Hooper Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Kingsley Okoroh, 7-1, 245 Phoenix, Arizona Westwind Prep International AAU: Las Vegas Prospects Great update by Robin Washut saying that Okoroh (a UK native) is very interested in Nebraska and will visit after his season. His HC at Westwind is Jai Steadman, who was a student manager at NU under Danny Nee. Steadman seems to really be pushing him toward Nebraska. Craig Smith went to see him a couple of weeks ago and extended an offer. The kid averaged 10 blocked shots per game in a stretch recently but is not a potent scorer yet. This could be a very nice consolation prize for losing out on Robinson. HB and doc1394 2 Quote
The Polish Rifle Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Huge shot blocker.....Coach says averages 10 points 8 boards 7 blocks a gam (roughly).....gaining huge high mid major interest currently.....stock is sky rocketing........current coach contacted Nebraska becasue he went here and was a student manager for Danny Nee, and his dad currently teaches here Quote
Husker Bone Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Highschool coach was a student manager for Nebraska during Nee's tenure and his father is a UNL professor. Coach wants him at Nebraska and said "I was there for Derrick Chandler, Mikki Moore and Venson Hamilton, and he's got a little bit of each of them in him. Offers from Arizona, Miami, Clemson, Gonzaga, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas Tech as well as Nebraska, and that list should only continue to grow. Came from England at age of 16. 7'1, 250 pounds. In 15 of 24 games he's had 10 or more blocks. Quote
hhcmatt Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Seems like a big man lottery ticket...the kind of guy who can be a defensive presence inside and if we're lucky becomes competent on offense....sort of the opposite of Serge Quote
The Coach Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Interesting. If we do sign him I hope we also pick up a JUCO big guy too. We need an immediate contributor in the post next year, and I think this guy and Hammond will take a couple of years to develop into Big Ten caliber players. Quote
lanigan123 Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 This sounds like the guy Nebraska needs. A guy who can change the game. A true shot blocker and rebounder to pound in the B1G. Nebraska doesn't need to score major points on the block, but a guy who can board and change the lane on D and guard a Mcgary type.We have guards who can get him easier shots. I like it. Quote

TheKamdyMan Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 honestly this is the guy Miles talked about the other night on the radio. You cannot have 5 "scorers" on the floor at the same time because there isnt enough balls to go around. You need role players mixed in to complement the other players on the floor. I'd be more than happy with a defensive stalwart in the middle that doesnt score much but loads up the other stats needed to win. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pnO6qWukWM he's #12 and his highlights are random but really start around the 1:10 mark and beyond. Shows some decent skills. Hooper and doc1394 2 Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmQLf_raKjQ starting after the 1:15 mark he has the #10, 9, 8, and 6 plays of the top 10. Quote
Hooper Posted November 20, 2013 Author Report Posted November 20, 2013 I agree Kamdy. I had similar thoughts when I read the update. This team is actually pretty well set up with scorers for the next 2-3 years. We need more role players who are willing to do the dirty work. I suppose Matthew Atewe fit that profile, but this guy comes with far better size. Having watched Frank Kaminsky absolutely dominate North Dakota last night for 43, it's clear that, in the B1G, you've got to be able to put a presence in the paint who can box out and rebound against guys like Payne, Kaminsky, Woodbury, Alex Olah, etc. I'd hate to see this Husker team without Leslee Smith, but we need a lot more help. Silverbacked1 Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Okay I'll say it before some body else does. I love gulping down Husker flavored schnapps!!! Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Take in mind this is from 2011 so hes definitely changed and grown some. This is from the jordan brand classic with the best of the international players from the born in 1995 class. Starts at 3:35 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfkagJ6YFR8 Quote
FredsSlacks Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Seems like he would be a steal, but seems kind of raw. like a taller version of Atewe. Quote
Hooper Posted November 20, 2013 Author Report Posted November 20, 2013 That dribble-drive at the 4:05 mark in the 2011 video is something we never saw in any of Atewe's highlights. Quote
The Polish Rifle Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Seems like he would be a steal, but seems kind of raw. like a taller version of Atewe. He is raw on the offense end, but already has a B1G body (pun intended) and is a great defensive player. Offense will need to be devolped. But as other are saying in this thread we dont need scorers. We need bodies that can bang underneath and protect the basket. Quote

Norm Peterson Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Teach him the electric slide. If he can learn that, he can learn to post up, no problem. Dean Smith, get on him. (It is simply a matter of practice and determination. It's not magic. I'm tellin' ya.) Quote
Hooper Posted November 21, 2013 Author Report Posted November 21, 2013 This scouting report from Draftxpress doesn't sound very promising in terms of his athletic ability. Kingsley Okoroh, 7-1, Center, Team England, England, 1995by Jonathan GivonyStrengths:-Has tremendous size at a legit 7-0 plus, with a strong frame and an extremely long wingspan-Excellent potential defensively with his size, length and decent shot-blocking instincts-Very good offensive rebounderWeaknesses:-Average athlete. Lacks explosiveness in a major way-Struggles to finish in traffic-Very limited offensive player-No real post game-Struggles from the free throw line (33% at NIJT)-Lacks significant experienceOutlook: Possesses a rare combination of size, length and strength, but doesn't have any real idea how to use it at the moment. Lacks the athleticism to be considered a top-shelf center prospect, but could develop into something interesting with patient work and good coaching down the road. From DraftExpress.com: http://www.draftexpress.com#ixzz2lEXQqc2C Quote

From DraftExpress.com: http://www.draftexpress.com#ixzz2lEXQqc2C You have to take DE for what it is though, they only scout players based on their pro prospects. They are not a college scouting service. Everything they listed is exactly what everyone has stated previously. He lacks offense but is big and can play defense. He doesnt project to be a good pro obviously but how many guys are decent to good college players that dont go pro, a good majority. Quote
Fullbacksympathy Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 7'1" and likes to play defense and rebound. Can't miss. Even if he isn't great, that's a hell of a backup for Hammond, and an option to go HUGE. Imagine that: TW - 6'4" SS - 6'7" WP - 6'10" JH - 6'11" KO - 7'1" Not that this would be our go-to lineup, but to have the option would be crazy in the BIG. Quote
2tall Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 Doesn't appear to be lead footed in the videos posted. Seems smooth enough. An average of 7 blocks a game shows at least some sort of athletic ability. Put him in the weight room and coach him up. hhcmatt 1 Quote
