a couple more tall hard working athletic kids like her. Next year with her, Prince and AM that should be a fun crew together. I agree Potts sat way too long at the end of the game. She should of taken a breather and put right back in. On another note I think she came out in the 2nd half they ran a play for her and she made a 3. Not sure if she made another point after that. They need to do more 2 game with her and AM.

Jazz!!!!! Very disappointing if you ask me. Going to be hard to win any game if she has a game like that ever.

Hake... I get it she can be quick and make some things happen on offense sometimes. But she is such a liability more on Offense and Defense. Her mistakes for some reason agitate me more than others. I think its the dumb mistakes that are easy to tell your self just no.

White.... I love her. She can make things happen. Her 2 missed free throws towards the end of the game hurt.

Coley..  I actually didnt mind her playing yesterday. She is not much for an offensive threat but she can make things happen with rebounds and on defense she has no problem pushing players around. I kind of like her for that part. Frustrate the girls. She reminds me of the girl that went to TCU last year.

AM.... I think she has improved in her 3rd season now. She is grinder. I think she has a lot more stability to go on longer runs and doesnt get so tired so easy. I really do enjoy her.

KM... She didnt impress me but she didnt stand out as bad either. I think she is just missing the confidence still.

Krull is a little bit slower but I do like her as you can see she has the experience. Just not a great defender of the 3 ball.

Nissely.. You can tell she is a freshman but she is not afraid to shoot and play defense. I think she will be used more as the season keeps going.

Need Stewart and MM

Overall I actually really enjoyed watching the team. They just couldnt get over the hump but they never gave up. The girls showed some fight and are not afraid. I think we will upset some of these B1G teams but I also think we could easily lose a game we shouldnt either. I think they will be a fun group and have potential to get a lot better if you ask me. Not much of a mid game shot. Mostly 3s or under the basket type of a team.

The first qtr technical on Coley was a big plus for Creighton.  We had possession in a close game and as a result we lost that, Maly hit two free throws and they maintained possession.  They then took their lead to 9 but we gradually clawed back as we did the rest of the game whenever Creighton made a run.  I wouldn't put too much negative at this point on Jaz and Maddie as both were playing hurt but still gutted it out.  If you noticed both Moriarity and Hake didn't play much in the 2nd half and especially towards the end when the game was on the line.  I still feel good about the team but we need to get everybody healed up.  In my mind the 3 position is still up for grabs.

Ironically, if you look at the box score Bugeater 1 provided, Jazz was a +9 points while on the floor.  The only other Husker with positive points was Krull (+2).  She might not have had a good shooting night, but the team played well when she was on the floor (based on +/- stats).

Observation and we've talked about this before. And yes it's just an opinion.

That game is another example different coaches, approach to player usage. Creighton used the 5 starters, most of the minutes by far, and they scored most of the points by far. And when they did that, their player to player chemistry seemed to work well.

We do the other, almost opposite approach, where we play the whole bench. (I know we have injury issues)  We usually have a different roster on the floor at any given time, through out the game. Just wonder, ultimately,  how productive that is.

Lastly, we're did compete. Defensive lapse's (sp) hurt. Lack of scoring from guards hurt. Like already said we got behind early and couldn't sustain the momentum for very long.  Markowski had maybe her best game for a while. She kept us in the game, most of the game.

Watched replay today. (Mon) Had we shot better as a team, we would have won.

So moving on to next one.

I think there were a few issues with game planning.

1) they are going to come out shooting 3's and they are going to get off to a hot start on us.  If we haven't figured that out by now, we just really aren't capable of planning.

2) if we're going to commit people to full court "D", put some pressure on and make the other team work.  Maybe a trap or two would be good

3)  you have deeper bench and they're in big foul trouble..... do I really need to explain what to do in this situation

Enough with the issues.  Our women really did play great.  When our 3's were failing to find homes, I really did expect to be blown out.  Instead we played really well.  Well enough to win.  Seriously if we'd have sunk our free throws, we'd of won.  We do have an NCAA caliber team.  I plan to and hope everyone else is planning to enjoy them.

Every year, Creighton doesn’t beat us with superior athletes, they beat us with better coaching, better team chemistry.

They also had 5 healthy seniors that for the most part have played together for years.  We had 8 healthy players that haven't played together much including 3 freshmen.  We just all need to relax.  We will be OK.

Yes, I did notice that, and you’re right we are better with her on the floor. I just meant she will have to be more productive for us to win, which I 100% believe she will be. I doubt we see another game like that from her. I think we will be better because of that game. It exposed some areas that need some work.

We need to figure out how to not take your top scorers off the court at the same time. Creighton went on bigger runs when Markowski, Potts and Shelley are off the court at the SAME time.

Simple

Don't wholesale make 3-4 substitutions all the time. Rotate in max 2 at a time.  Replace those first subs.. out first.

Creighton subbed maybe one at a time. Their best 5 played about 85-90% of the minutes. That's what most of the better teams do.
