Or how about this article from a couple days earlier:

"With his team laboring through the first half of today’s clash with Blair Academy at the Dan Finn Classic, St. Anthony coach Bob Hurley turned to the two most reliable pieces of this year’s version of the Friars. Defense and senior guard Tarin Smith.

While the rest of his teammates struggled to find their stroke at the Jersey City Armory in a 45-38 victory over Blair, it was Smith who drove the Friars offensively in the opening 16 minutes, scoring eight of St. Anthony’s 19 first-half points.

“As (Tarin) goes, we go,” Hurley said of the 6-goot-2 guard. “On this particular team, we need him to be able to lead when guys are a little nervous or having a hard time getting into the flow of the game.”

The only returning starter from last year’s St. Anthony squad, Smith has been eager to justify his coach’s reliance on him this season, especially against teams like Blair (10-2) – an opponent that he dropped a game-high 15 points on.

“Even before the game started, I knew I had to stay aggressive and make plays for my team,” said Smith, who was honored after the game as St. Anthony’s Most Valuable Player. “We have a talented team, but we’re young so we get a little flustered and stuff at times. It’s my job to get the ball and just keep everybody fluid.”

To make up for a lack of production on offense, Smith and the Friars (9-1) literally took charge on the other end of the floor, jumping out to a 14-2 lead to start the game. Their defensive efforts helped force Marquette-bound Marial Shayok and St. Louis-bound Brett Jolly to the bench with foul trouble."

I'm not sure if this was tweeted somewhere or if I just missed it in the thread, but I think they're going to go see Smith play a game.

An offer would indicate they think he's B1G material.  Would it also mean they think they're out on Dickerson?

They could give a contingency offer.  That if prospect A. Dickerson, doesnt choose us the offer is committable.

If they give a contingency...how does that get reported by recruitniks....as an offer, as a contingency, or as no offer?

Probably the same as the David Wacker offer.  Its an offer but not one you could commit to at the moment.

Not sure if they would offer yet. IF they are interested you could see a visit. Not all visitors have offers. We really need to see how the season shakes out to see the number we will have available, etc.

Tarin scored 13 points and Coach Hurley notched his 1100th career victory.

“We really wanted to emphasize defense today and come out and play strong so we could send a message and show that we’re here to play,” said senior guard Tarin Smith. “Our defense fell off a little bit in the third quarter, which I wasn’t happy about, but we picked it back up to end the game.

I truly believe Tarin could be that PG other teams hate after 4 years of seeing him. That Aaron Craft, Steve Wojo, Greg Paulus etc. Smart, veteran leadership, gritty type guy you want running the ship.

Would be nice to have one of those guys

Dare I say a throw back Duke type point?

More interesting quotes from Coach Hurley:

“I think he’s paid his dues,” Hurley said. “I think he can run a college team and it’s up to those guys to figure out at what level. By his recruiting, he’s at least being recruited by the Atlantic 10 level which is not too far off anything else. If teams from the Atlantic 10 are recruiting you then you’re close to being capable of playing in most leagues.”

Mike Brey was also at the game last night, but did not offer Tarin.

New Game Film.  Tarin is #10 in white

Watching that game film has me confused on this offer. Miles appears to place emphasis on explosive athletes that can play aggressive defense and create their own offense by either driving to the hole or beating a guy off the dribble and dishing.

I am not seeing an above average athlete in the two game films posted in this thread. I have no doubt he is a top shelf person and could fit the right program, but I guess I expected a different level of talent in a Miles targeted point guard. Watch Dickerson's film for comparison and he is the type of guy that would be great in our offense.

Dickerson also has a year of prep school and Juco year on Smith.  Smith plays way more uptempo on his AAU team than he does with his HS team.  His HS team focuses more on the defensive end than the offensive.

Maybe because that's the OTHER Tarin Smith from the OTHER Jersey City St. Anthony's.

Or ... maybe not.

Well, you know what Miles says about highlight films.  He'd rather watch actual game film because ANYONE can put together a good highlight film.

Except if they can't.

And that one ...

Really?  They called that a highlight video?
