Was surprised that Aron Uhlis was announced and came out w the team. Guess they are taking a wait and see approach w him?

He's been in practice/scrimmage videos too... Pretty perplexed. His case seems pretty cut and dry.

Heck, the NCAA still hasn't ruled on our tight ends transfer eligibility, and now he has been arrested twice...we may hear about Aron's punishment about mid-May.

Ulis is only a Junior.  It is possible he could be suspended all of this year, but still be eligible next year, which could be important since Boogie will be graduating.  Plus, Ulis is significant asset to have on the scout team to play against the starters.  Fred said he is a good kid and has been a joy to coach so far.  Hard to find any reason to dismiss him at this time.

I was under the impression this penalty included a loss of a year of eligibility.

Uhlis wasn't even very good at Iowa. Doesn't seem like a case where we go the extra mile and push hard to keep him given the circumstances IMO.

I don’t think we are going all in on his case. Guessing they like the kid and will go with whatever penalty is handed down. If it is 6 moths or probably a year we have, at worst, quality depth at the PG spot when he comes back next year. This is assuming he is doing the right things, coaches like him, and he is a good teammate

This is really a no lose situation for NU. If the penalty is significant no one would care if we cut him, but while he is here he provides a quality scout team player for the regular rotation to go against. If he's around next year he would have a head start learning the culture and will provide quality depth at PG. Plus, it's impossible to keep everyone happy with playing time and he one guy you won't have to worry about that with.

I think we're looking at anywhere from half a season to an end to his career.

I think the NCAA could factor in that he was young and stupid when he did this.

The question that might tip the scales is whether he gambled on his own team, especially if he picked them to lose.

To me, the lone negative, is that he occupies a scholarship.  Could we use that elsewhere.  Of course that seems dependant upon the severity of punishment.   Certainly if it is a lifetime ban, I would suggest he loses his eligibility and scholarship.

There's no issue with occupying a roster spot in 2023-24 for Ahron Ulis, unless he's really dropping the ball this fall. If he provides great effort, he will help strengthen the team. And I bet he's walking the talk for Hoiberg & Co. There is no way he's taking the under when it comes to Nebraska, he's all 'N' I would imagine. He burned bridges with Iowa, so maybe he is willing to provide intell on their program that's helpful to NU winning. I can not see a negative this season... perhaps only to the proverbial pocketbook.

I would imagine that one aspect of the conversation we're having with the NCAA is if Ulis is indeed ruled ineligible for the season that we could potentially get a waiver to the scholarship limit so we could perhaps bring someone in at semester break?

I've been to this event many times but missed this year.  They really need to change the agenda of activities if they want fans to come to it.  Just watching the men run drills is not very exciting.  As much as I hate missing anything with NU basketball, I must say, I don't mind missing this event.  I just leave bored every time.

Say what you will about Coach Miles, but he does have a feel for marketing and fan engagement and honestly that's half the battle at Nebraska.  Danny was the same way.

Speaking from the perspective of someone who used to enjoy going to watch Doc Sadler run basketball practices, I was OK with the format.

I think they're trying to avoid the theatrics of an All-Star game kind of environment.

It might have helped to have ongoing commentary piped into the arena of Kent talking to Fred or one of the assistants about the finer details of each drill and what they've been seeing from the players during regular practices and so forth.

But drills instead of a dunk-fest with no defense?

Yeah, I'm actually OK with that.

I guess it is a matter of perspective and what trips your trigger.  My one son hated it.  Thought it failed to show what we were going to be about.  I on the other hand enjoyed it.  Thought it showed the teams athleticism and skills, and also showed discipline and precision; which were two things missing from a few of Fred's teams.

So yeah, I was on the geeked side of the spectrum.

100% agree. Call me a grumpy ol curmudgeon but I'd much rather watch this format than watch Cam Mack shoot arrows into the crowd, Walter Pitchford try to be a point guard and Leslee Smith think he's a three point specialist. This was boring by design. We've done the all-star thing in the past and it just made you cringe.
