jason2486 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Duke is playing 2-3 against Virginia. They are carving it up at times. While we got the ball in similar spots, Virginia is doing a better job of ball movement, as well as having the other guys move when the ball goes short corner or to the high post. Petteway, Shields, and Webster could make some serious noise by cutting I believe. We tend to stand around way too much, which makes it easy on the defense. I expect a much better showing against Northwestern. And I'm guessing Northwestern will run some zone. I believe we will see much better movement with the energy of PBA helping out! These guys hopefully can go on a similar run to last year. Quote

hhcmatt Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 And I'm guessing Northwestern will run some zone. You'd think the small, private academics driven school in the conference would be smart enough to do that. colhusker 1 Quote

colhusker Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I would pack the zone in the line vs us and dare us to shoot. Pretty clear we have no one that can knock down the outside shot on a consistent basis. Quote

If coaching against us, I would let those two shoot from behind the arc too. We just don't have shooters. Petteway scores due to the volume of shots taken. Quote

Yet, next year, with the addition of White, Morrow, Watson...and the maturation of Fuller...20 pounds on our centers...a transfer senior...plus the lack of focused pressure on the 2 guys that have been the extreme focus of attention...and we will finally get to the beginning of an era where our players are like zucchinis. How is that for tasty kool-aid? And you know what????... I am a hoping believer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfuBREMXxts Silverbacked1 and HB 2 Quote

brfrad Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 White needs to be the shooter we think he is. Even, if he shoots a bunch, like Rey did for us, it would be beneficial for us. Quote
jimmykc Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I think they should outlaw the zone defense against us the way they used to do in the NBA. If they did we might be competitive in all of our remaining games. hhcmatt 1 Quote

AuroranHusker Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I'd almost be willing to throw Trevor Menke in there to be a zone-buster. NU would have to zone up on D, but it certainly couldn't be any worse than the offensive offense we've witnessed these past 2 games (86 points combined). You never know until you try! Quote

basketballjones Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I would love to see us go a little 5-out with some unpredictable slashing and cutting. Just something I would try... Who knows if it will work!? Quote
Dean Smith Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 I would love to see us go a little 5-out with some unpredictable slashing and cutting. Just something I would try... Who knows if it will work!? I know what you mean (I think) and this might be splitting hairs but you can't have unpredictable slashing and cutting. You need to be in synch with your teammates as much on offense as you are on defense. You can have some universal reads where everyone get the same read and everyone now knows a cut is coming. For instance, one of the most common reads down to jr. high is when your defender extends any part of himself over the three point line you MUST cut back door. So I agree with you and after splitting your hairs I think you mean unpredictable to the defense team, not to your teammates. Quote

"Random," people cutting into the high post and low post. We have the general size to get different people different looks in paint touch situations. If I told you before the season you'd get a 6'10" kid who can shoot 3's, two 6'6"-6'7" strong and athletic kids who can score from anywhere, and an athletic, long 6'4" SG/PG, I bet we'd be pretty excited to see an interchange, motion offense. AuroranHusker Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 Confidence seems to be at a low. Amazing what seeing a few good looks drop will do for the makeup of the squad. Last year's late run was predicated on solid D & timely shooting. And, confidence! Even swag... Silverbacked1 and Red Don 2 Quote
