Cip, Moe, Danny and Doc all seemed to recruit Nebraska talent pretty well.  We lost our share, but typically the effort was there.  Tim was up against it as the Omaha coaches gravitated towards Creighton, or so it seemed.  The same problem seems to exist with Fred.  Creighton now has deeper roots into Omaha making it more difficult to pluck individual talent that we may want.

That said, Tim was starting to break the ice.  I had heard Chucky was a lean our direction before the coaching change and of course the Northstar kid was locked in here before that change.

I hate to bring this back around to Tim, buuuuuut it did seem like Tim started figuring it out towards the end.

2018 - Brady Heiman

2019 - Akol Arop

2020 - Donovan Williams

2021 - Chucky Hepburn

He got 2 of the better in-state players to commit and seems like he had a real shot at 2 others. With as much trouble as Nebraska has had at finding people to stay in the program, seems like there's a definite value in finding a local kid every year who will come in and provide some continuity year after year even if they aren't going to be an immediate starter.

Accurate.

But to me, homegrown talent is all about building a long-term/sustainable pipeline.

You can succeed by taking the Kentucky model and you can succeed by taking the Wisconsin model. As far as I can tell right now, you can't succeed by taking the Matt Abdelmassih model.

But when you arent successful you look at the instate guys having success elsewhere so Mike J's tweet is moot IMO.

What particular good will for a guy who could use some good will comes from telling the people who read the local paper that it doesn't matter if you get local kids when anyone know that this does matter to many locals.

This was probably the nail in the coffin for abdelmassih for me. His message might've not been completely incorrect (landing out of state kids primarily), but the way it's being delivered is "my shit doesn't stink" despite having the worst 3 year stretch in husker bball history whole you spearheaded recruiting. Lack of self awareness.

I know Nate has been out recruiting at games, has Matt?

And what exactly is the Matt Abdelmassih model?

To identify highly "ranked" talent, build relationships, hope they commit now or in the few years when they xfer, then hope somewhi Fred can mold and develop them to fit in the system.

Oregon

2020

They have had success and of course with that comes the players.  You forgot about Mitchell. A kid whose dad played here...

He was listed as being from Kansas, IIRC.  I just went through the top players from Nebraska.

Isn't that pretty much everyone's model to attract top talent and develop a relationship with them in hopes they commit either now or when they transfer and then mold them into your system?
