We took a transfer from a guy who was less heralded coming out of high school and played fewer minutes his freshman season at Florida. And I think most people are OK with how that turned out.2 points -
Why are people pretending that we, a program who has never won an NCAA tournament game, don't even want a transfer from a guy who sees the floor with the defending national champions? Ridiculous.2 points

2014 recruits
fred1212 reacted to Row6Seat10 for a topic
A thread was started which listed some of the 2014 recruits the Huskers were looking at on the other board so I thought I would start it again over here so as to keep discussion going and to keep us somewhat updated with the future recruits of Husker WBB. Here is the list with a brief description on each and the schools showing interest in them. There will be more added to this list as time goes on no doubt. Chatrice White (2014) 6'3 post Shelby/Rising City She has stated that she will make her decision after the end of the Nebraska high school season in March or April. Offered by Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Michigan State and Purdue. Notre Dame and Stanford are showing interest. Committed to Illinois 4-28-2013 Tatum Neubert (2014) 6'2 post out of Elizabeth CO. She's starting to gather looks from other schools out west such as Wyoming, Colorado, Indiana. Kansas St, Boise St. and Stanford. Committed to Oregon 8-1-2013 Jasmine Lumpkin (2014) 6' guard out of Joliet Catholic High School, IL. She essentially landed an offer every 2 days during the month of August, picking up a grand total of 16 offers. Here are the 16 schools that have officially made an offer: Purdue, Michigan State, Louisville, Kansas St, Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Marquette, Indiana, Auburn, Ball State, Toledo, Dayton, Wright State, and Arizona State. Committed to Michigan St 5-14-2013 Jasmine Cincore (2014) 5'9 combo guard from Briarcrest Christian in Memphis Has been offered by UAB and has visited Auburn, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, UAB, UT Martin and Georgia State. She will visit Ole Miss on Sept. 8th and later this fall will visit Nebraska, Michigan, Florida, Vandy, K-State, Louisville, Marquette, Indiana, and Memphis." Committed to the Huskers 6-20-2013 Gabrielle Ortiz (2014) 5'7 guard Racine Prairie WI Averaged 18.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists this season. Is considered by some to be the most talented player in the state of Wisconsin. She has an offer from Nebraska but most likely isn't too hip on it. Has shown most interest in Purdue, Michigan St., Miami, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma. Committed to Oklahoma 8-31-2013 Haley Lorenzen (2014) a 6'3 forward from Iowa City IA. She has the Huskers listed as one of the seven schools she is considering. As a sophomore she averaged 13.2 points 5.7 rebounds and had 21 blocks. Could be hard pulling her out of Iowa City though. Along with Nebraska, she has Florida, Iowa St, Northwestern, Louisville, Marquette and obviously Iowa. She took an unofficial visit to Iowa St and visited Florida before that. She is the daughter of former Iowa basketball great Al Lorenzen. Committed to Florida 1-4-2013. Natalie Romeo (2014) 5'8 point guard from Carondelet HS in Concord CA. Offered by Nebraska over a year ago. Her junior year, Natalie averaged 21.3 ppg, 6.5 assists, 6.2 steals and 5.6 rebounds per game. She went for 30 or more points five times with a high of 34 against Archbishop Mitty in the Nor Cal playoffs. She also has offers from Arizona, Oregon, USC, Utah, Louisville, Gonzaga, Ohio State, Washington, Boston College among others. Committed to the Huskers 8-1-2013 Ivy Brown (2014) 6' forward Larue County HS. Hodgenville, KY Brown averaged 19.