We have 1-2 spots to fill and half of the top150 have yet to sign so it's not like we're in dire straits here but overall I think you're seeing some of the issues with us not winning lately. We need our core to put it together this year.

Yep....you can sell vision in the first couple of years....when you get to year 5...you need some substance

I agree here. It's time to win. We have substance with these last 2 classes but you need to show progress on the court in order to show some of these recruits that we are indeed going somewhere and that its okay to join the team. Problem is, the pieces we have may just be set up to win, but not quite ready to do it at a high success rate. Hopefully we see significant progress this year but there's many who act like Miles is at the end of his leash and that this season has to be it. The majority of the pieces in place are either sophomores or freshman.

It's mostly on the other site, but many seem to be fed up with Miles and think that our recruiting is a joke. I happen to think that he's doing just fine and that this staff is identifying talent well and loading the roster about as best as can be hoped for. I don't see any shame in losing out on a recruit when they have 18-20 offers including UNC and Georgetown type teams. I guess we could go back to having our best recruits be Ryan Anderson/Brandon Richardson type guys but I don't really see the point.

Patiently waiting some on-court success but willing to be patient.

By 'substance' I think he means as in 'results.'

Recruiting high-caliber players is most-definitely "results" . . . but I know you mean win-loss results.

Nonetheless, I've seen great progress for Nebrasketball under the current regime.

Whoever wants to wallow in dread and gloom -- have at it.  After all, that's the natural state of an anonymous board like this.

But I have been . . . and am going to continue . . . enjoying the ride on the upward trajectory that is Nebrasketball..

The bolded portion to me is the absolute indication of just how ignorant those people tend to be.  Those other sites are disgusting.  It's no wonder fans of other teams bag on Husker fans for being ignorant about hoops.

But yeah, it's getting down to nut cuttin' time for sure.  We've got enough talent to win, question is are they mature enough as mostly Freshmen and Sophomores to get it done?

I think you can point to recruiting high-caliber players as 'results' in years 1, 2, 3 or even 4, when you are building your program.   At year 5....results has to be on the floor.

And recruiting wise the last 2 classes have certainly been our best and a step forward....but if we don't win this year....after the last two....it becomes very fair to ask if progress is legitimately being made.

The last two recruiting classes are darn-good substance -- not merely "some substance.".

In the context of recruiting though who we're recruiting is going to be secondary to what we're doing on the court.

I agree if we're talking fandom.

i think it's tough to sell playing time when you have 1 senior on the roster.

we only need to fill 1-2 spots so we can afford to be patient.

This staff really needs a solid year as its becoming evident that the recent struggles is starting to take a toll on the recruiting trail.

Not sure I can agree. Let this cycle play out. This year's sophomores was a highly talented group. It was followed up by this year's class which were all top-150 guys. How is that "taking a toll"?

Miles was not shy in stating that we probably don't land guys like Morrow and Watson if it was not for that tournament run.  That gave us some pretty good momentum in the recruiting world.  Likewise, the past two years probably have not helped us out much on the recruiting trail.  I think we are starting to see some of that creep up on the recruiting trail.  That's why I say this year is crucial to show some promise assuming Miles is here next year and beyond.  Or else, I think this staff is going to find it more and more difficult to land the prospects high on their board.

Well for everyone's sake, let's hope Gill and Roby are 100% by the start of the season then. If we are healthy, we will win more games than last year and surprise a lot of people.

I think he means this go round with the 2017 class.   We have Nana who is a nice piece but we have seemingly swung and missed with all of our Plan A &  B guys.

Correct, we either missed or did not get much interest from our top guys.  I have no doubt Nana was high on our board, but...his offer list is not great.  Time will tell if the staff hit or missed on him.  Hopefully, we really only need to fill 1-2 spots(minimal attrition) this year....if so, we should be able to plug the holes with JUCO's or the transfer market.

I think the problem could be that alot of these top level kids want to go places that have a record of getting kids in 2 the nba

This class isn't as doomed as we might think once we remember that we have Palmer. Palmer and Nana will be very productive 2-3's for us and we just really need to focus our spring recruiting efforts on a ball handler and big man. It will be fine

Great post, I forget to include him when thinking about next year! And I could see Nana climbing into the top 150.
