I am anxious to see what his BMI will be after one year on campus.  With work ethic, nutrition and weights this kid could be just want the doctor ordered.  The skills are there.

I know we're recruiting bigs, but what constitutes a "big"?  6'9"?

What about 6'7" with a 7' wingspan like Morrow?  Is he a big?

What about 6'8" Jacobsen?  Is he a big?

These are genuine questions--not being contentious.  I'm just wondering if the definition has changed.

I with you on the weight.  I'm just not sure height (i.e. a traditional center) is as important as it used to be given the speed of the game.

Keep in mind,  I continue to be a Hammond guy too... I think he'll be just fine as our functional center for years to come.

I think Miles has said anyone taller than 6'9" is pretty much a big.

Not sure whether that's with shoes or not.

All kidding aside, LK1, that's a good question.

One thing that you have to factor aside from standing vertical reach -- a 6'7" guy with a short neck and really long arms might be able to reach as high as a 6'10" guy with a really long neck and not so long arms -- is overall body mass.

These guys are throwing their bodies into one another all game long and mass matters in such situations.  If you're leaning against a 210# guy and you weigh 250#, you're eventually going to wear him out no matter how strong he is.

Hell, Aleks Maric was like 270# at his peak and was strong as an ox, to boot.  There weren't a lot of dudes out there who could body up against him all game long.  I don't care if your 6'7" kid has a 15 foot wingspan.  If he doesn't weigh a good 240-250#, he's going to have a tough time holding down the paint.

Typically, the taller the person, the more mass they can carry and still maintain good basketball conditioning.

When I talk about a center or a big man, in my mind, what I'm thinking of is a guy with basically Moses Abraham's dimensions or larger:  6'9" and 250#.  He needs to carry that weight and still be athletic and strong.  As an added bonus, it'd be nice if he had soft hands and some skill, which Moses was a bit short on.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - When you see Jeriah Horne, you know he's going to put on a show!

The Barstow Academy senior is making his mark and doing it with authority. At 6’7”, he's averaging more than 20 points and 10 boards a game.

Now he's taking his game to Nebraska. It was a tough choice, but the Huskers offered everything he needed to get better at the next level.

"I like the Big 10 Conference, the competition the academics as well as the player development," said Horne.

Offer letters have come in from all over the country including K-State, Wichita State and Pepperdine University.

Found this game on TIme Warner Sports' web site - but I'm not sure if it works, as you have to be a TWC subscriber to view it.  ;) Looks like it's the entire game and it looks like you could log in with a Lincoln TWC account, so hopefully it'll work for someone - Horne had 17 pts to lead all scorers for Barstow.

Horne's team is currently is 10-1.  They beat one of the three big high schools from Columbia today.

Didn't realize this was a private school until I looked for stats and realize they recruit kids from both KS and MO.
