HuskerCager Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 Cager, here's what I said on March 10. Show me where Vooch had film remotely this good. Norm, yes, I realize you were high on this guy before others start offering, and I probably shouldn't have made my reply off of your post. I didn't mean to single you out. I've seen the film, which means very little because I'm a lousy judge of talent based off of a 2 minute clip. I do think my rule of thumb regarding players who suddenly become highly recruited the spring of their senior year applies 80% of the time, though. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 Still, I would have liked this kid in the fall if he'd had film like that back then. Quote

FredsSlacks Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 i guess the good news is that we're the only big 10 team to officially offer him as of now. Quote
HuskerCager Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 All those coaches in to watch Mike Edwards today.... his HS team is still playing? How late in the month are state tournaments in Michigan anyway? Or were all those coaches watching Edwards study? Quote
uneblinstu Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 Wonder what the atmosphere in the gym was with all those coaches there. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 Don't like Larry Brown being there. He has bag men, I'm pretty sure. UMass and KSU don't scare me. Marquette frightens the hell out of me except they have a loaded class already and don't really need him. Henry Ellenson is already signed with them, so that's just an opportunity to ride the pine. Georgia and Arkansas worry me, however. I want us to sign this kid. I think he'd be the final piece to what would be a really great class for us. I think it would have all the pieces from 1 through 5. So, c'mon Tim, make it happen. Quote

His high school team is done so maybe they were watching him during a workout or maybe something involving AAU. And on your question on state tournaments, the semis on on Friday so they are wrapping up shortly Quote

Norm Peterson Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 The big east is such a sad shell of what it used to be and everyone knows Auburn is no place for a good hoops player to call home. Mike's best bet would be to accept an offer from DONU. C'mon, Mike, make the best call: Be a Husker. Be N. Quote

Huskerpapa Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 The 6-foot-9 Edwards, who averaged 18.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.5 blocks per game, visited U-M over the weekend and might be on the verge of a scholarship offer. "He likes Michigan a lot," said Rockey Black, the president of the Michigan Warriors AAU program. "The funny thing is his dad was a football player at Michigan State. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/wolverines/2015/03/24/michigan-basketball-mike-edwards/70379040/ U-M reportedly has offered a scholarship to German big man Moritz Wagner, who visited in early March but is not slated to make his decision until sometime in April. By then, U-M might have another scholarship available if Caris LeVert leaves for the NBA or if any current players transfer. Quote
FredsSlacks Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 some of this guy's dunks look blake griffin-esque. I think there's a reason he's gotten about 10 major offers in the last month. Quote
King James Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 Recruiting bigs in the spring is always a mess. There are so few of them left, and so many teams need them, that guys are pretty regularly overvalued as compared to where they place in the fall. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted March 26, 2015 Report Posted March 26, 2015 While Brown is the big prize and would make the Dawgs a favorite to play in the Sweet Sixteen next year, what Georgia really needs to firm up its roster is post players. To that end, the Bulldogs are chasing Westland Michigan center Mike Edwards (6’10”, 225). Edwards held few significant offers until his break out senior season. Georgia offered first, followed by Nebraska and Kansas State. Georgia’s roster is certainly enticing to any big man recruit interested in immediate playing time, but the elephant in the room – Michigan – is now making noise http://dawnofthedawg.com/2015/03/25/can-georgia-basketball-recruit-the-jaylen-brown-mike-edwards-double-play/ Quote
Swan88 Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 Here is an article that mentions Mike Edwards and Glynn Watson and Tarin Smith, all in the same context: https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1749678 "The more Rivals.com learns about Westland (Mich.) John Glenn's senior big man Mike Edwards, the more we feel he could be in that sleeper category. . . . In the past few weeks, Nebraska, Kansas State, Georgia -- where he will take an official visit this weekend -- and Rice have offered scholarships joining Illinois State, UC Davis, Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois. Auburn has expressed some interest, along with Marquette,Arkansas, Penn State and over the weekend Edwards took an unofficial visit to Michigan after the Wolverines watched him earlier in the week." And . . . "It was a strong senior season for four-star point guard Glynn Watson and he finished it out in style leading Westchester (Ill.) St. Joseph to a class 3A state title. The No. 88 player in the senior class is the jewel of Nebraska's 2015 recruiting class and he looks like he has the tools to be a multiple-year starter in Lincoln. Watson makes those around him better, has command of the game off the dribble and he leads vocally and by example. The only thing that could hold him back early at Nebraska looks to be strength, but the idea of being able to unleash him and promising freshman Tarin Smith in a two-headed point guard attack for years to come has to be exciting to Huskers fans." Norm Peterson Posted March 27, 2015 Report Posted March 27, 2015 If Michigan offers, I think he's gone. To Michigan. I'm not sure we have much of a chance at this point even if Michigan doesn't offer. I think this is a rare case of a quality player not getting attention until late in the game as opposed to a bunch of teams doing whatever they can to fill out their rosters with one more big. I hope Miles stays after him, though. I think it's worth the time he'd be risking for the off chance this kid ends up liking Nebraska best. Quote
hhcmatt Posted March 27, 2015 Author Report Posted March 27, 2015 His twitter account is barely used and he's tweeted about academics. The guys we land typically aren't tweetheads like Trey Dickerson. We've got a chance. Quote

"Standing 6-foot-10, Edwards is a good athlete with a great frame to build on. He has good hands, runs the floor, can put the ball on the floor a bit and his overall instincts look good. He needs more strength and polish with his footwork around the rim, but the tools to earn a high-major scholarship are all there and not surprisingly the high-major attention has come." Has Rivals been reading my posts in this thread? It's like they copied what I said. Quote
