The RPI is a mess this year, probably because of some of the head-scratching OOC losses earlier this year by the majors and some fortunate scheduling by mid-majors. There's no way we're 156, as Warren Nolan has us for RPI. In addition to KenPom, we're 77 on Sagarin. Those two measures are going to carry a lot more weight with the committee this year. (I'm not saying this to suggest we're getting in.)

I'd expect a couple of teams to get at-large bids with RPIs in the 60s, which will give BSPN guys something to howl about. And I'd expect a couple of teams with RPIs in the 30s to get left out. The NCAA committee doesn't follow RPI religiously. Shatel interviewed Bruce Rasmussen this week about the process, for those who missed it:

I wish I could get on the committee. Do the members get a salary? How are they elected? If I were the chairman, I would hold the meetings in a sports bar and close the whole place down as we set around opining on who we think should be included and enjoying our favorite beverages. I think at least one certified fan with knowledge of the game should be included as well as one retired player and one respected journalist since the whole process seems pretty subjective. Would members be eligible for bribes like in soccer? You know, the more I think about this the more I think I should be appointed.

The more you wrote, the more likely your appointment is a foregone conclusion. I petition that HHC should be the governing oversight committee for the committee of beverage enhancement.

How much does that MI ST win stick out like a sore thumb. Man there is a strict line between our wins and losses.

About as much as that Samford loss

On that we agree. 5-1 against the bottom teams. Now 6-1. We were 1-11 against the top of the league.

If you told me at the start of the year that our second-worst loss would be to the #77 team in the country, I would have really liked our chances at making the NCAA tournament.  But if you told me that our second-best win would be over the #81 team in the country, I would have assumed the year would be a complete train wreck.  Odd.

Small correction, our second-worst loss is to Penn State (#139).

Well, the end result was disappointing, but keep in mind we ended the BTT with 2 more wins than Iowa.  And *that* is a good feeling!