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, and she shot 70% from the line and 37% from behind the arc her sophomore year. Interest from many schools including Louisville, St. John’s, Western Kentucky, Miama (FL), Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Indiana, Stanford, Xavier among others. Committed to Western Kentucky 9-4-2013 Kaylee Page (2014) 6'2 forward from Wamego High School KS Nebraska has been chasing Kaylee for sometime and she has shown some interest in us but that may be all it is. Kaylee is most likely the best recruit to come out of Kansas next year. She took a trip to Oklahoma St two weeks ago and last week was at Stanford. OSU looks to be the favorite right now. Beside the Huskers she also has interest from KU, Colorado and Missouri. We have a better chance to land her sister Lanie who is in the 2015 class and who some consider a better player than Kaylee. Committed to the Huskers 5-15-2013 Mariya Moore (2014) 6' guard from Salesian High School in Hercules, CA Strong power player with inside- out potential. Constantly attacking and not afraid to attack opposing size inside. Can finish around the rim and utilizes the reverse effectively. Will need to refine the perimeter skills. At one time and maybe still is considering Nebraska. Has offers from Vanderbilt, Ohio St, Louisville, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Kentucky, Tennessee, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, California, Arizona St. Oregon St. & Nevada and now Nebraska again. Committed to Louisville 7-31-2013 Erykah Davenport (2014) 6'2 center from Tucker High School in Tucker, GA a suburb of Atlanta. Davenport is a high BCS prospect who has already received offers from Georgia State and Central Florida, and is getting a lot of attention from BCS schools such as Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Purdue. Committed to Miami FL 9-28-2013 Charise Holloway (2014) 5'9 forward from St. Mary's High School in Stockton, CA. Strong player capable of putting up huge numbers on any given night. Her game has an advanced element of "power" and she's an exceptional leaper. Has offers from UNLV, Hawaii, Utah, Nebraska and Mississippi and garnering a lot of attention from Michigan, Arizona, Oklahoma, Arizona St, Washington St, Memphis, Seton Hall, plus many more. Committed to Arizona 8-10-2013 Kia Nurse (2014) 6'1 guard from St. Thomas More HS in Hamilton, Ontario. Has played for the Ontario National team for several years now. Lead the Canadian U17 team to a Bronze Metal with a win over Japan at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championships. Has garnered much interest from the B1G. Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Nebraska, and Penn State with late interest from UConn and Tennessee. Has visited Indiana. Blue Star now has her ranked as the 10th best prospect in the 2014 class. Commited to UConn 11-18-2013 Brittany McPhee (2014) 5'11 forward from Mt. Rainier HS in Des Moines, WA. Has Nebraska, Stanford, Arizona St and Gonzaga in her final four for colleges. Last season averaged 22.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.8 assists and 2.6 blocks per game as a junior and was named the Gatorade Player of the year in Washington. Committed to Stanford 8-6-2013 Darrien Washington (2014) 6'3 center from Skyline High School located in Oakland CA. Nebraska is showing a lot of interest in the Cal Stars Nike Elite center. Darrien average 16.4 points 12.6 rebounds and 5 blocks per game her junior year. Her offer list includes Oregon, Oregon St, Arizona St, Utah, Washington and St. Mary's. Committed to the Huskers 9-1-2013 Chandler Smith (2014) 6'1 wing from Brewster WA. Fundamental perimeter performer handles and attacks in transition; court awareness, reads pressure, passes with IQ on break; elevates on mid-range game to the arc with soft touch; a sleeper in the 2014 class. Arizona St. Nebraska, Oregon St, Baylor, Washington St, Gonzaga and Oregon all showing interest. Commited to the Huskers 11-14-20131 point -

