I don't want my public school officials talking about religion.

But seriously, I think it is a positive that both Miles and Pelini are Catholic and want their kids in Catholic Schools because Nebraska is very catholic.

And we like our alcohol.

Not sure I understand what the problem is.  Choosing nothing is still a choice.  Barring public officials from talking about religion basically endorses the absence of religion.  And that certainly wasn't the founders' intent.

You'll notice also he wasn't wearing red.

And one more observation:  If he has success here, the fact that he sees Lincoln as a particularly good place to raise his kids might encourage him to remain and not jump at the next bigger job that comes along.

Norm your last point is the key thing here.  I don't care what religion he professes to be or if he practices it.  My biggest concern with Miles is IF he is successful he likes Lincoln enough to stay.  We had that view of Lincoln with Doc but alas.

As a baptized Lutheran who is no longer practicing, I could care less if he worships two sticks he found in his back yard. Just be a good person, a good example for the community and a good coach and teacher to the young men he brings into the program.

Oh and win.

This has nothing to do with this thread, but as I scroll to the bottom I am encouraged to watch a video of Semi Ojeleye on You Tube. Why? Semi is a player who lives in Ottawa which is a 30 minute drive from Lawrence and about the size of Beatrice. He decided to go to Duke after his junior year and although he excelled in high school, as he would have dominated the competition if he had played at Beatrice, Self never made much of a push to get him to KU. He sort of reminds me of Agau and I'll be curious to see what happens to him at Duke. But I don't want to watch him on YouTube.

 A "Branch" Davidian?

Damn, Cip, you are on a roll.  Well-played!

Norm my first line was a joke.  Sorry it I didn't use the sarcasm denotation next to it.  Miles pokes fun at Catholicism all the time.

My real point was simply that Nebraska is a good fit for coaches who are catholic and/or religious.

The Lincoln Diocese is recognized nationally as one of the most orthodox diocese in the U. S.  I’ve heard of Church officials in Rome, when asked what the best place is to go in the United States where the diocese is most in line with Roman Catholic teaching, and their first answer will be Lincoln, NE.

I know the larger point here is that Nebraskans of all faiths are worshipping and going to church, more so than in a lot of other places in the country, and to him that is special.

And so yes, it is encouraging to know that he at least recognizes that this is a special place, and hopefully is an important consideration when the subject of “job openings” comes up.
