... we are guaranteed to finish no worse than tied for 6th place in conference.

And, for at least a moment, we'd be in a tie with Ohio State for 4th place.

Think about that a second.  None of the 6 teams below us can jump over us.  They all have at least 9 losses in conference.  They cannot get beyond 9 wins.

And, by winning tomorrow, we reach 9 wins and are assured of no worse than a .500 finish in conference play.

When was the last time we won at least half of our conference games and finished in the top half of the conference standings?

Long damn time ago.

My internet doesn't go back that far.

Didn't that happen in Doc's third year?

Or did they not finish top half of the Big XII then?

8-8 was good for 8th in Big 12...

Also recall the 10 - 6 season with Hamilton was coming off are last NCAA berth, not a season when we were picked to finish dead last for the 3rd year in a row. Let that sink in, and savor it...

Doc finished 4-14 in the B1G while Tim came in 10th at 5-13 last yr & now, possibly end up as high as 3rd at 11-7 this yr~ Quite the dramatic transformation, even if the 3rd or 4th place finish doesn't come to pass!

Does anyone know the names of the alumni players who will be there today? I have read 50 or so are expected but Hoppen, Strickland, Al Maxey, Pike, Jake M., Tony W. and Matt D. are the only ones I can guess off the top of my head.

What's the name of the former player with the giant white afro who come back every year?

Strickland won't be there. I thought I saw him tweet that his team has a game.

Last time Nebraska finished in top half of the league was a 6th place finish at 7-9 in 2005-06 in Collier's last year (w/ four teams tied at 6-10 behind NU):  http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/standings/_/year/2006

Whats up with Baylor only playing 17 games that year?

They only were allowed to play conference games.  The other loss was in the Big 12 tournament