He's big and athletic enough to be a difference maker and he's definitely someone we want. Look no further than the freshmen stats of Pitchford and Petteway to show you what a year in the weight room and time to get acquainted in college will do for you.1 point

Rumor connects this to Miami trip. If so, probably a solid rules violation. On the other hand, indefinitely isn't out for the season, so probably wasn't a case of dealing a plane load of coke to Crockett and Tubbs, so there's that.1 point

Bullet points of broadcast-- Last time for TM show at Carlos O'Kelly's Arkansas State Game Had good week of practice Good first half, players played with each other and for each other Got some good 3 point baskets in transition 29 points and 19 assists is really good. Said part of reason why assists to points ratio is sometimes low is because he often puts his player in isolation situation. But still likes to see around 1 assist for every 2-3 baskets Played good defense against Marvin Wilson, Benny especially Wishes he could have put them away but we're not there yet. Have to get there, players have to learn how to put teams away Team had a good rhythm in first half, but he messed it up by switching up offense because he wanted them to get used to having to do that in a game. Thinks in Big 10 they'll see a lot of defensive looks in same game sometimes. Glad he did it although he admits to messing w/ their rhythm, thinks they could have scored over 90 and gotten everyone double Runzas On some of the players Lee Barfknecht made comment that we have 4 players who could score 30 on a given night. He's not sure that isn't true. On officiating, its getting better. Thinks scoring is up because of more possessions. Says Big 10 officials do a good job considering they're officials ("I'm not gonna get fined for that am I?") Shavon's scoring up in last couple of games because we're running more motion, which suits his game. Other players need to adapt to motion offense. On Shavon dancing: "Stick to your day job." Says Pitchford scoring a three from the right wing on the opening possession is never by design, it just has worked out that way. If he ever called it, it would never happen. Nate Hawkins a smart player, can play 2, sometimes the 3, and maybe even the 1. Was asked if Hawkins surprised him with how good he is. Miles said in a one on one situation he's not that great, but in a 5 on 5 environment he's tremendous Gotta have Ray hit his threes. Team needs to make more threes. We only make 5.7/game, which is almost last in league. Would like to see 7 or 8 / game Fuller could help them in threes but says he's just behind. 10th spot on roster no guarantee of playing time. Some games hard to get a 9th guy in, let alone 10th Rivers doesn't mainly because of defensive rebounding. Hates giving up his length on defense, but trade off for only 1 rebound every 11 min. and just overall quickness We're 2nd in league in steals. Minnesota presses on ever possession make or miss and has 8.6 steals / game, we have 8.3 Jayden Olson Jayden Olson, Director of Operations spoke for part of the time. He is in charge of making sure players are on top of their grades, also has responsibilities in scheduling and recruiting Talked about challenges of making schedule. Hardest thing is getting quality games Spoke with every Big XII school, the SEC, and the Pac XII, and said we'll come out to your place next year because we're looking for a road game. Most of them wouldn't even talk to us. One place said "We need to play a more notorious school." Hard to get opponents head coach to commit. We were all set to play a school, we sent contract and at last minute they backed out. We ended up getting Florida Gulf Coast. Future matchups include a tournament next year in Hawaii, Creighton contract will be renewed, Cincinnati comes here next year Dec. 13th, We're looking for home and home with "high majors". We want to get games scheduled with Texas schools, partly to help with recruiting Says Miles will play anyone Source : http://www.huskers.com/AudioArchives.dbml1 point

Honest question, why is this a big deal? Especially at Nebraska? Why not make a nice run with a top heavy, senior laden team (Miami last year) and then take the hit the next season or two? The idea of consistently reloading and being good is nice, but NU has been so bad for long that I would settle for a big year every now and then surrounded by some lesser seasons.1 point

So, is Creighton trying to overcome the rep of being soft by being dirty?
jdostal reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
Here's an article that appeared in the OWH after their NCAA tourney loss to No Carolina in March 2012. http://www.omaha.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120318/BLUEJAYS/703189808/-1 In that game, there were several instances in which Creighton players were on the delivering end of controversial contact including: Echinique knocking over Zeller; Gibbs hitting John Henson's previously-injured wrist; and Wragge decking Kendall Marshall on a drive to the bucket that caused Marshall to sustain a fractured wrist. Here are some quotes from the linked article: As to the Gibbs incident with Henson: Henson, who missed the last three games with an injured wrist, received a technical foul after protesting when Gibbs slapped his wrist in a battle for a loose ball. "I thought the whistle blew and one of their players slapped down on my wrist three or four times," Henson said. "I don't know if it was purposeful or not, but I thought it was unnecessary and it got me a little fired up." After the technical foul was called on Henson, Gibbs was seen winking at the CU bench. As to which Gibbs was quoted in the above article stating: "I was reacting to him getting the technical," said Gibbs, explaining the wink. "It's like when I got (Evansville's) Colt Ryan to get one early in the season. I'm an instigator, I guess." In that same article, they discussed Wragge decking Kendall Marshall, and here's what Wragge said about it in the OWH article: Wragge said he wasn't trying to injure Marshall on the play, which occurred with about 11 minutes to play. Marshall and Wragge collided as the North Carolina guard was making a hard drive to the basket. "He split the middle and was coming hard down the lane," Wragge said. "I moved over to try to block the shot, we collided and he hit the court." A slo-mo replay of the Wragge incident shows Wragge jogging towards the basket from about the top of the key and Marshall following in behind him getting ready to blow past him. Wragge turns and sees Marshall about ready to blow by and as Marshall goes airborne, Wragge gives him a forearm shiver with his right arm into Marshall's chest, knocking Marshall off balance and causing him to land hard. Wragge's right arm is nowhere near the ball and really not in a position to make any kind of play on the ball. It was a hard foul. Plain and simple. At the very end of the article, there's this: The irony of the postgame hullabaloo is that Creighton rarely is recognized for its on-court toughness. The Bluejays are more apt to be called a bunch of softies than thugs. "When was the last time you heard a Creighton team being called too tough?'' Rasmusen said. Which sounds to me like an endorsement of unmitigated jackassery. But not quite as blunt and unambiguously supportive of thuggish behavior as the head coach tweeting props to a player for getting ejected after committing a flagrant foul. I think there's an unmistakable message in all of this. And I don't think it speaks very highly for the Creighton team and its coach.-1 points
