http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prestige_%28film%29

A magician performs an illusion for a young girl explaining that each trick has three parts; The Pledge, where the audience is presented with an ordinary object; The Turn, where the object is turned into something extraordinary; and The Prestige, where the object is brought back.

(i'm not really buying the buzz-coach of the day thing that gets dropped)

At least we will have consistency: from one Tim-Miles-Opposite to another Tim-Miles-Opposite.

For definition purposes, please note that Tim Miles has a very high IQ for dealing with the public, for building good will for the program, for getting the public to [drumroll] like him. A Tim-Miles-Opposite . . . doesn't.

Bret Bielema?

I mean, are we interested in becoming Wisconsin South?

Well, they are on the verge of winning their 4th B1G championship in the last 5 years, largely still on Bielema talent...I would personally overlook a lot of things for that kind of success.

I am of the opinion that if we HEAR about a coach, that coach is not the one being hired.  Select few likely know what is going on and a name will not be leaked UNLESS the individual leaking the name wants to end his/her employment at UNL or one of its vendors.  Just saying...

Whoever it turns out is our coach...I think he and Shawn knew it last week...so the only others involved should be the lawyers. I plan on seeing our new coach at halftime Sunday...with an announcement Saturday or Sunday before the game. Given Shawn's multiple pronouncements...I think he is getting us ready to see large numbers given to a major head coach in that contract. I will be OK with that so long as he turns out to be worth it!

I think this is called the Tim Miles Therom of Coaching Rumors

I love my football, but I DO NOT want the announcement of a new coach to interfere with my basketball.  I am sure that is the "in" thing to do, but I want the emotion of the basketball game to flow through the whole game and not have the announcement distract the fans from the task at hand...just saying!

Well it is time to see if Riley can step out of the VW and into the Ferrari and make it go fast!

He has won 2 Grey Cups and was the Chargers coach for 3 years...so somebody must think he is smart.

Kamdy is in a spot where he is in a better position to give an observation from a better view...I will be interested in his perspective.

The facilities difference will be night/day.

I think something else is up... Some big time OC or DC to come along. Seems like a stretch hire for someone who needed to make a splash for his job (Shawn E.)

Maybe to groom Frost as a HC for some years? Frost coming as an OC with big money.

This will go 1 of two ways..... Bill Callahan 2.0 or......... Tim Miles 2.0

He's a well respected coach.  But hasn't won much.  So who knows.............

There was talk about firing him at Oregon State after his losing record this year.  Guess we saved them the trouble.  Yay us.

Sooooooo glad Tom Osborne was nowhere near this coaching search.

Doc Sadler was a well respect coach, too.  So was Barry Collier.

Y'know what happens to "well respected" coaches who don't win much?

THEY GET FIRED!!!

And thank GAWD Tom Osborne had nothing to do with this coaching search.  Can you imagine?  He might have hired someone with Nebraska connections or something.  Whew.  Dodged that bullet.

In terms of personality, seems like the anti-Pelini hire.

It also seems like he can develop QBs....that's fairly important these days. We haven't really had that lately.

Let's see what he can do with the resources at Nebraska.

A lot of the reaction I'm seeing is the same reaction when Miles was hired....people love to lash out when they look at a hire after 3 minutes on google.

I find it completely hilarious that no one had any idea this was coming....essentially all those guys with "sources" or whatever are just blowing smoke. Too funny.

I could immediately find reason to be hopeful and optimistic about the Miles hire.  Didn't take much scouring the web to see that he'd turned around CSU in fairly short order and, using players we didn't bother to recruit, got them into the NCAA tourney.

If Riley had taken over a moribund Oregon State program and elevated it to the edge of relevance in 5 years, I'd have a reason to feel optimistic about this hire as well.

I'm struggling to find any silver lining here.

Doc Sadler was a nobody.  Riley has been offered jobs at USC and Bama.  Some thing Frost will be coming on as OC and assistant HC.  That would be nice.

I'm giving you a lot of sh!t right now, 13, because of your stance on the coaching FIRE, and getting what you want on the FIRE end puts you at risk on the HIRE end, so I'm having a little fun with that right now.  (Of course, I know you can take it.)  But, in all seriousness, in defense of the hire, people have been saying he was doing a lot with very little resources at Oregon State.  And I'm curious how Oregon State's resources compare with Kansas State's.  Or Boise State's.  Or TCU's or Baylor's facilities.

Good coaches tend to success in spite of things like lack of facilities.  Those things help, of course.  But if a guy has "it" he'll move his program forward, making it increasingly competitive over time.

Hey, it might work out, but I admit I'm worried.

And, as to Frost, that doesn't make sense.  Why would Frost join Riley when Riley runs a pro-style offense and Frost runs a dual-threat QB-type offense?  Their offensive philosophies seem incompatible to me.
