Since the season is officially over I'm gonna break down our returning starters and incoming recruits and the impact I think they will have for us.

- Andrew White: starting at the 3. Should be a volume scorer for us again. Would like to see him add some more to his game and build on his versatility. I thought he was making progress towards the end of the season in being a more complete scorer.

- Anton Gill: in contention for a starting spot. Will more than likely have to battle it out with Tai for a spot next to Watson. Seems to be a prolific scorer that can do so in multiple ways. From what I heard his weakness is defense so we will see if foul trouble becomes a problem for him.

- Bakari Evelyn: don't see alot of time for him unless injuries occur or he vastly improves on whatever was holding him back from playing more this year. Miles mentioned he could play next year or redshirt.

- Edward Morrow: potential starter at the 4. Showed a lot of promise in the limited action he played this year. Morrow needs to get healthy and add a competent jumper to his game. This kid is money around the rim.

- Glynn Watson: starting PG. Not much competition for him at the 1. I look for him to take over and be a productive and consistent scorer and facilitator.

- Isaiah Roby: too good not to play. Could work his way into the starting lineup as the year goes on. Will be White's back up and understudy. Roby will probably be battling McVeigh for playing time. Interesting to see if he is a point forward like advertised.

- Jack McVeigh: possible starter at the 4 but also could have trouble finding minutes. White will have the majority of the minutes at the 3 so Jack will be competing with Roby for back up minutes there. The 4 spot is also gonna be a little crowded so I wouldn't be surprised to see Jack start but I also wouldn't be surprised to see him struggling to find the floor. Bulking up a little bit would help him tremendously.

- Jake Hammond: most important player to develop this off season imo. Even if we land a good big guy we still need a decent backup. Hammond could range from starting to not playing just like he did this year. Ideally we land a talented center and Hammond is able to back him up with a quality 12-15 minutes a game.

- Jeriah Horne: possible redshirt candidate. I don't doubt his skill but he seems to be in a log jam at the 4 with Morrow, McVeigh, and Jacobson. Plus I know he is a stout kid but he looks like he could use a year with the weights to get more cut and lean.

- Michael Jacobson: possible starter at 4 or 5 depending on if we land a center. Everyone seems to be convinced he has the potential to grow so here's to hoping he grows an inch or two. Miles has said he is a great athlete so I don't doubt his ability to play the four. I would like to see his 3 pt shot develop more effectively and some smoother post moves.

- Nick Fuller: more than likely buried on the bench at either the 3 or 4. Hopefully they move him back to the three and he can regain his shot back. Was an okay shooter but I think the grind of playing in the post really wore him down and made him lose confidence in his shot.

- Tai Webster: possible starter at the two. I see him more as the 6th man as he can backup both Glynn and Anton. If he could take another step like he did this year you are looking at the 6th man of the year or even 1st or 2nd team Big Ten caliber player. Hopefully he learns to be more consistent with his agrssiveness especially with Shields gone we will need a good slasher.

- Malcolm Laws: was the last guy off the bench every game and played the least amount out of anyone this year. I don't see much changing.

- Tanner Borchardt: seemed like Miles was close to playing him in some meaningful situations this year. A year in the weight room will do him wonders to trasform his body bc he still looks like a football player. He is a lane clogger and if we somehow don't get our post situation figured out maybe he sees small amounts of meaningful playing time.

Ok, Norm Jr., if I go on vacation somewhere without internet access, I'm going to rely on you to keep the discussion rolling around here, ok? Big shoes (to go along with the big stomach) but you're off to a good start.

I would suggest that you throw in some grammar policing from time to time and a smattering of short, snarky posts. Just to keep everyone on their toes. When I'm ready to retire, the gig is yours.

Will do thank you. In defense of my grammar I typed the whole post on my phone so that's the excuse I'm going to role with.

Don't worry about the short snarky posts - jimmy and I have those covered.

Norm is saying you need to be a part-time grammar cop if he ever goes on vacation. He wasn't commenting on your grammar. So, you're good!

Horne is not as stout as one might think.  He has a solid base but is not thick

Precisely. Just follow atskooc's lead. Don't correct everything or everyone. Just enough, yknow, to maintain some standards around here. ;)

Ran into Benny , Tai, and Jake H. downtown last night . Man do we need to get get some good weight on Jake pronto.

didn't hurt them did you? If I remember you are a big guy right?

Tai is still one of the most underappreciated player on our team.  He is a starter unless something strange happens.  I do believe we will have three very good guards that can rotate between the two positions.

I don't know about this.

Who's your backup PG?

If Tai starts and let's say he picks up an early couple of fouls, then who comes in to play point when Glynn needs a blow?

I think Tai plays lots of minutes next year, but he might come off the bench at either the 1 or the 2 just because he can handle both.

White started doing more off the bounce towards the end of the year and I think he'll continue to develop that skill.  But also, I think next year he'll have more opportunities to catch and shoot in rhythm without having to shoot off the dribble like he did a lot towards the end of this season.

- Anton Gill: in contention for a starting spot. Will more than likely have to battle it out with Tai for a spot next to Watson. Seems to be a prolific scorer that can do so in multiple ways. From what I heard his weakness is defense so we will see if foul trouble becomes a problem for him.  I agree with what you say later about Tai probably coming off the bench and backing up both the point and the SG spots.  Unless Bakari makes big strides in the off-season.  But I think Gill is odds-on fav to win the SG job.  He just has the ability to do so much from what I've seen of him and can score from all 3 levels and create his own shot.  That will open things for Andrew White and so we want them on the floor together.

