Ulis is only a Junior. It is possible he could be suspended all of this year, but still be eligible next year, which could be important since Boogie will be graduating. Plus, Ulis is significant asset to have on the scout team to play against the starters. Fred said he is a good kid and has been a joy to coach so far. Hard to find any reason to dismiss him at this time.6 points -

This is a really good point. A REALLY GOOD POINT. In practically all the years of Hoiberg, we've gotten hammered on the boards. You look over on the ribbon boards around the arena halfway through most conference games and we'd be routinely down 10 rebounds to the opposing team. At home. Those 10 boards equate to 10 extra possessions where they have a chance to score. Figure every extra possession from every extra rebound is about an extra point give or take. So, of the guys we picked up in the portal ... Rienk Mast was the #2 overall leading rebounder in the Missouri Valley Conference last year at 8.0 per game. Josiah Allick was the #2 overall leading rebounder in the Mountain West Conference last year at 7.3 per game. Brice Williams was the #15 overall leading rebounder in Conference USA last year at 5.3 per game. Jarron Coleman, even as a PG, was the #20 overall leading rebounder in the MAC last year at 4.9 per game. So, the transfers we've brought in are decent to very good rebounders for their positions. And winning the rebounding battle will probably move the needle as much as anything in our win/loss record year over year. In conference games last year, we won the game EVERY TIME we won the boards. And 12 out of the 16 games where we lost the battle of the boards, we also lost the game. And in the 4 games we won despite being outrebounded, we were only outrebounded by 1, 2, 3 and 5 boards each. So, it seems safe to say this year, if we're holding our own on the boards, the dividends should be obvious.3 points -
Markowski and Jazz named to preseason team. https://bigten.org/news/2023/9/30/general-iowa-and-caitlin-clark-lead-big-ten-preseason-womens-basketball-honors.aspx (Nebraska and Ohio state only team to have 2 players on teams.)1 point

And don't forget, we get back a healthy Gary. His offensive rebounding helped us squeak by a victory against Minnesota. We seemed to have more a want to last year in regards to rebounding. I think that will carry over, also.1 point -

Without even looking at it I bet he hated Val's pizza. I love Valentino's, but that's not his style of pizza at all. Not even remotely.1 point -

It looks like the better teams in the league have more games on Peacock. I assume they are getting those teams' buy games instead of them going to BTN+.1 point -

Heck, the NCAA still hasn't ruled on our tight ends transfer eligibility, and now he has been arrested twice...we may hear about Aron's punishment about mid-May.1 point -

Robin Washut mentioned something last week that surprised me. If it's been mentioned here before, I apologize. Age-wise, the Huskers have the oldest roster in the B1G. We've seldom had that happen.1 point -

One thing I'm going to say about this roster that I have rarely ever been able to see from a Nebrasketball team - they look strong. Kudos to our S&C staff on the guys who've been here a while, and Kudos to Fred and Co. for identifying older, physically mature guys in the transfer portal to bring in. I've felt, many years, one of our biggest issues was we looked thin, physically immature to our competitors, and broke down towards the end of the season.1 point -

They look like a tournament team. Crazy depth, and diverse enough to create matchup problems with just about anyone. Diop would be wise to learn how to play like Gary. If he learns to be a versatile defender and energy guy, yikes. Mikki Moore was the last big who could jump like that, but I’ve literally never seen a big at Nebraska RUN like that. I’m far and out most excited for Eli. Honestly, if I hadn’t been familiar with the roster, I’d think he was the guy we were building around. I didn’t realize how explosive he was athletically. Josiah, Eli, and Diop are all newcomers, and they are also the three most athletic players on the roster. And remember Gary is a freak of nature in his own right. Holy crap.1 point -
Going into last year vs. going into this year: 3-point shooting
Handy Johnson reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
On the high end in the Big Ten last year, you had PSU attempting about 27 threes per game. We were middle-of-the-pack at about 20 1/2 three attempts per game. Keisei accounted for fully 1/4 of our 3-point attempts last year. That's a lot. Rather than him taking more shots, I'd rather see some more guys step up and be more accurate. PSU had 4 guys with at least 118 trey attempts and each was over 38% from deep. They were far and away the best in the league and that's probably too much to hope for. I'd be satisfied if we had four guys with at least 75 attempts and each at .375 or better. Last year, we only had 1 guy who would meet those criteria.1 point -
USC & UCLA TO JOIN BIG TEN (beginning 2024)!
Handy Johnson reacted to jayschool for a topic
The bloated Big Ten then could make all the traditionalists happy by creating two divisions: one consisting of the pre-1990 schools and one consisting of the newcomers (PSU, Rutgers, Maryland and UNC in the east; Nebraska and ND in the Midwest; and USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington in the west). In basketball and other Olympic sports, play a round-robin in your division with a couple of crossover games. Top 4-6 in each division qualify for post-season conference tournament. Further, with such a national schedule, Nebraska in all sports could reduce travel by scheduling almost all of its non-conference contests with schools within driving or short flying distance: UNO, Creighton, ISU, UNI, Kansas, KSU, Wichita, Colorado, CSU, Air Force, UMKC, Mizzou, Drake, SDSU, USD, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Tulsa to name several.1 point -
