You know what I'd love to see them do, barnstorm for their exhibition. Go play Hastings College at the Viero Event Center in Kearney for the exhibition. I don' think they'd ever do it, but it'd be a heckuv an event and get a lot of people an opportunity to see this team that normally wouldn't.

why not play at the Heartland center in GI that would be a 25 min drive for me. And the Heartland event center is a better facility IMHO.

While Im sure that people have good reasons to suggest that Nebraska play in some of these smaller towns in Nebraska, I don't really even think that's an option. By the time next season rolls around, PBA will have only be opened for 1 year. The University and City are invested in this arena too greatly to play a game vs a legit opponent somewhere besides PBA. Also, consider all of the development/redevelopment in the West Haymarket area adjacent to PBA (restaurants, bars, hotels, retail shops, etc)...it would not be advantageous for the city/university from an economic standpoint to have those retail dollars go anywhere besides those newly located businesses near PBA...

Then there is the issue of ticket sales...There is a significant amount of money generated from ticket sales. Aside from PBA, no place in Nebraska (except the Century Link Center) could allow for ticket sales to 15,000+ fans, so the university would be losing money there. Then consider the fact that Lincoln and Omaha are the only 2 cities in Nebraska that have made enough investment in infrastructure to comfortably accommodate crowds of 15,000+ invading their city...(Consider hotels, restaurants, traffic, parking, etc).

As far as Nebraska playing a home game in Omaha...I don't like the idea. Again, while Im sure that people have good reasons for suggesting this, it doesn't really make alot of sense to play a "home game" in Omaha. (For many of the same reasons that I mentioned above, including the need to pump that revenue into Lincoln's Downtown/Haymarket area). Also, consider one of the most important factors in PBA is the atmosphere. Nebraska had the best home-winning record in the Big Ten this season...that was due, in part, to the atmosphere at the arena. A true homecourt advantage. It wouldn't make sense for Nebraska to give up that increadible advantage.

The only reason that I think Nebraska should play a "non-away" game anywhere other than PBA, would be if they were to play in a 4-team neutral site tournament. I actually think it would be a great idea to play in a 4-team neutral site tournament in Kansas City.

Maybe it could be with former Big12 north members...K-State, Colorado, Nebraska, and Mizzou (while adding Georgetown and Oregon to the home game schedule at PBA.

Or maybe it could be Georgetown, Oregon, Nebraska, and K-State (While adding Mizzou and Colorado to the home schedule at PBA).

Obviously, if Nebraska can get teams like Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, etc...to come to Lincoln, then they should jump on that opportunity, because the crowd would be electric. I just don't know if those teams would be willing to do that, simply due to the fact that Nebraska was able to be a 1 and done team in the NCAA Tourney this season. I think that it will take a couple more seasons of sustained success, before the blue bloods will want to schedule Nebraska...

...Although, one blueblood program that I think Nebraska may actually have a shot at is UCONN. After hearing their women's basketball coach talk to the media and praise the environment at PBA, I'm sure he would be all for it. Plus, UCONN doesnt have conference affiliation with the oldBigEast anymore, so in order to help their rpi, scheduling a game vs a Big Ten team (that will likely be predicted to finish anywhere from 3rd to 5th in the conference) might be an attractive option for them. Maybe Nebraska men and women can both set up a home and home vs UCONN. One playing home and the other playing away...then switching off next season. Nebrasketball vs UCONN in PBA the season that UCONN is defending national champs...PBA would be electric and the Railyard would be similar fo what it was for the Wisconsin game. Just a thought...

I don't really care as long as we play all of our allotted games this year. I think we will be good enough not to lose some if those bad losses. We don't need a hard non con as we already have those scheduled. Cincy, the diamond head, the acc team will be good. Just no putrid teams.

Don't play "home" games in Omaha.  That is not fair to season ticket holders.

If it brings in the right opponent, I think it's a smart move.

It counts as a neutral court game in the RPI, puts the game on national tv, and helps to get money/fans in Omaha.

Loved the Oregon vs Nebraska at the downtown Omaha arena in '07... a 4-team tourney there w/ Creighton hosting Iowa in the afternoon and Nebraska hosting Iowa State at night would be a cool event.

Because I was familiar with the arena in Kearney and didn't see anything in Hastings. Doesn't really matter where it's played, I just think it'd be a cool idea to take the team and play a game or two out west for the fans that might not get to see them often. Doesn't really matter where it's played. I know the volleyball team has done a similar type of thing in the past.

It might not be, but for an exhibition game, I don't think much would be lost. I'm not suggesting they hold a regular season game in one of those places.

This. I don't know the statistic on college basketball, but I can tell you that MLB teams make about 70% of their revenue purely from ticket sales.

That's not actually true anymore. Most teams now are making most of their money on their media rights than anywhere else. There are exceptions, but almost nobody is making 70% of their revenue off of gate receipts according to this.

I think an exhibition game out west would have more of a long term benefit than any short term losses in revenue.

FYI: Hastings College has a fairly-new (10-12 yrs?) Osborne Family Sports Complex that includes a 3000 seat top-down Arena.... it's pretty nice for an NAIA program.

Farrell arena was opened in 2001 and is top notch, other than only having one big score board on the south end of the arena and a sound system that sucks big time.

That looks like a pretty sweet place to watch a game. I'm not sure if you'd want to get into the place in Kearney that's quite a bit bigger to try and get more people in or if you want to go play there, but it'd be a cool deal either way, I think.

Living in Grand Island and being involved in the Grand Island Sports Council we'd love to do this, but I don't think opportunity would ever come up. We do feel we have decent opportunities for a women's game as well as a spring volleyball exhibition. That's about it. I think the program would be silly to give up 5,000 tickets to play in Grand Island. We have been quite please with the Heartland Hoops Classic; y'all should come watch next year.

guys, you don't build an arena that half the NBA teams would drool over just so you can play a home game somewhere else.

i had a couple thoughts on the schedule.  i wouldn't mind playing colorado state in a 2 for 1 series.  their rpi the last 3-4 years has been pretty solid.  might be awkward for miles, but why not?  much better than the citadel *pukes*

also would like to play some teams like wichita state, slu, iowa state, ksu, oklahoma, etc.  there's enough of them that at least a few wouldn't mind starting a series.  why not arkansas?  they're fairly close and we play them every year in baseball -- it's not like it's a different phone number for their athletic department (admittedly that's the dave van horn connection for arkansas baseball but still... our schools don't exactly not play unlike some of the big 12 schools who just won't schedule us).

new mexico isn't much further away than arkansas and they're solid.

dunno... i came up with about 20 schools off the top of my head (admittedly some who were in the big 12) that have decent programs and are fairly close (none of whom are in texas).  i guess i just don't see why we have to settle for about half the teams we scheduled OOC this year and the last several... there's even a few more (not in those 20) that would play 2 for 1 if you called them and asked (not all, but some would).

there's no excuse to play the citadel.  there just isn't.  UNO is leaps and bounds ahead of the citadel (and about 110 RPI spots) and they're 70 miles away -- and i have zero desire to play UNO.

It's hard to find schools who would travel to play on December 21st. Having UNO or a Summit League team would probably be better RPI wise though.

Not a lot of earth shattering news here, but Miles is taking over the scheduling from his departed operations guy (Jayden Olsen) and is looking to add a high-major home game next year as part of a new home-and-home series.

I wonder if it's of the Kentucky/Duke caliber? Remember when we tried scheduling a road game with Duke and schedules just didn't line up? I'd imagine it will be a lot easier to get a call returned from some of these teams now.
