Gee, I wonder if it's because we play 6 guys who are transfer portal first-year players. It's almost like building a team like that isn't sustainable. Last year was obviously lightning in a bottle at this point.

Nine of our players receiving significant playing time are portal players. Only Sam and Cale are Husker HS signees with Nebraska

Disagree with this take in today’s game… every team is like this. Every single one.

All portal players are not created equal. Also if the coaching staff can't integrate a large number of short-term players into a cohesive team, the transfer market is not a winning plan.

This hurts so much. Most years I’m ready for a stretch of games like this at some point. But after who we brought in, how we started the season and how far it has spiraled, I am feeling pretty down about it.

Just feels like a whole bunch of individuals doing their own thing rather than a team effort.

We have a lot of open shots we miss. We can play the most team oriented,  but this is how it looks.

I mean, we are redshirting three guys also. We’re trying to blend the development and instant impact methods.

Then you have to find a different guy to lead because you aren’t building a team on minimal transfers in 2025.

The problem will be, as always, we can get 1 or 2 players who are ready to rock but running out of eligibility and 1 or 2 who are potentially good but not going to hit their prime in time

Mostly agree, but Nebraska never has figured out the way to build quick, and with 1-2 years of eligibility there is never development either

It’s a weird feeling because we hired a guy who won the transfer portal before there was one… and we can’t take an advantage. Unless we just aren’t competitive $$$ wise.

It will change from year to year but have to develop a core as well as supplement with portal. Wouldn't want to be a coach to try and figure it out.

Fred back on the hot seat next year?

What makes anyone think he will produce anything different next year. Another year of 9 new guys trying to mess with Fred saying they are all shooters and real athletic.

Couldnt disagree with you more.

They average 85 PPG.  Ended with 83.  Do they score more if it's close?  Probably.

It came down to missed lay-ups (6) and points off turnovers (17 - 3).

We have to take care of the ball, make lay-ups and open 3's.  That's the only way we get out of this funk.

But he also struggled in the NBA where there is a lot of roster turnover.

Hoiberg was portalling ahead of the rest of the country just like the Husker FB team was strength and conditioning before others...the world caught up and we aren't seeing another King-Reid-Chubick-Piatkowski-Strickland-Boone-Woolridge-Badgett generation of Nebraska Freshmen

We can go all the way back to the intrasquad scrimmage when people were wondering if we sucked at shooting. Turns out, yes.

Just a few weeks ago this looked like a possible tournament team and he was coach of the year last year. I just don't see how a program like Nebraska dumps him this off season.
