Who needs stinking statistics anyway. I play blackjack by doubling my next bet each time I lose. That works really great (unless I run out of money first). And speaking of gambling, what is the present spread on tomorrow's game?

And, just going by statistical probabilities, Ohio State has an obscene win/loss record in the last few Big Ten tournaments. They are long overdue for a loss.

That isn't how statistical probabilities work. Winning in their past outcomes does not increase the probability of a loss in the next game.

If you flip a coin 10 times and each time it is heads, there is still a 50/50 chance that the next flip is heads. The next flip is independent of prior flips.

Maybe not to YOU, a math guy.

But to ME, an average Joe, I look at it like this:

Winning streaks are difficult to sustain.  Longer ones happen less often than shorter ones for that very reason.  And REALLY long ones are quite rare.  The longer a winning streak lasts, the more likely it ends the next game.  So, even though you're probably technically right, there still have to be odds against a sustained streak.  What's the likelihood of flipping a coin heads 10 times in a row?  Probably not very high.  So, if you flip heads 9 times, I'll probably bet tails on the 10th.

Their success in conference tournaments over the last several years is disproportionate to their performance otherwise.  They're due for a loss and we're just the team to give it to them.

Just don't say "going by statistical probabilities, they are long overdue for a loss" and I wouldn't have taken any issue :D  Once I saw that I couldn't let it slide.

By the way, Ohio State is 12-1 in their last 13 Big Ten tournament games.

I still say they're due for a loss and it's happening tomorrow.

I say the loss is happening tomorrow and it's because we are the better team, not because Ohio State has won 12 of their last 13 Big Ten tournament games.

This. We are playing really good basketball and will win this game based on merit.

I'm rooting for PSU. It might get them under 100 and knock off one of our bad losses.

Good point.  But what if it knocks Minnesota out of the top 50 and we lose a top 50 win? Ahh!

But it also knocks Minnesota out of the tournament...

I want Minnesota in the tournament.  We are in the tournament, we are just playing for seeding at this point.  I want our resume to look the best that it can.

You can look at it both ways. At the time, Minnesota was 51 in RPI before the tournament, PSU was 108. Maybe, by just playing PSU can jump a few spots. The best of both worlds.

I was surprised in the OSU post-game player comments how much they knew about Nebraska's individual players and what they've been doing of late. I want to say Craft even referred to Parker getting more playing time of late. Even though we played OSU twice, it's been a long time since they would have seen a scouting report, yet they seemed to know quite a bit off the top of their heads.

That's either a group of OSU players that has been really watching other B1G games over the last half of the conference slate, so they learned a lot watching TV ... or they spent all week getting ready for Friday's OSU-NU game, which could explain what happened today vs Purdue.  :P

After watching that ballgame & reading these comments, I'm leaning toward the latter. OSU looked past Purdue toward Nebrasketball.... my, how roles have reversed from a season ago, last year NU survived against Purdue only to meet up with a higher-seeded OSU who had the benefit of resting their way into the quarterfinals!

It's going to be a tough game.  I think we can do this, but it's going to be a war.

Good news is everyone there except the OSU fans will be rooting for us.... that should help..

Concur on all points. There will be battle scars - likely a lot of 'em... the question will be how might the refs call the game. That will be a huuuge factor!

I'm looking forward to seeing how many NU fans are in the stands on Friday.

Has there been any buzz about how well the fans will travel?

Haven't heard anything, really.  I see red in the stands tonight but guessing it's mostly Indiana fans.

Or Purdue fans who stabbed themselves repeatedly to put themselves out of their misery...