- Bakari Evelyn: don't see alot of time for him unless injuries occur or he vastly improves on whatever was holding him back from playing more this year. Miles mentioned he could play next year or redshirt.  Yeah, probably true.  Not a good sign if Miles suggests possible redshirt after a year where he might as well have redshirted.

- Edward Morrow: potential starter at the 4. Showed a lot of promise in the limited action he played this year. Morrow needs to get healthy and add a competent jumper to his game. This kid is money around the rim. Be interesting to see how much the foot problem held Ed back this year.  He needs to seriously work on some skills during the off-season, though.  With his length and athleticism, he could be a bona fide star if he developed a mid-range jumper or, better yet, out to 3-point range like what we saw from Vitto Brown.  One salivates thinking about the possibilities.  Hopefully he lives up to his potential.  As discussed elsewhere, he probably has the highest ceiling compared to where he is now of anyone on the team.

- Glynn Watson: starting PG. Not much competition for him at the 1. I look for him to take over and be a productive and consistent scorer and facilitator.  As stated elsewhere, Jake Layman's freshman year 3-pt % was under 30%.  I think there's reason to hope that Glynn improves enough in this category to be a legit threat.  He's also clutch and you can't teach that.  He's skilled, he's athletic, and he'll have an extra year of seasoning.  Glynn will be an important player for us next year.

- Isaiah Roby: too good not to play. Could work his way into the starting lineup as the year goes on. Will be White's back up and understudy. Roby will probably be battling McVeigh for playing time. Interesting to see if he is a point forward like advertised.  Isaiah does a lot of very good things.  He's skinny, though, and needs to add a bunch of muscle.  Not sure how durable he'll be until he puts on some poundage.  Still, he's long and skilled.  Really looking forward to seeing this kid.

Ditto. Big question is whether we find  real 5.  If not, there will be minutes to be had at the 4 because Jacobson and Ed will be holding down the post.

- Jake Hammond: most important player to develop this off season imo. Even if we land a good big guy we still need a decent backup. Hammond could range from starting to not playing just like he did this year. Ideally we land a talented center and Hammond is able to back him up with a quality 12-15 minutes a game.  I realize post players take longer to develop, generally.  But it's not at all a good sign for Jake that he got beat out for the starting job at center by a true freshman who's shorter.

Agree for the most part.  I think Horne does some things the other guys in the running at the 4 don't/can't do.  Definitely agree about him getting more cut and lean.  Agree he's stout.  Disagree with whoever said he's not thick.  For a HS senior, he's plenty thick.  He has the frame to add lots of good muscle weight.

I'm somewhat disappointed in Michael's 3-pt shot this year.  It didn't get better as the season went along and probably got worse.  He finished under 20% from three.  I expected better.  I'd rather have Ed there not taking any threes at all than having Michael going 3 for 16.  That's almost as bad as Bakari Evelyn.  Michael needs to grow that 2 extra inches, if he can, and play the 5.

- Nick Fuller: more than likely buried on the bench at either the 3 or 4. Hopefully they move him back to the three and he can regain his shot back. Was an okay shooter but I think the grind of playing in the post really wore him down and made him lose confidence in his shot. Nick is a good kid.  He won't see much floor time, but when he comes in for situational duty, he'll give us all he has.  I'm OK with that.  If he seeks greener pastures, I'll respect it.  If he doesn't, I won't complain.

I think Tai sees the floor a lot next year, whether he starts or not.  I think there'll be a 3-headed monster in the back-court with Watson, Gill and Webster.  White at the 3 with probably Roby backing him up.  And then the 4 and 5 will be the expected rotation of Morrow, Jacobson, McVeigh and maybe Horne, unless we find a real 5 somewhere between now and then, which hopefully we do.

Is that called "fisking" what I did in red?

Good writeup khook.  A lot of my thoughts written for me before I got around to writing them.

I disagree.  For a HS kid, I think Horne is pretty thick.  He'll get thicker in our weight program, but he has the muscle structure and frame of a guy who's going to be a beast.

I guess we will agree to disagree.  Another option will be having Roby play point forward.  The kid has handles and can possibly create a match up nightmare.

Going back to Tai.  He spent a whole year at PG for a team that went to the NCAA tournament.  Many will say (and perhaps rightly so) we won despite of Tai's contribution.  But we all know his warts and his abilities.  We also know Glynn's warts and quite honestly, I can only see him getting better.  Gill is the unknown.  I am not yet ready to anoint him as the second coming until he actually fits into our program and produces results.

I am still awaiting word on what the final roster will actually look like.  I anticipate one, two or perhaps three additional changes before next year.

Walk-on addition

- Johnny Trueblood: not much going for him next year. However, I could see him having a similiar impact as Mike Peltz by the time he is a senior. Good enough to give you 5 or 10 min when needed. Bright kid and solid basketball player.

What makes you think that? Did you see Miles glance down the bench whimsically at Borchardt during games?

Not saying he doesn't have the build of a Div 1 kid, but my view from the 12 row the other night tells me he is NOT as thick as some think. And I agree that he has the frame to put good weight on.

As to Horne, well, he's not a skinny kid.  He's nowhere near as skinny as Roby.  Compared to other HS athletes, he's robust.  He's ample.  He's got some heft to him.  He's not Andre Almeida fat, but he's certainly on the beefy end of the spectrum.

He said it on his radio show. Said he told Borchardt to be ready to go. I believe it was before the first Purdue game. And like I said it was bc of out lack of a center. If we get one he probably has no chance of playing.

No he not Roby thin but both myself and CH-III made comments when we first saw him that he was much thinner than he appeared in photos.  Must be like TV and they added 15 pounds.
