Discussion about big men and whether Leslee will return or not got me thinking about the possibility of adding a different juco big to be available next year and, with our improved stature since we signed Leslee, maybe getting in on one with a little more upside than Leslee had.

So, I looked at the NJCAA website for their current stat leaders and found an intriguing prospect ... except he's not a '15 recruit.  He'd be a 2016 recruit.

He's from England (apparently), was committed to Montana State for the '14 class, but didn't qualify and has now gone the juco route.  And for a juco freshman, he is KILLING it.

Kavell Bigby-Williams.  Averages 15 ppg, 12.2 bds and 3.5 blocks.  According to Verbal Commits, he's 6'10" and 215#.

And check the video ...

Edited:  I changed the thread title.  I don't know if we're after this kid.  I don't know if he would even be interested if we did go after him.  But if we're in the market for a 2016 juco, this one looks like a better prospect than the one we reportedly offered out of Australia by way of Sunrise Christian and then Hutch CC.

Plus he'd have a kick-ass accent to go along with the Aussie and the Kiwi.

Sign him up for the accent alone. :) I'm not sure of the level of competition in the video, but he seems to have great body control and agility for a big man. Sign him up!

The competition level probably sucked.  But he still drilled a 3 from the top of the key, picked a guard's pocket and dribbled down the court for a jam, showed great athleticism and intensity, and a reasonably decent skill set.

I'm thinking keep an eye on this kid and watch what happens to him.  Montana State was looking at having a pretty good player, there.  They have to be heartbroken he didn't qualify because the secret is going to be out now.

Well if we were to get this kid then we would need to lock down Harriman, because not only is he fluent in Australian, able to speak some New Zealander he might also know enough Of the Queens English so that we would not need to hire an interpreter for any or all of them.

I bet practice could be a problem with so many guys speaking so many different languages.

Totally agree, Norm. He looks legit!

I'd want to see his numbers after conference season starts.  You may not think it but there are plenty of Jucos out there the equivalent of the Maryland Eastern Shores, South Carolina States etc. that some teams beat up on really bad.  My old juco beat a team the other night 141-50.  That will inflate some numbers.

The games they've played have actually been close, or at least closer than that.  Their only loss was to Williston State (remember that name?) by 4.  Then they beat the MoDak All-Stars 124-113.  (Probably not a lot of defense in that game, huh?)  They beat Colorado Kings by 25.  So, yeah, I see what you mean, although against Williston in the loss, he had 16 pts and 17 rebounds.  And 5 blocks.  Not bad.

OK, just thinking out loud here.  I wonder if he could get all of his coursework completed by the end of August 2015 and graduate in time to have 3 years here?  Yeah, this is a long way off and a long shot in any number of ways.  Who knows if we're even in the market for the kid.  But those numbers are gaudy for a freshman.  And you can see his film for yourself.

OK, I just gotta come out and say it.  Let's compare this guy I just found with, oh, some other juco freshman from the 2016 class whom you might have heard of, and just compare their stats side-by-side.

Kavell Bigby-Williams:

24 min/game; 15 ppg; 12.2 rpg; 3.5 bpg; 69.4% FG; 50% FT

Keanu Pinder:

10.5 min/game; 2.8 ppg; 2.8 rpg; 1.25 bpg; 50% FG; 50% FT

So that's, like, pretty comparable, right?

Not to beat a dead horse.

I actually thought this discussion would get more play.  But ...

I'd really, REALLY be curious to know where the coaching staff stands on a kid like Pinder in light of what I've posted above.  Do they still have interest in him?

If they think we need a juco big in the class of 2016, how about this kid?

Norm's on top of things once again.  Now, I just can't decide if it would be better to make him our next OWH beat-writer or NU assistant coach. ;)

Which would give us the most access to practice?
