uneblinstu Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 These are basically my seats except from the other side. I walked through the open house today and ran into Norm. We walked around a while. tried to sneak into the locker room but they had that locked down pretty good and wouldn't let anyone in without a tour guide. It's not going to be as intimate as the Devaney Center was, but it will be more intimate than the CLink, somewhere in between the two. It does go up pretty high, though, which help with the noise levels...if the fans are making noise. They let you go down on the floor and shoot around. It was mostly kids or high school kids playing a quick game of one on one with a buddy or a guy playing keep away from his girl friend by dribbling it all over the place, which was really annoying while people were standing around waiting for a loose ball. Anyway, if Diaz would have boxed out as ferociously as some of the moms did to get their kid a chance at a shot, he would have been an All-American. Quote
HuskerBB Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Went through the arena today and was very impressed. As one who has been very skeptical from the beginning that combining with the city for a multi-purpose arena would result in a good basketball venue I can happily say I feel now that I was wrong. It would be possible to get seats closer to the floor - but this is very comparable to Devaney in that respect which surprised me for a multi-purpose arena. I wish we were putting students on both ends - but boy those lower seats on that non-student end are great seats. I know someone who has seats in that location and sitting there made me jealous. Went up to the top and that is pretty high - but they made things steep enough so it will not be a bad location at all for watching basketball. Skybox views also seem closer than I expected. Overall - in my view the perspective from every location is better than I thought it would be in terms of closeness to the court - and much better in that respect than the Qwest/Clink. Concessions and other amenties looked like they will be top notch as well. I might have preferred a little more of that on the floor level (there is just one place on that level on the south side) so everyone in the lower bowl is going to go up for food etc. But lots of variation and hopefully enough options to avoid lines that are too long. The capital terrace is a really neat idea and all around the concourse the views to the outside are really neat. Cool to walk along the east side and look over to the football stadium. Overall I was really happy with what I saw in pretty much every respect. Really looking forward to games there with a full house and an excited crowd with alot of energy. Have not had that with NU hoops for a long time. Quote
BLB115 Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 My kids and I got a pic with Miles. We happened to be walking by the bench area and he was down there. Daledangdarn 1 Quote
HB Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Went there late and saw a few football players shooting hoops. Jamal Turner swished a three pointer one handed while holding his daughter. Martinez' jump shot is not bad. Amenities looked good throughout. In the court area it definitely is not as intimate as BDSC. I am in Row 20 lower bowl, right at midcourt, and I don't think I'm any closer to the action than my C level seats in BDSC. But it's a cool place; I was just a little surprised at how far away from the court the lower bowl seats are. Wow, those 300 level seats are HIGH. Quite frankly, I don't know why anyone would pay to attend a game up there. And definitely not if it is on TV. I mean those are way away from the action. Norm Peterson 1 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 I'm not going to complain too much about the location of the seats. It's further away than I wanted. But, y'know, I can now hit the bathroom during a 30 second timeout and barely miss any action. So, you gotta take the bad with the good, right? Besides, they've got the jumbotrons on the hanging scoreboard that will surely carry live coverage of the action on the floor. They just need to up their game on showing instant replays because otherwise, you might miss a lot. And, I guess the worst thing from a basketball fan experience perspective is that, because of the increased distance, I now have no better view of the action than the game officials. I might now miss as much as they do. Oh well. I guess they won't have my help on making calls anymore. doc1394 1 Quote
Husker4theSpurs Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 I agree on the lower bowls feeling a bit away from the action. I thought the upper levels had great sight lines and angles and felt steep yet closer to the action than I'd figured. Regarding the upper bowls, I would think most would want to be in row 3 (at minimum) of each section because it seemed like the lower two rows may be viewing through some wires that work as part of the railing system. They are way better than CenturyLink...but my god the angle of the rows...it's almost like climbing a ladder to get to the sets. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Oh, one other thing: Concessions. Now, I'm not a big one to complain about food. Except if I don't have any. And my tastes run from pop tarts to sushi. But it better taste like what it's supposed to taste like. And have the right consistency, texture, whatever. The kettle chips I got were chewy. Not crisp. Chips aren't supposed to be chewy. And the burger shooter things need cheese. By themselves, they're bland. If you're not going to have Runzas there anymore, then do something more with the burger. Maybe I better bring my own cheese, because by itself, the burger was a bit bland. Quote

uneblinstu Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Norm, you'll probably be able to move closer over the next couple of years. Attrition will knock out some season ticket holders over time. Quote

I wasn't really noticing this..but my dad mentioned it when he saw the photo I took from my seat at the center. The rail is going to be a slight obstruction..and this is the third row. Quote

Norm Peterson Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 As I walked around, I did notice that there appeared to be a number of areas that they had to move railings from where they had originally put them and reposition them. Which meant they had to patch the areas where the railings had previously been. That seemed to be an unfortunate blemish in a brand new arena. Also, who gets to use the City of Lincoln's suite? Why does the City of Lincoln have a suite? How much does it set back taxpayers that the City of Lincoln owns a suite? I think the suite should be put up for sale to the highest bidder. Quote

Concrete Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Gonna head over there a little later today after work. Can you access the suites, or just 100/200/300/etc? Quote

Pretty much. It's only right that the owner of the place has a skybox. Doesn't the AD have two in Memorial Stadium (or did they give up the 1st one when they built the North addition)? Quote

So, owner gets a skybox. OK, there are 300,000 or so "owners." How do we decide which "owner" gets to use the suite for which particular event? Seems to me that's an excessively lavish perk for the Mayor and his henchmen. Or hench people if you'd rather. Quote

Norm, how do you expect them to lure Gallup back to Lincoln (or some other large jobs-providing company) than by taking them to a flashy Justin Bieber concert? And maybe they have a plan for everyone in the city to use it. You can fit like 20 people in there, times 365 days a year, equals 7300 people per year. It's possible that nothing will be going on the day you're assigned, and it might take 41 years for all 300K people to have their "suite day", but this surely will be the "People of Lincoln" suite. Bugeaters1 Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Did any of you that went to the Pinnacle Arena open house know that the Russel Stover candy display was a scratch and sniff ? My sister in law went this afternoon and was looking at the candy art when a gentleman told her that it was a scratch and sniff. So my sister in law scratched it and the gentleman walked off laughing. Quote
lang Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 204, for me. Well that makes 3 of us then....I'm in row 2 of 214 I got to see the arena tonight. I really like my seats, no complaints. Great to finally see the place. Little bit of a bummer that the floor seats are so far away behind the baskets. The last few years I have sat behind the East basket at Devaney towards the top. I'm not sure that wouldn't put me in the lower bowl at The Pinnacle ? Quote

Front of the 200 level is about equivalent to the bleacher seats, but much more comfortable and much fewer people in front of you. Quote
