PG  -- Tai Webster

SG  -- Ray Gallegos

SF  -- Terran Petteway

PF  -- Shavon Shields

C   -- Walter Pitchford

Subject to change.  Keep an eye on the voting.

Good news is that from what I know and what I think I know, that's a pretty solid starting five.  And a couple of very decent players yet to come off the bench as well.

Better news is that lineup consists of one senior, three sophomores and one freshman.

I sure would think this group could produce a better overall and conference record than last year's team.  And if that's the case, with its obvious youth, this is a hell of a nice way to start a new coaching era.  You don't get to year three and think, "now what the hell do I do?"  Year three should return 4 starters from a group that was better than year 1.  And year 4 should return 4 starters from a group that was better than year 2.

Remember that poll about trajectory?

Man, this excites me. Actually being able to debate who the starters will be is way better than "Hey! You five with uniforms, get in there!" And that's what we've had the last few years. Guys who started by default because there were no other options. Not only will we be returning potential starters over the next two years but there will be legitimate competition in the backup roles. Substitutions no longer mean just surviving a stretch of time because the reserves can play ball too!

This season we get to really watch Miles coach and see what he can do. Multiple lineups. Multiple multiple-position players. Hopefully it all results in a multitude of wins!

I went with upperclassmen and size, primarily.  With the exception of Shields (but he's gonna start, I mean who doesn't like the Shields kid).

My starting lineup is:

PG - Biggs

SG - Ray

SF - Shields

PF - Walter

C - Smith

Of course, this is to start off the season with, but I forsee lots of shakeups in the starting lineups during the non-con depending on how the new guys develop.

Norm, I'm a little disappointed you didn't have Peltz listed as a voting option, though.  You can't deny the #nebrasketbro!

DAMMIT!  I wanted to delete that post!  :D

Upon further reflection, I don't think I'm gonna be anywhere close.  Point stands though.  I think we're placing too much emphasis on the new kids.  As talented as they may be, I think it's still gonna take time for them to get up to speed.

Well, we've gotten a little messed up in the voting.

Apparently, Petteway doesn't start at all.  And Shields starts at two different positions.

Webster is the runaway winner to start at point.  Gallegos the runaway winner to start at the off-guard.

Then, Shields is gonna cover both the 3 and the 4 (49r REALLY loves the Shields kid now.)

And Pitchford, who backs up Shields at the 4, will start at the 5.

He also mixes drinks at halftime and runs the video board.

Webster

Gallegos

Petteway

Shields

Smith

Miles likes players who play multiple spots & that would be Petteway & Shields. Webster & Gallegos seem to be the favs at the 1 & 2.  I'd imagine that Pitchford will get starter's minutes, but the question was who "starts" the ballgame most often and Smith seems more likely to guard a center at the opening tip.

that lineup is kind of miami heatish. Plenty of talent, but no real post players.

That seemed to work just fine for the Heat.

When was the last time Nebraska had a real post player ?  Was it Doc's first year ?

Depends on whether or not you consider Diaz or Ubel "real post players".

I don't think neither one of them were post players.

I don't know what criteria you are using but we aren't discussing ability level just whether they are post players. Diaz was a post in the classical sense of the 1980's pre European influence.

I personally am basing it on just position not ability. I guess the classic post player has gone by the wayside ie Back to the basket player. I can see where Diaz was a post player, But he didn't like mixing it up much as a post, He would rather had played outside and been happy. This is going to sound a bit off the wall and you can call me crazy to compare them but Chubick was more of a post player than Diaz was. In that Chubick did a lot of dirty work inside that I think post players need to do to make the team better. Hope that made sense :)

I don't think Miles's offense is really designed around the post anyways. His last team at CSU had a center that was 6'5, so I think the lineup that Norm has constructed would fit in pretty well with what Miles wants.

that was miles last game at CSU. C and PF were 6'5 and 6'6. I think it's possible we already have more talent than that team.

I get what you're saying but that's style not position. Diaz offensively was most comfortable receiving the ball on the right block with his back to the basket. He didn't really power drop step but would drop & had a nice face move & jump hook, vastly preferring that over receiving the ball 15 feet out & facing the basket. (Ubel).

Chubick was what they called a garbage player. That was Kurt Rambis' job not Kareem's. But Kareem was the real post player.

I just put Petteway back at the top for the 3 so Shavon doesn't get burnt out.
