I am guessing that he left without an offer. They are probably waiting to see if smith signs

He already has an offer.  No question about it.

Excerpt from a Rivals article after he received the Nebraska offer:

After scouting 6-foot-7 forward Sai Tummala of Salt Lake (Utah) Community College for more than two months, head coach Tim Miles officially offered the Phoenix native barely a month before the start of the spring signing period on April 17.

"It was just really exciting," Tummala said of the offer. "I'm really excited about what Coach Miles is doing down there, and I mean, it's the Big Ten, which is a big-time conference. They have all the facilities and everything in place to be a winning program. I'm really excited about that."

"There were numerous reasons why I decided to transfer," Tummala said. "One of them was financial, and another one was I really didn't think I was going to have the type of impact on the program that I wanted to have. I think there was definitely an opportunity to play, but I wanted to have a bigger impact. So I decided to go to junior college to a place where I could play 30 minutes a game and have a big impact on a team and win a lot of games. That's why I decided to leave."

What makes Nebraska's offer interesting is the obvious need to bring in big men in its 2013 class. At 6-7, 215, Tummala definitely doesn't fit the build of a traditional physical low-post presence, but what he lacks in size he makes up for with a versatile skill set on both ends of the floor.

As his stats would indicate, Tummala considers himself a good shooter, but he said he also takes pride in his ability to defend at almost any position on the floor and his aggressiveness on the offensive glass.

Tummala said both Smith and Miles both told him they weren't necessarily as worried about bringing in just size and strength as they were finding the right fits for their system.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I exceeded my tolerance for vague, cryptic tweets from recruits after Atewe's 4th or 5th one a couple of months ago.

I devote a solid five minutes of brainpower to this tweet and could not crack the code. Oh well... We'll find out soon enough.

The Huskers Illustrated article says that Sai enjoyed his time here and the highlight of his trip was time spent with Coach Miles. Sai absolutely loves Miles' honesty and straight-forwardness. He said all the coaches were great people and he loved their passion. He said he fits really well into the Miles offense and had a quote where he said something to the effect of, I think Miles would develop me and "eventually I could have a good role here."

I thought that last quote was interesting. You've got to wonder if Miles' brutal honesty is essentially a way of weeding out the attitude problem kids and the ones who would expect to play right away. I'm not saying this because I believe these things to be the case at all with Sai. In fact, Sai seems like a kid who's really got his stuff in order. With Miles, it just doesn't seem like, as a recruit, you're going to get fed the lines you want to hear. If you're a project that needs to work your butt off, but coach still likes your skillset, then that is probably exactly what you're gonna here from Miles. Coach doesn't seem like the type that's going to make any promises. So the recruits we end up signing are going to be ones that understand this and ones that have great work ethic.

An update from Robin:

Sai is gonna call him after he gets back to Utah. He's traveling back now with his father. Robins gonna get him for an interview tonight and then provide an article. He does know that the visit went very well and that Sai did not commit while on the visit.

Thanks for the breakdown.

I think this could be somewhat related to what he said in quote he had in a Rivals article when he got the Nebraska offer:

I don't think this is any coincedence at all.   Atewe alluded to the same thing ( the upfront honesty ).   I hope this pays dividends in the kind of guys we get and of course I really hope that it translates into success as well.

A few things:

Everything about the visit was great.  Much better than he expected.  Tummala had taken two visits before visiting Nebraska.  Those visits were to Penn and Brown.  He said he is no longer considering those two schools.  He plans to take one more visit before committing.  Other schools who have shown interest include BYU, Arizona State, Pittsburgh and Santa Clara, so it will be one of those schools.  Plans to be done with visits by next Monday or Tuesday.  Will make a decision within next two weeks.

I agree with Kamdy and I would say that Nebraska hit a homerun with Sai's visit and is definitely the school to beat.  Feeling pretty good about this one.

Thank you, sir.

That's good news.  Remember a couple of years ago how we couldn't shoot ourselves out of a zone?  Didn't have a zone buster on the team?  That's changing.  Next year, we are going to have some guys who can fill it up from beyond the arc.  And this kid could be of them.  (Assuming he signs as hoped.)

So it's basically down to 2. NU and ?. Should be interesting to see where he takes his final visit. Pitt/Az st. won't be easy to beat out if that's where he chooses to visit. And with BYU/Santa Clara, he might be guaranteed playing time.

These schools know that NU is the favorite, so they will pull out all the stops. Kind of like Auburn.

I think there's more to the Atewe story than meets the eye.  It's not that Auburn pulled out all the stops.  Probably not even that the AAU coach got involved.  Once we got Smith, Atewe might have been more of a back-up plan.  Just going off of things I've picked up, it looks like Tummala was (and remains) our primary target.  We got Smith and, with a spot left open for Tummala, that fills our open spots.  So the only way of getting Atewe is if we clear room on the current roster.  Which means we'd need to cut someone.

And, granted, Sergej is a project but so is Atewe.  Atewe has much greater athleticism than Sergej but lacks skills; Sergej isn't big and strong like Atewe but he's a lot more skilled.  So, do you exchange one project for another project?  Or do you maybe go luke warm on the one not already in the fold?

I don't know this but I suspect that when we didn't get a commit from Atewe right away after his visit, the coaches started looking for a Plan B big man, found one, and took the bird in the hand with Smith.  And that left Atewe as somewhat of an odd man out.  We'd still have some interest at that point, just in case Sai didn't commit, but our need for Atewe diminished when we got the Smith commit.  Just adding 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 and trying to figure out how to come up with 10.
