Post-Miles Press Conference

Asked about when/how he made a decision: Moos said something about how he liked how our team was out of the gate. But noted Copeland's injury. Thought we lost the team.

Talked to 1-3 candidates. Talked to Hoiberg to gauge interest.

 

7-14 days to find/announce the next coach.

 

"I haven't had any deep dish pizza in Chicago."

#1 goal: To win a Big Ten conference championship in all of our sports. If you do that you will be just fine in the postseason. Should be in the upper half of all of our sports.

Financial commitment: "We can be competitive."

Marc Boehm has done a great job to represent Moos. Marc kept Moos abreast of the program.

Doesn't sound like a Hoiberg deal is close at all.

Always was the plan to wait until the end of the season.

 

Moos hasn't spoken to the team yet. He has talked to ONE of the assistants.

 

Marc has talked to the team.

On trying to keep players: "Keep them in class...This generation is a little short on patience...calm down...tends to work out for the best."

"I felt as close to mens basketball as I have to any of the programs."

 

"I don't go to practice and I don't go to the locker rooms. I hire coaches to take care of those things. At the end of the year we talk about it."

Moos: "What would that accomplish?  The team was rallying and the assistants were coaching hard." in relation to why he didn't consider letting Tim go after Big 10 Tournament.

 

Maybe... because... they were still coaching for their jobs?  Was he still planning on keeping Tim at all?

How long for Nebraska basketball to "get back": "It can happen faster in basketball because of the numbers... outhouse to penthouse in a year at some programs... I've been a part of programs where it has happened... football would take longer because of how many people are on the roster."

 

Right on top of the 2020 recruits.

His network: from 1-40 years of industry experience. A lot of them from basketball.

Prefers the 4-year athlete. If we're going to compete, we have to look at the transfer situation to compete.

After watching the press conference, I'm not as convinced Hoiberg is his man.   Just my opinion....

I get the vibe that Moos was either being smug and it's more than done with Hoiberg, or trying to not let us get our hopes up in case something falls through, or Hoiberg really isn't the guy.

I’m sure this has been said but that       “7-14 days” timeframe given by Moos could potentially be giving Hoiberg enough time to watch his son through the Final Four, if MSU were to get that far and Hoiberg is the guy.

Yes, entirely possible.  He didn't duck the question on whether he's talked to Hoiberg.  Just kind of strange that he said he's like a great recruiter.  I know that Fred can hire a staff of great recruiters.  And he prefers the 4 year player, and we all know Fred's a transfer guy.  I realize Moos did say that he knows it's a different world right now and transfer are a part of he deal.

 

I'm probably reading way too much into some of his statements.

"7-14 days" was also mentioned right after stating that it is March Madness season.
