OT: Doc Sadler introduced as head coach at Southern Miss
Dean Smith and 3 others reacted to HB for a topic
That might just be the worst post in the history of this board. Callahan had disdain for Nebraska and Nebraskans, and you praise him. He refused to even wear anything with Husker colors his last 2 months. He made more than Doc, and at the end just wanted to show off his offense no matter how bad we got beat. His own ego ruled as he swirled down the drain. Doc was completely opposite--competed like crazy and kept trying to the bitter end. I agreed with Dr. Tom's decision to make a change at that point, but it wasn't about lack of effort. You must not have been at any of the practices I went to. Doc never quit, and it's a pathetic cheap shot to suggest he did.4 points -

Honestly, regardless of which school he picks, Deng has handled this with a high amount of class. He hasn't been begging for attention on twitter, he wasn't squawking about his favorites and visits all season long. He was all business during the season, decided which schools he wanted to visit, took all his visits. He tweeted the same things at each school, "what up" when he got there and thanked the fans when he left. This is a guy with his head on straight so I will have to respect his decision no matter what it is.3 points -

Left LSU without committing. Gotta love that.2 points -
I'm going out on a limb and calling the Deng sweepstakes for NU. No inside information here. I get 50/50 odds on this prediction, since Baylor and Indiana appear to be also-rans. Not exactly long-odds. Here are some reasons: 1. Doc beat LSU head-to-head for Dylan Talley back in 2011--so there should be no inferiority complex on this particular battle. 2. The LSU coaching staff seems to have difficulty winning the locker room. How else do you explain this, for example: a. This past year's results of finishing 7th in the SEC and a one NIT win (over San Francisco) with four Rivals four-stars and one Rivals five-star on the roster? Granted, two four stars and the five-star were freshmen--but those freshmen should have been performing at a higher level by NIT time. b. One of the freshmen four-stars is considering a transfer due, apparently, to underperformance issues this season. c. A four-star LSU junior guard did declare early for the NBA--how can a coach have three nearly-NBA-ready players on his team and achieve last season's middling results? That has got the be a dictionary definition of "underperformance." Tim Miles' achievements last year came with only one nearly-NBA-ready player. 3. Deng's 3/4 positions are packed: two four-star forwards (6-8 & 6-9) decided to forego the NBA draft and return for next year alongside 7-0 and four-star Elbert Robinson, and LSU has a commitment from a five-star 6-8 forward in the 2015 class. 4. LSU already has a one-over-signing problem, even without Deng. Nebrasketball it is for Mr. Deng.2 points

OT: Doc Sadler introduced as head coach at Southern Miss

This seems like a misguided opinion. I disagree as think this post is dead on. Doc tries to use his charm and personality to cover his lack of coaching abilities. Maybe, but that doesn't mean he "quit" and "coasted" as Red Dane said. The man cried and had to nearly walk away from the podium during his farewell press conference. He wanted to succeed here badly, and if he had thrown in the towel he would not have cared so much when he left.2 points -

Red Dane: Everyone can have his own opinion but it appears you have an ax to grind concerning Sadler. He is easy to poke fun at, which I have done on occasion, but to imply he "gave up" because he wanted his severance pay seems a bit over the top. Rather than acting as if he wasn't trying to win, he appeared to my eyes to be a man worn down by his lack of success. Certainly he did not set the level of his own salary and who wants to make less money for whatever they do. The last sports person who asked his boss for a pay cut because he was unhappy by his own performance was Ted Williams in the '50's. So it's ok to bash both Callahan and Doc for their obvious lack of victories, but to say either "quit trying to win" is ludicrous. Personally I expect any individual to try to achieve excellence in their daily endeavor irregardless of their salary. And the correct spelling is s-h-y-s-t-e-r if you use the word again.1 point -

Hopefully Cornish will get bored by watching tapes of the 1988 KU NCAA Championship year and pick us. That was the team that began their run in good old BDSC.1 point -

Indiana fan on another board said this when I brought up Deng: "We heard yesterday it's LSU or you guys and we'd moved on." So apparently, they think they are out of it FWIW.1 point -

Kid is very smooth and is quick off the floor. Interesting that he is listed as a Point Guard as he typically played the 2 the last two years. He does need some weight but has the frame to add it. His brother was shorter but thicker so he should be able to put some weight on. When the kid gets going he can fill it up. He almost single handily kept Hickman in the state Title game this past March. He matched the kid from Christian Brothers College who is going to Texas almost point for point that night.1 point -

OT: Doc Sadler introduced as head coach at Southern Miss
Dean Smith reacted to Red Dane for a topic
I'm sorry that a few of you are insulted, but the complete lack of recruiting success here his final two seasons was embarrassing. The diminished level of effort and positive energy on and off the court from when he started to when he finished was extremely noticeable. For as much as he was making, I have no sympathy for the "getting beat down" excuse that many seem eager to hand him. I don't know - If it was all Mountain Dew driven, then he should have kept chugging the stuff because that was not a very good coach in any way, shape, or form that walked out of the athletic department with a handsome treasure chest in tow. At least when he started, he inspired some gritty play to overcome his other deficiencies. When he gave up on that, there was nothing left at all and his extension rates as one of NU's worst decisions in a decade filled with some doozies. People ridicule Bill Callahan and I can see legitimate reasons for it, but you can never say that he wasn't trying with all he had. I respect the man for that and have wished him well ever since. I just do not have the same respect for Doc. When you pass a certain level of income, I think the expectations for commitment, effort, and devotion to the job raise to an extreme level. He seems quite personable, but I think he dropped the ball on those expectations when things did not break his way and would be surprised if he did not do so again. I think he would do well to continue as an assistant or operations person where the expectations are not so high. Well, Southern Miss can at least save on their basketball budget as some of us can recall the ever successful Doc philosophy of having multiple practices without them.-1 points -
