tcp, Several years ago, you launched into me on here in a way that seemed to me to have been disproportionate and unwarranted. From what you've described above, though, you were almost certainly going through a very tough period in your life at the time. It seems highly likely you had no patience to spare. Of course, I couldn't have know that then. And you no doubt didn't know that, at that particular moment, I felt like I was getting attacked from multiple different directions nearly simultaneously. Death by a thousand cuts, as it were. So, I probably reacted differently to you than I otherwise might have. When you lashed out at me, I probably internalized it too much. I reached out; you didn't reply. So, I put you on ignore for awhile. Maybe you knew that; maybe you didn't. It just occurs to me, when we interact with people, not just on here but in life in general, we see the person we're interacting with in a snapshot at a moment in time. That's OUR perspective. However, from the vantage point of the person in the frame of that snapshot, that moment falls within a much larger context of things going on in their lives. Things we may have no idea are going on. They may be dealing with trials and tribulations far greater than we realize. It's easy for us to judge. It's harder for us to understand. There are things that we don't know about the person we're indignantly launching at in the heat of the moment. And five, maybe six years later, we find out the things they were dealing with at the time we scrapped with them were much larger than we could have imagined. In addition to learning about your story of perseverance in the face of hardship, I hope I also develop the virtues of patience and tolerance. I'm aware I'm not the most tolerant and patient person on this board. I'm aware I tend to not "suffer fools gladly." But my definition of "fools" probably casts a broader net than it should most of the time. My skin may occasionally be too thin. My tolerance level too low. tcp, I regret seeing our difference more than our similarities over the last however many years. I sincerely wish you well. I hope you're around to see our first Husker NCAA tourney win. And, from the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry for what you're going through. May your burdens ease. May your days be filled with abundant joy in spite of the burdens you carry. May friendships sustain you. Be as well as your circumstances allow. Norm4 points -

It could simply be a NIL comparison for some guys but all schools offer NIL just like all schools offer facilities or conference prestige or geographic location or style of play or brand afflation or whatever. I suppose that NIL is more a factor for this height of player because they're aren't nearly as many. At the end of the day it's relationship with the coaching staff and fit. Money is nice but most guys want to go into a situation where they feel comfortable/set up to succeed. I wouldn't say I've talked to a ton of recruits but the ones I have it's almost always about the assistant recruiting them.2 points -

The reason is often the relationship a recruit has with the coaching staff, or a specific coach on the coaching staff. Maybe Burns is tight with Coach Howard, I don't know. Every year Nebraska gets commits from players who had offers from more prestigious basketball schools who could probably also offer more money. This wouldn't be the first time.2 points -
These players are not charity organizations. This isn't Make A Wish. There has to be a compelling reason for them to want to go to Nebraska other than "if on the off chance that something that has never happened before in the history of the world happens, you can be part of it". That reason is generally $$$ and almost completely in the form of payments from donors to players directly. I do not see any reason to believe that there is the desire amongst our big money donors to use their money on anything other than football (and, for a subset of these donors, Creighton basketball). This is why we are where we are and will likely stay there barring unforeseen and unprecedented changes. It is also why the Jaysker phenomenon is just so damaging to our sports programs outside of football. I hate it, but it is what it is and that's just the reality of the situation. So, be angry at me for not being pollyanna about our recruiting prospects, but honestly it's not going to change the reality of what's going on in the state of Nebraska as it relates to college sports. But hey, if on the off chance we are able to beat out a school like Ohio State or Xavier, or hell, even Creighton for a player I'll be the first one to accept and graciously eat any crow any of y'all are willing to serve up to me.2 points

Would you rather be a part of a schools first NCAA tourney win or their 18th? You can look at the positive side every once in a while for fun.2 points -

HI guys, I wanted to say thanks to all of you who generousklly helped my partner and I get at least one of us to what's turning out to be a more important opportunity than we ewere originally led to believe. As some of you know, I work for a patient's rights organization called P3 Alliance (where you clicked on our link!) and I'm in charge of policy development and strategy. My disability has degenerated significantly this past year, so I'm down pretty much to my last campaign. In any event, we have managed to get some meetings scheduled with our own Senator, Jim Lankford, and a few of his colleagues to talk about the effects of the VA Opioid Safety Initiative and changes that everyone wants made to that policy now that we know too many vets have died as a result of "cutting off the spigot" 6-7 years ago. I was almost one of them myself, and I lost literally everything to the opioid war--home, property, my cars, you name it. With the recent release of Netflix's "Painkiller" film, another movie relying on old and now discredited research more than 5 years old in their script, our allies decided that there needed to be more legislative action taken to protect our community from the inevitable public backlash that follows these types of movies (I estimate OUR movie will be made in about 3-4 years, when most of us are dead!). In any event, those of you who donated have made it possible for our voices to be heard at the federal level in a more efffective setting than a public hearing. On behalf of chronic pain patients, I can't thank you enough. After all, one of these days, God forbid, it may be you in our shoes, and you're going to hope then that we prevailed now. Thanks for the assistance, and thank you Matt for allowing Cip to do this and for me it's back to hoops. GO BIG RED!!! tom2 points

How much of it we see, and how much they can elevate past that, is unknown, but I am drinking the Kool-Aid that last year was a small misstep on the road to something greater. This is Shelley’s last year, but Amy Williams has built a roster that has plenty of bright spots moving forward. More importantly, this is also a team that can — and should — be good enough right now to get to and win in the NCAA Tournament."1 point -

Then how’d we get anyone? Other good programs wanted Boogie, Reink, Williams and many other. We all get how bad we have been and understand pessimism. Just never understand pissing on every thread other people are trying to stay positive about.1 point -

Jimmy's unsubstantiated theory of the day: In my home computer investigation of the "Hiroo" mystery I came up with a possible translation discrepancy since I find no mention of the name Hiroo in Tominaga's previous information. Hiroo Tominaga was a maintenance foreman involved in a famous 1985 crash of a Japanese airline Boeing 747 in which over 500 people lost their lives. He committed suicide after the cause of the crash was attributed to the poor maintenance. Perhaps the Japanese/English translation added the Hiroo when the name Tominaga was entered. (Just a possible theory unless he has an unreported middle name).1 point
