I am surprised that Fuller is listed at 6'6".  If you look at the team photo, he is standing right next to Petteway, who is also listed at 6'6" and Fuller looks at least one full inch taller, maybe more.  Heck, Fuller even looks taller than Rivers in that picture.  Maybe he was on his tip-toes.

I have a feeling he'll be 6'7 next year. He is very young for his grade.

That's what I was going to say.

He landed hard on his buttocks.  That kind of thing can lead to nagging injuries.  He is going to be sore tomorrow.  I hope they have him sitting in an ice bath tonight.  Hopefully, he's not out of practice for more than a few days.  But after that fall,  suspect he's not going to be practicing for at least a couple days anyway.  Ouch.  Ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch.  Looked like it really hurt.

Nice. We will take all the extra inches we can get!

That's what she said. :P

Wow I had to wait a long time for that. I figured somebody would snap back with that within a few minutes.

I think he's now big and strong enough to play power forward for us.

Nooooooooooo. Nooooo. Noo. No. Nuh-uh.

I'm in favor of putting guys into positions they would have at the next level. To give Shavon the best shot of making it to the league, we need him at the 2 (would be my preference) or the 3. He won't get nearly as many looks from pro scouts as a 6'7" PF.

Because really, there's no better recruiting tool than to say "See that guy? He came here as a three star and now he's playing in the NBA."

KInd of a ying and yang thing Chester.  First, to clarify, I do not think Shavon should be in the four position...perhaps once in a while to create match up problems, but certainly not on a regular basis.  In my mind Shavon is a three.  He lacks a little lateral quickness and would be exposed, at least for now trying to defend the two.  However, his size could offset the lack of quickness.

But back to your point Chester.  I can clearly understand where you are coming from regarding playing him in a position that he may play if he gets to the NBA.  Yet, do you not have to do what best fits this team in order to have the highest potential for success?  If the team does better, isn't it likely that the player will get longer looks?

I do believe Shavon will be a flex-type player.  He will play multiple roles on this team because of his BB smarts.  Ultimately I think that is good for Shavon as he will gain comfort and confidence no matter where he lines up...

Well, the skillset that Shavon displayed last year fits mostly in the mold of a 4.  He'd have to develop a lot more quickness and explosiveness to effectively guard opposing 2s and 3s.  His size is more 3, his game is more 4.  He's effective because of a very high if not extremely high hoops IQ and a massive heart.  It'll be interesting to see if he can effectively guard the 3.  Try him at the 3 and make sure he can handle that before we try him at the 2.

Edited to add:  Yeah, kinda what CWG said.

+1

I totally agree with Norm on this one.  At the D1 level, as well as the next one, position is almost always dictated by what position a player can consistently defend without help.  With the exception of requiring PG/SG be able to handle the ball under heavy man pressure, offensive skill-set rarely dictates position by itself.

I think the important thing is he didn't break his hip on that fall to curse the new arena.

I'm not saying his best position is the 4, but we may need him there. He's our biggest small forward.

I said this once, but I don't think Smith and Pitchford can be on the court together often because that leaves us with no real post players on the bench. I doubt Sergej plays much at all.

We find that post season play really helps draft stock.

Sincerely,

Trey Burke and Mitch McGary

paul pierce, who is comparable to Shavon...played the 2,3,and 4 in the league last season...btw comparable in size, and herky jerky movement not skills.
