Considering the push we've made this year and the way we've blown away all expectations that virtually anyone outside of our fan base had for us at the beginning of the year, I'd assume we're in a better recruiting position vis-a-vis the class of 2015 HS recruits than we were with 2014 recruits.

So, the question is this:  Considering we might have 2-3 spots to offer this spring ...

Would you rather see what uncommitted HS kids remain available for the spring signing period?

Go hard after a probably better choice of jucos than might have looked at us a year ago?

Or scramble to fill whatever remaining open spots exist at the end of this year with graduate transfer types, saving more spots to offer to 2015 HS recruits to sign in November?

If some combination of the above, explain.

Tarin Smith

Senior transfer(s)

regular transfers like a Terran or Walt that sits a year but helps with scout team and the future going forward.

possibly a juco transfer in the right situation like a redshirt year or 3 for 3 guy.

The top 3 things are what i'd want and I'd like to see happen.  I dont mind the order in which they happen but thats how I see things.

Kamdy, would you feel like you'd want any certain number of spots held for '15 and therefore given to a grad transfer if we can find one?  I mean, would you prioritize trying to find a 1-year player so that the spot could be offered again right away in November?

They always say strike while the iron is hot.  The iron might not get much hotter than it should be this fall.  I feel like we were already on the cusp of getting some good players.  We had visits from people like Elbert Robinson and just couldn't quite close the deal.  The season we've had might change that dynamic, move the needle just enough, that we close on those upper tier players who only maybe visited us in the past.

So, to me, if we wind up with an extra spot, I don't want to use it on a project or a bottom-of-the-barrel leftover (sorry to put it like that.)  I don't want this Link kid because I think we can find a graduate transfer to fill the spot for a year now and then have a much better selection of available targets next fall.

So, I'm OK with Tarin Smith, though I admittedly am just trusting Coach Miles on that one.  Beyond that, I'd like to see if we can supplement the roster with a senior transfer or two to fill those positions of greatest need and then start a youth movement next fall.

That's what I think.

I hate holding spots, especially since they've already withheld one each of the last two cycles.  At some point you cant keep hurting yourself.  I do feel if they held one this year that next year would finally be the year they use them.  Thats my though though as I dont holding over in baseball or basketball due to the limited numbers.

Kamdy, I was thinking along the same lines as you. If we could get a legitimate big via senior transfer that would be the best case scenario. Somebody who could get you 10 points and 8 rebounds, but bigger and more of an offensive threat than Leslie.

As for JUCO's, a 3 for 3 wing who could play the 2 or 3, who could knock down jump shots may be worth it.

I am trusting Coach Miles about Tarrin Smith as well. Could there be a Dickerson-like JUCO or a Sophomore to-be transfer out there somewhere?

After that, load up on mostly incoming freshmen.

Not suggesting leaving a spot open.  Hope I didn't confuse.  I'm talking about aggressively seeking out potential senior transfers (obviously not breaking rules and trying to recruit from someone else's roster, but instead making it known we're in the market.)  For every senior transfer we bring in next year, it's another 2015 spot we'll have available to sign someone in November.  Fortunately, we're in a position where we don't have major holes to plug so we might be able to take a chance on a kid we might otherwise pass on if he's a senior transfer who has a tool to add to the mix:  A great shooter, for instance, or a big who's athletic and a great rebounder and defender even if not a great scorer.

I really trust Tim and the staff.  Having said that one thing that could be very hard to do with this team is get the right guys to fit in.  This team seems to have termendous chemistry and will most likely have that for the next 3 years.

We will need to get players that don"t upset that, it would be a great time to be a High School senior with some talent that is willing to come in and learn how to play and act in college.

We still need to find some minutes for both Hawkins and Fuller next year and we only lose Ray.  However I think that they can make it early in the year so that the starters don't get wore out.

It will be the greatest of times the next few years.  i am REALLY going to enjoy this ride.

I think you can only take one senior transfer at this time due to limited playing time available next year.  As mentioned with SB there are other guys that will fill in spots in the lineup when you only lose one guy.  Unless you can find guys willing to be 6th-8th men coming off the bench for their final year it may be tough.

I like Smith the PG.

I want a senior transfer if it's a guy who can upgrade the 5 spot. Especially defensively.

For 2015.

I don't boot Serj unless it's a can't miss guy or a sophomore transfer.

I think that could be a 2015 hold over. I think 2015 will be Nebraska's best class ever.

Really, if we can find the right guys, we have room for 2 starters.  We need a guard who can score and defend to replace (or hopefully improve upon) Ray, and we need a big who can rebound and defend.   Either or both spots could potentially start if you found a decent enough player.

And, personally, not trying to knock the kid, but I'd personally rather get a transfer who has to sit out a year as opposed to having Sergej riding the bench instead.  If someone is going to be taking up a spot without playing, seems to me it's better if that person has some hope of seeing the floor the season after next.

As between any random transfer and Sergej, neither will likely play next year, the former because of transfer rules and the latter because of inherent limitations.  But, like I said, if we're going to have a kid sitting on the bench next year not playing, I'd rather it was because he was transferring in and not because he didn't transfer out.

Oh I agree.  Thats why I had a regular transfer in my top 3 options.  I was looking at that specific question I responded to for senior transfers only to free up the spots for 2015.  I think its tough though with senior transfers as they are hard to get in the first place, let alone trying to find 2 that are B1G capable starters.  Thats why I think it'd be tough to find a couple and said only one unless they are ok with being bench players.

anyone wonder how happy Akoy is?

Depends on any players they may get to transfer in or high school prospects. As of now assuming they don't get a PF in for next year he looks to get a lot more minutes next year.

In Louisville's last game, an 81 to 48 victory over Connecticut, Akoy played only 2 minutes. However, on the possibility of Akoy transferring to Lincoln, Robin Washut says, "Not going to happen."

We've had this argument before, and I certainly - in part - see your point.  But I have to think (hope) that we can leverage the recent success into a bigger haul for 2015.

We have 2, maybe 3 open for 2014 and another 2 open for 2015.  I agree we have to sign one more this year from what's available from the pile of leftovers. Maybe we can get another filled with a transfer.  But I don't mind at all if they keep 1 open in the hopes of signing 3 quality 4-star types, not 2, for the fall signing period.  We've got the nation's attention right now and we ought to cultivate that improved image while it is fresh in recruit's minds.
