hhcmatt Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/starting-five-five-star-trae-young-sets-decision-date Nice little write up here on Nana who seems to be a lock for Top 150 at the end of the year. It would seem ball handling/creating his own shot is what is holding him back from being ranked higher. KearneyMan and brfrad 1 1 Quote
Swan88 Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 Here is the Nana portion of that article: 4. NEBRASKA MAY HAVE STOLEN ONE IN AKENTEN Nana Akenten Shooting guard Bolingbrook Bolingbrook, IL RR: N/A Ht: 6'6" Wt: 195 lbs Class: 2017 - POSITION - NATIONAL - STATE Commitment status: SIGNED LOI Nebraska When we updated the 2017 Rivals150 in January, Nebraska-bound wing Nana Akenten was very close to making the cut. After watching him again over the weekend at the Bank of O'Fallon Shootout, the 6-foot-6 senior has made another strong case for inclusion when we finalize 2017 rankings in April. In a matchup of future Big Ten wings, Akenten went for 31 points and 15 rebounds and helped Bolingbrook (Ill.) High take out Belleville (Ill.) East and their Illinois-bound senior Javon Pickett, 85-70. Pickett had a strong game of his own going for 30 points, six rebounds and seven assists. But, he also needed 27 shots to get there and had to carry more of the load than Akenten. As for Akenten, he shot the ball very well from deep. Was efficient in how he scored and showed off a Big Ten body and athleticism. Exactly how well he creates shots off the dribble at the Big Ten level is up for debate at this point. However, his size, ability to shoot, live body and potential as a rebounder and defender on the next level suggest that the Huskers may have stolen one. thattimeofyear 1 Quote
hhcmatt Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 Nana Akenten Bolingbrook HSBolingbrook, IL 6'6" / 180 lbs SF RANKNR COMMITTED It was a very good showing for Nana Akenten. A big time athlete, Akenten is also someone who can knock in shots. Akenten hit several threes, played good defense, rebounded down low, and overall showed a lot of ability. Right now he needs to continue to improve off the dribble, but he has potential as a three and D guy in the Big Ten. With his size and athleticism he is a tough matchup for most defenders, and Akenten proved how far his game has come with an impressive 30+ point performance in a winning effort. http://www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1752895-bank-of-o-fallon-top-performers?s=169 Quote

The next 4 years will be an interesting time for my grandchildren and me as my wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were all known as nanas. My grandchildren will certainly have fun rooting for their Nana. Now, if we could just get a recruit named Bumpa, we would be set. Silverbacked1 and AuroranHusker 2 Quote

MandRHusker Posted February 21, 2017 Report Posted February 21, 2017 What I am interested to see from Nana is his handles and ability to drive to the hoop. Ever since I read an analysis from a Rivals basketball expert that said Nana did not have the handles to play SG in the B1G, I've had visions of another AWIII. Not that another AWIII would be bad, especially if he was team oriented versus me oriented, but I would love to see Nana come in with the ability to play wing & SG. mwm89 and AuroranHusker 2 Quote

I think I read recently that Nana has been working on his handles. I believe Akenten will play a lot next year as Tai moves on & Anton might not be 100% once again... If he doesn't develop the handles he probably brings "not being a defensive liability" to the table. ShortDust and bobcat402 2 Quote

AuroranHusker Posted March 10, 2017 Author Report Posted March 10, 2017 NANA AKENTEN Senior F, 6-6, Bolingbrook Nebraska recruit. Athletic wing with a terrific three-point shot. Started hot to help ignite the Raiders’ season-opening 20-game win streak. Averaged 16 points, six rebounds and shot 55 percent from the field. Hinsdale Central Holiday Tournament MVP. Quote
uneblinstu Posted March 10, 2017 Report Posted March 10, 2017 How do those numbers compare to the high school shooting stats of the guys currently on the roster? Quote

His percentages are really good. His points per game is comparable to Glynn, maybe a bit better. Not as good as Roby's season averages but Roby was a big fish in a small pond whereas Nana is the best player on the best team in the state. Where Nana excels is his 3-point shooting stats. His percentages are cray cray. Quote
uneblinstu Posted March 10, 2017 Report Posted March 10, 2017 Fuller put up impressive numbers his senior year and was supposed to be a shooter, too. I can't find his percentages, though... Quote
