Well, folks, it's getting to be that time of year again.  Nights are getting cooler (finally), football season is well underway, soon the leaves will be turning, and 49r is starting the KenPom Rankings Thread.

For anyone interested in viewing last year's thread, you can click here.

We're going to start off this year as always with the upcoming schedule and each team's final rankings from last season, and there is no doubt #98 is not anywhere near where your Huskers are gonna be starting off in the initial KenPom Rankings due around the end of the month.

If I were a betting man, I would say we'll probably be lucky to start off in the top 150 this year, once again putting us squarely in the bottom four of the B1G.  The good news is the guys will have plenty of opportunities early on in the season to make quick jumps up the KenPom rankings with some wins.

So without further ado, here we go!  Hope everyone enjoys!

Non con:

312. Sacramento St.

29. Dayton

(11. UCLA or 194. Portland)

(28. Texas A&M, 188. Cal St. Northridge, 68. New Mexico, 48. Virginia Tech)

62. @ Clemson

293. South Dakota

23. Creighton

3. at Kansas

246. Gardner-Webb

271. Southern

For RPI purposes, that Dayton game becomes huge and nobody except a few of us diehards back here will be watching. Win it and you play a couple more games that are RPI boosters. Lose it and you run the risk of playing two teams with RPI's below 150, which just doesn't help things.

Creighton #23 (for the non conference schedule)

Our Non-Conference schedule is tough!

Our Non-Conference schedule is tough!

Ah, my bad. Fixed.

But yeah, it's tough. I like it though. I really think that Dayton game is stealable, though. That's gonna be a dead, sleepy atmosphere. Nobody's gonna be in the building, nobody's gonna be watching on TV. That's a recipe for an upset. If NU doesn't get lost in the deadness of the empty building, I think they could steal a big win.

Our best chance at getting 2 wins in Anaheim most likely depend on losing to Dayton, though.  If we beat them, it would be more likely we finish 1-2.

IMO.

As simplistic as it sounds that sayton game could define/jumpstart our season. 2-1 out there with a win over dayton abd people start watching. And not only in nebraska.

No shame losing at kansas or even at clemson. Take 2 of three and they're over decent rpi teams that early?

With this many underclassmen?

To me that's the goal. ... or we could try and win all three. I'm good with that.

Is sayton referring to Creighton? Should be spelled Satan?

You're gonna play at least 1 rpi killer if you do that. I'd rather get the win over Dayton and take my swings at the bigger boys than lose the first game and have easier games.

No doubt.  1-2 with high RPI games may very well be better in the end than 2-1 with a Dayton loss and a couple +100 RPI wins.  I'm just saying if you wanna win 2 in Anaheim, beating Dayton will probably make that goal harder.  All I'm saying.

Dayton is the perfect non-con opponent, IMO.  We'll be slight underdogs with a shot at a big time win, and a loss doesn't hurt us.  Honestly, that's where Creighton is now that they aren't playing in a high school conference anymore.  I'm thrilled we have them on the schedule every year.  They're another one in that range.

Nope. According to some, Creighton will beat us by 30 this year. They are just by far and wide the superior team and we have absolutely no chance. Not even at home.
