@RobinWashut: #Nebrasketball 2014 PF target Tory Miller says he has two visits in mind for schools "in the Great Plains". Good chance one could be NU.

So out his offers, which are considered within the Great Plains?

Depending on somebody's definition of Great Plains...verbal commits lists these that would qualify:

Kansas State

Iowa

Nebraska

Creighton

Missouri State

Wichita State

Two not in my view of the Great Plains....but maybe they are in somebody's mind...

Minnesota

Marquette

Did a google image search of Great Plains maps. The region extends from Texas up into Canada, but the eastern boarder on most maps is the Missouri River. So by those maps Iowa doesn't count. Some maps even bring the eastern boarder a little further west so that Lincoln is in the Great Plains, but Omaha, and with it, the Bluejays are not located in the Great Plains. That is the map I choose to go by.

The region then follows the eastern boarders of the Dakotas to the north excluding Minnesota. Marquette is a whole 'nother state to the east and is clearly out of the Great Plains.

Missouri State is out too.

Finally, Baylor may be a fringe plains school depending on which map you look at. But I still think Waco is too far south and east to merit discussion about Baylor being in the plains region. Hopefully Miller has a good grip on his geography before he makes his decision. Someone show him the map where Creighton is not located on the Great Plains!

Well if you are using something like the below as your map of the "Great Plains" then take out the schools east of the Missouri River....but be ready to include not only Baylor but Colorado as a possibilities, as they are on Tory's list.

The below map found on Google images is from the US gov't!      http://www.usbr.gov/foia/contacts.html

Perhaps it has been too long since I experienced a refreshing summer visit to the "Great Plains" city of Boulder.

However, I will be eternally grateful that the person using this definition did not lead my wagon train in the mid 1800's across the plains in the eastern 2/3 of  Colorado...that 100 miles west of Denver might be tougher than it looks here.

Then contemplate how the 4 hour drives between both Council Bluffs to Iowa City and Lincoln to Ogallala are different from the "Great Plains" perspective.

This is pretty funny.  Dimes is spot on, of course, on whose definition matters.  But consider this: (i) Trick's map tracks the continental divide--so everything on the east slope of the rocky mountains is included in the "great plains" by that definition, but (ii) here is another map that appears to exclude from the "great plains" not only Iowa, but also Omaha, Lincoln and Boulder--and perhaps Manhattan, Kansas, too:

Pretty sure you can take Creighton out of the list.  They're focused on guards and wings for 2014, and there is not much evidence of contact between the Jays and Miller since his reclassification.  A couple of the recruiting sites do not even show a Creighton offer.

Besides the probable Nebraska visit, Iowa, Colorado, Kansas State, and maybe Marquette look to be the likely "Great Plains" visit candidates.

FWIW, I think this would be a great get for the Huskers.

Miller now holding offers from Miami and Oklahoma State according to his uncle. Cowboys are clearly within the Great Plains region, so there's some more competition for one of those visits.

@clintmcdaniel89: Latest offers neph @MillerTory k-state tulsa iowa,Georgia tech, cal, arizona st. Colorado, Vcu, Miami, okla st.

Interesting. Does the uncle suggest here that Miller was offered by Arkansas for 2013 but doesn't have a commitable offer from them after his reclassification?

@cecape66: @clintmcdaniel89 has he been offered by Arkansas yet?

@clintmcdaniel89: "@cecape66: @clintmcdaniel89 has he been offered by Arkansas yet?"yes last year

You worry way too much about Creighton.  I haven't heard anything about Miller since he reclassed.  I'd be surprised if he still has a committable offer...  (in fact, I suspect the offer ceased to be committable for 2013 once Hanson and Hegner committed).  That being said, Miler seems like he would be a good get.

I haven't followed recruiting all that carefully, but from a quick glance it looks like the only guys Creighton and Nebraska are both pursuing are those Texas kids that visited earlier in the summer with Adam Barnes.

I wish I would have seen this post before I typed my reply.  Badgett sums up the situation pretty well IMO.

Wow. Tory is really blowing up. And that's in the fall, which says more than blowing up in the spring when everyone's looking over the slim pickins to fill that last spot. Good for Tory.

Yes blowing up. Recent offers added include Baylor, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Colorado, Arizona State, and Cal. Add those offers to Nebraska, Arkansas, Penn State, Iowa, Creighton, Wichita State, Marquette, and Minnesota.

Arkansas and Tim Miles at CSU were his first two offers on the same day. A month later Coach Miles extended an NU offer when he came here. Miller came up for an unofficial last summer. Then Miller reclassified from 2013 to 2014. Tory's uncle is former Arkansas player Clint McDaniel. So weve got that working against us. But at one point last year he eliminated Arkansas from his list. I'm pretty sure Robin wrote an article about this, I'll have to go back and do some reading. Now that he's got all these other offers who knows where we stand. Hopefully Miles can get him in here for an official.

Clint McDaniel?  He was on the 1994 Arkansas National Championship team.  McDaniel and Beck, the other guard, were outstanding defenders.  Good bloodlines.

I think Corliss Williamson was the horse of that team.

I went to every Arkansas basketball camp as a kid and I actually have a team ball signed by the entire 1994 Natl Champs.  Should have won in 95' as well but Toby Bailey decided to have the game of his life for UCLA.  Not that I'm still bitter or anything.  McDaniel and Beck were the guards.  Then Thurman, Williamson and Stewart were the other 3 starters.  Alex Dillard was a guard off the bench that could pretty much shoot 3's from anywhere once he stepped on the floor.  He was always my favorite player.  Throw in Lee Wilson as well and they were just loaded.  4 of their starters got drafted, but really only Williamson panned out in the NBA.  Thurman left early with Corliss which ended up being a big mistake.

Sounds like we are out of the running with Tory Miller.

@clintmcdaniel89: Marquette, Arizona st, Iowa, Miami,Colorado.. Are the final schools set for @MillerTory visits.. All Good options neph! Congrats! #KcRunGmc

Lincoln didnt make it as a Great Plains finalist. Possibly Bolden, Gilmore, Deng...and maybe some others we haven't heard of yet are strong contenders to take up 2 more spots. Or maybe just 1 spot...

As much as I liked Tory, I think the three listed are still very good options and I would be content with them. You also forgot about David wacker.

Yes David Wacker is visiting but I would be beyond surprised if he wasn't option D behind those other 3 I listed.

Once Talley left, we forgot about the Wacker.

I can live with the fact that he chose 5 other schools to visit.  What's a bit hard to stomach is Iowa being one of them.  (And, really, Miami too.)
