True but Parker did his against the Big 10 as a true freshman, while Peltz did his against the likes of Kent State as a junior.

yes but they also said Peltz had been playing on the knee that required surgery the whole time.  Though Benny brought better speed I felt Peltz had a better game as a distributor.

Sorry man, the numbers really don't bear that out.  Parker was playing hurt much of the season, too.  I don't think we saw all of what Parker is capable of.

I think the thing people are forgetting is that Mike Peltz is the better point guard of the two currently and Parker would have had even less minutes had they not had to shut him down.  Assuming Peltz comes back healthy I think it pushes Parker down even further if he doesnt make huge strides.

I have heard that Peltz will RS this season after the surgery to get stronger and then come back the following year...FWIW.

I was just going to say that we have Benny for 3 more years and Peltz for one.

I think what we need to remember that every player has a role on the team, and Miles will get the guys into their roles soon enough.

It's up to the players to except those roles or to find a place where they think they can play a role that they want.

I truly feel that Benny has a part to play and is willing to play that part.

I like Parker, and I hope he stays.  He hopefully wont have to be a star, but we need good role players like him.  A spark off of the bench.  I think he will look better next year in a run and gun style.  His quickness will become far more valuable then!

I'll take Peltz over Parker...bigger, scrappier.

Parker has very little (pun intended) upside.   No disrespect intended, but we'd be better off, IMO if he transferred.

Vooch can get stronger...big guys can fill out and 'grow' into their frames.   Parker isn't going to get taller.   He's not excessively quick for his size either.

I'd rather take the chance on the 2014 scholarship over what I think Parker will offer us in the future.

Not replying to anyone specifically here - but this reminds me of a time way back when we had a little freshman point guard who played very little and did not look good at all when he was on the floor.  At that time many wondered why in the world we ever gave the kid a scholarship - far more than are wondering why Benny Parker has a Husker BB scholarshi now.   Of course - that kid from many years ago is in the Husker BB Hall of Fame now.

Not saying Benny Parker is going to turn out to anything like Jack Moore.  But Parker contributed far more to the team this year than Moore did during his freshman season.  Don't understand why anyone would want to run off a player that at least was a decent contributor at times this season.  I certainly hope Benny stays and works to be the best player he can be - and many may in fact be surprised about his role in the future.

In response to the line about Benny being a contributor and people wanting to run him off.  I think alot of it is...that people doubt if he'd have been a contributor on a team that wasn't in such an abysmal personnel/talent situation coming into the year.

Does he contribute if we have more than 6 scholarship players?   It's not like he was a contributor here on a team that went 9 deep and went to the dance.

Again...not meant to be anything personal towards Benny but with Peltz, Tai and Biggs next year...I don't see much time there.   I'd much rather have an open spot to give to the 2014 class where we need to find some bigs

I don't get all the Parker hate and why lots seem to want him gone. I realize he didn't provide much this year and was forced to play. He obviously wasn't a guy this year that you could say-go get us a basket. He was in fact the exact opposite of this. He is tiny but I like his speed and ability to get after the ball on defense despite running on a bad wheel a majority of the season. He did show the ability to get to the rim and break out in transition. His game will be better suited for the game this team will be progressing toward next season and the season after. I'm not saying Benny will play over anyone else on the roster next season. There will be better options. Thank goodness Coach Miles has help on the way. There is a role for Parker on this team. There is something to be said for having the flexibility to insert a backup point guard into a game, if even for a minute or less, and a coach can say get in there, don't screw up. Benny may or may not provide a lift offensively, but he's going to play defense, take care of the ball, and avoid the catastrophic mistake while he's in. At this point it doesn't appear that he'll be much help offensively but I'm also in the camp that its too early to tell. Prior to B1G play and prior to injury, we saw glimpses of what Parker can do in the passing game. Against weaker competition, yes, but he showed several games where he had 6, 7, 8 assists with only 0, 1, 2 turnovers. Again, weaker competition but as a true freshman. Now he's been through the rigors of a B1G slate. An experienced backup point guard that won't screw up. There's a spot for one of those on this team. We have no idea if all of the newcomers will pan out. I will welcome Benny back if he wants to be here and that's what he chooses.

It's not hate...it's questioning what he will offer in the future along with the need for scholarships.

