I mentioned his name in a tweet about guards because he is a scholarship one on our team.

Gotcha. Wasnt sure if he was being mentioned bc of something positive you had heard about him.

Austin Allen
#15 Class of 2017 PF C
Aurora High School
Aurora, NE

He made a living from short corner vs. zones. And Aurora would have a state title if the rest of the team could have been convinced to pass him the ball a little more often.

Harris, Heiman and Nana are really the only ones I've heard the coaches mention. I wouldn't bank too much on Chan, Borchardt or Davis to contribute too much.

This isn't quite what I had in mind when I said I didn't have any expectations for Chan...

While Im concerned with this-- I really like Glynn defensively, I think he will create chaos on young guards. I am honestly more concerned with our rebounding. Watson and Allen dont rebound much for guards- Palmer/Roby/Cope are going to have to rebound like crazy for this team to reach its potential

I agree with this but not worried about getting posted up. How many teams have big guards who like to post up? If they do they better have posts who can shoot from the outside or we will just double. Rebounding and getting hands in faces on the 3 point line I am concerned about but I will take the Offense any day if he shoots like I think he will.

Heres the best lineup we will see all season:

- Justin Costello

- Johnny Trueblood

- Thor Thorbjarnarson

- Dedoch Chan

- Brady Hieman

I call it our "Up 20 points with 3 minutes to go" line up and i hope to see it plenty.

This post didn't age well.

That's a lineup you're never gonna see.

Were thin on bodies now. Gotta think they add another walk on. Maybe we can strike another Tanner Borchardt like player ?

Very small margin for error on the injury front. However, I think even with Dedoch, we had a very small margin for error. One Dedoch more or less isn't going to change that, unfortunately.

I am not convinced that Dedoch was option 12 or 13 on this team.  So I don't know whether depth was affected.  Maybe we can convince Coach Frost to let one of his 6'7" linemen to be a backup big for us this season.

Scroll up to look at the Austin Allen highlights.

Nana is going to have to give us some really good minutes. And rebound his ass off

Neither of which were accomplished last season.  But hey, he certainly appears to be improved from last year, and if he understands his role and embraces it, he has the skills to meet or exceed expectations.

The football roster on Huskers.com lists him at 6'8" and 245#.  If nothing else, he can dunk.

And if we get in foul trouble and need a big body with 5 fouls to give, he has one.

The person who could possibly make this happen has a history with both the basketball and football program...Matt played both sports and did so fairly effectively.  Will it happen, probably not.  But he would be a solid addition.  The issues are obvious  * could he be injured - yes, but you can be injured walking across campus * could it stifle his improvement as a football player - yes, he is still growing into his position and culture of the football program * could his academics suffer - yes, playing two sports with all the travel and on court time will certainly create study or social issues * would the basketball team accept him at this point - don't know...at the very least he would be an asset at practices.

Chances of this happening is slim and none and slim may have already left town.  But it is fun to think about.

On  the bright side, we wouldn't have to wait until after the bowl game for him to join the hoops program.  ?

OK, admittedly, that might not be much of a bright side.  Guess it depends on whether you're sitting in Memorial Stadium or PBA.

So Tanner is ahead of Brady. That seems clear. But is Brady still expected to play on a nightly basis? Or is he trending more towards how Tanner was used last year (20 games, 6ish minutes a game)

Ideally would like to get 15-18 minutes a game Tanner and/or Brady.

Man, I don't know Khoock.  I am thinking that we will see the two of them playing 20 to 25 minutes early on.  We can't have the five starters averaging 34 minutes a game from the beginning.  But I guess we shall soon find out.

Heres my take on the depth chart going in to the exhibition game tomorrow:

PG: Glynn Watson -> Amir Harris -> Thomas Allen

SG: Thomas Allen -> Amir Harris -> Thor Thorbjarnarson

GF: James Palmer -> Nana Akenten -> Thor Thorbjarnarson

F: Isaac Copeland -> Isaiah Roby -> Nana Akenten

C : Isaiah Roby -> Tanner Borchardt -> Brady Hieman
