This can't be good. Roster size limits are already shrinking and incoming freshman are going to have a hard time competing for a spot.

It's good for us to get older!

You'll see more guys either go more Juco or D-II instead of rounding out D-1 rosters and then you'll get more transfers from those places.

Norm has been an advocate for this change for a few years.  I'm in agreement as well.  Now, they need to get a grip on NIL money and transfer/portal rules.

Is the NIL money open to the public

I think this is a great idea. It allows non-bluebloods to balance age against beauty, basically.

The post-Covid experience really showed that you can level the playing field more readily when a team with some early-entrant lottery picks goes up against a team with a guy who's played 5 years.

I find it extremely hard to believe Oregon has damn near a billion dollars in their NIL collective.

I think this site is probably a more accurate representation of schools' NIL numbers:  https://nil-ncaa.com

It is my understand that Phil Knight has personally donated $1 billion +.

Their NIL collective is called Division Street.  It is my understanding they have a mere $23 million annual budget.  But mega additional funds are available as warranted.

I agree on your premise, but there's no free lunch. Unless you increase roster sizes or regulate NIL, this leaves out a sizeable number of high school kids from getting offers.

Maybe JUCO benefits the most from this proposal?

I've heard that, like in football, it would be four full seasons of eligibility plus x amount of games in the 5th season. Maybe 8-10 games in basketball. So it won't be like Ulis and Morgan would have another year of eligibility if this goes through, as was speculated when this news originally broke last fall.

It would've been nice to have an answer on this prior to the basketball season so our redshirts could've gotten some experience in the non-con.

And remember, Juco years might not count anymore. May end up looking like…

Juco = Rookie and High A Ball

4 Year = Double and Triple A Ball

Pro = MLB

I think it is going to be a straight 5 years, no redshirt. Be nice for the guys this year, could have got some PT at least.

The NCAA is like an overworked mom. When she says no the kids ask the unknowing dad (courts) till they get their yes. When she finally says yes the kids take it to extremes. Unfortunately for the NCAA, the bratty kids never leave for college

Robin posted today about starting the grind of 18 straight B1G games. That got me thinking how fun it might be to change up the way basketball schedules. (I know, not going to happen)

Beginning of the season through feast week: Stays the same with non-conference opponent games being played.

December through early February: This is where the entire conference slate would be played.

Mid-Feb to end of regular season: A 2nd non-conference season. This is also where conference challenge games could be played.  We’d follow up with conference tournaments like normal.

Benefits: Gives teams time to heal with a 2nd non-con season. How fun would conference challenge games be with bubble teams in late Feb!?!? Out of the running? Maybe you focus time on younger guys during the 2nd non-con. Could give mid-majors who had a really good conference record something to play for in games against likely P4 teams.