He got beat out by a guy who moved to point mid-season.   Next year you have two touted recruits (webster & biggs), Hawkins who played a combo guard and you return a walk-on in Peltz who is on the same level Parker is.   Where does he get the minutes.   Do you see him playing over Webster or Biggs?   I don't.   Do you see moving Webster or Biggs to the wing and taking time away from Gallegos, Rivers, Shields, Fuller or Hawkins to get Parker minutes?  I don't.

Yes, Parker is a freshman.   That changes.  What won't change is his physical limitations.  Those will always be there.

He was put on the back burner this year down the stretch for playing time.   From a talent perspective, we only improve next year.

I really don't see where someone can look and see where Parker has a defined role moving forward.  If he does...it's because someone else probably busted.

You look at our roster and evaluate where we could use that scholarship the most.   Where would we get the most help...getting another solid big guy in the 2014 class since we are thin there or keep a guy who is severly limited physically on scholarship as a 3rd or 4th option at point guard.

2014?  We don't need to figure out where that scholarship is going to come from for another year.  You've got that year to see how guys like Parker and Vucetic develop with another year of coaching, strength and conditoning and such.  If one or both of them don't progress, you can cross that bridge then, but we're not to it yet.

Considering we're going to have 4's playing the 5, 3's playing the 4 and some 2's playing the 3, there will be minutes for Parker, especially as Webster, Fuller and Hawkins will likely struggle at times with the transition like Benny did this year.

no you dont.  The majority of the top kids for the 2014 class will be signing this November so there's only 8 months to scout them and court them to sign with Nebraska.

Agree both should get one more year.  Many here wanted to run Rivers off after last year and I think most would be very happy with what he did this year.  IF Benny and Vooch don't improve between now and next year it might be time to talk to them about better options for them elsewhere.

Of coure they do.  They don't count against next year's scholarship numbers the day they sign.  They won't be on scholarship until a year from June or July or whenever that calendar starts.

Right but the majority of players sign in November so Nebraska can only sign 3 players this fall due to the oversigning rule of the B1G and hope that one player leaves.  Now if one left this year you could sign 3 with a 4th possible to oversign.

Not sure the Rivers example is the best example in this case.

But don't you go into your class a little differently knowing how many spots will be open or not.

The incoming freshman will more than likely experience growing pains next season as most do, but hopefully the transition will be  less arduous for them as it appeared to be for Parker.  I'm hoping all three are able to contribute closer to the level that Shields did this year.  I like Benny, but have a hard time finding minutes for him if the new guys are as good as we hope they are.

Given many here wanted him gone, I would say his improvement with some coaching gives creedance to giving both Benny and Vooch another year.

Rivers also has gifts/assets that Parker never had or will have (size).   There was also a need for Rivers to play this year which aided his improvement.  Really don't see that need for Parker next year.

We played with 6 this year...so don't think it's a given there are minutes there for him if he doesn't make us better.

Webster, Fuller and Hawkins will likely struggle at times next year...of course all 3 are all likely to be better players than Parker and with a deeper team won't be as obvious.

And for the record...I don't think it was the transititioning to the Big 10 level that is behind Parker's struggles.   It's size, talent and ability.

Sorry, I just don't think we're in a place where we can just let capable players go because we might, maybe, perhaps get a better player in here.

Not really.  I trust Miles knows what he's going and will do what's best for the program and has his pulse on what will or won't be available to work with.

Maybe.  I think Fuller or Hawkins could redshirt, but I don't think you can assume that they'll have easy transitions.  The best teams have freshmen that are impact freshmen, but the vast majority of frosh don't become major contributors the moment they step on campus.  Shields was the exception, not the rule.  I don't care how highly touted the freshman is.  What if one or more of them (or someone else) gets hurt or just flat struggles.  Then we go from being nine or ten deep to being back to seven.  You're going to want a guy who's been through it before.

He's got talent, I absolutely believe that.  We're making dangerous assumptions if we think Webster, Fuller and Hawkins will walk on campus and automatically be better than anyone currently on the roster.  We might think that, but we don't know that.  We've seen several guys in this program make progress every year and become quality players by the time they were done.  I have a hard time believing we're in a place where we can just be cutting bait with capable players, which Benny is.  His height will always be something he fights against, no doubt, but that doesn't mean he can't contribute to this program.
