Preseason Football rankings Question

Does anyone think minnesota should be ranked ahead of us to start the season nxt yr?  They did beat us head to head and have more guys back?  But we are projected top 25 again and they are not even projected to be ranked , doesn't make any sense.   My point is in football we have the " benefit of the doubt" factor.  We deserve it, we've earned it ,  its technically not fair, but thats just how it is in sports.

 

 

It's the same reason why minnesota currently has the upperhand on us to the dance this yr,  we beat em head to head, were playing better, we are better, buttttttttt........we started from the bottom and they didn't.  Thats just the way it is.  We have to have significantly better resumes than these teams who have the "benefit of doubt" factor on their side or were going to get left out, and its not fair, but again we reap the same benefit in the football rankings and bowl selections every yr.

Similar. But different.  They did a line change following last season just like we did.  They have a new coach.  They just play in an old building.

 

The reason Minnie might be ahead of us now has less to do with what they did last year and more to do with what they did (and what we didn't do) earlier this year.  I think they were 11-2 in the non-con?  With a better non-con SOS.  And we started conference play out 0-4 so we dug ourselves a hole that we're having to climb out of. 

 

That's the reason we are where we are vis-à-vis Minnie.  Has nothing to do with where each team finished the season last year.  Really.

I'm assuming this will eventually get moved to the Fall Sports section.....

 

The quick answer is no, they won't be favored over Nebraska.  Wisconsin will be the favorite to win the new Big Ten West Division and Nebraska likely second followed by Iowa and then Minnesota.  Nebraska should have a good shot at winning the division, but Wisconsin will be tough.

I did read it the first time and I still have no comment on it. There's still a lot of season left and next year's rankings are one of the least things I'm concerned about.

Sorry Miles Davis, I didn't realize this started out other than on the Fall Sports section; shouldn't have down-arrow you; someone can up arrow to balance. 

 

As for OP, no, Minnesota shouldn't be ranked ahead of us on football.  They had a defensive tackle who will be a first round draft choice.  They overachieved last year, and caught us at a perfect time.  We have more returning talent and experience.  So for preseason 2014, we should easily be ranked ahead of Minnesota, and no one is getting screwed.
