This is bunk. Tarleton St and their 6'5" center held this team to 65 points packing the paint in Michigan because Billy Clyde demands effort

That's not the point. When you help off three point shooter all the way into the paint, you can't cover the distance when they skip pass. Doesn't matter how hard you try, you can't run 15 feet faster than a pass. Michigan was averaging 6 threes a game and they had twice as many complete wide open this game because of Doc's nonsensical defense.

I am even beginning to question Fred. For someone who values the three so much on offense, he should have some sense at all that we need to guard it on the other end.

This baffles me as well!!  Just don't get it.

It is not a lack of effort on the players

Some of it may fall on coaching-- but don't let the players off too easy on the D end.  There are plenty of times where at least 1-2 people on a trip lack some effort on that end.  You can also eliminate some wide open 3's if you don't have to help off because your man drives around you every single time.

Bryce is 4 star player playing 1 start defense. He gives poor effort.

We got pushed around in the low block.

Help defense, was well, no help at all. Mich had so many wide open uncontested shots.

If the problem is purely schematic why doesn't Fred Hoiberg have Doc scheme up a man defense that runs guys off the 3pt line to our shot blockers?

not sure if your were trying to prove my exact point but you did anyways. But we are playing too much help defense on the drive which leads to open threes.

I wasn't. That was example. No help on dribble drive, post, mid range, 3. No help at all. No double teams to seal off. In general to much standing around watching the ball, which was demonstrated by several video posted by the clarinet player who works for the OWH.

Brutal performance. It was maddening. Players should be holding each other accountable for lack of effort on both ends of the court. Coaches need to figure this out, immediately.

I feared that Trey being out could lead to poor play, but I never imagined that this team would completely crumple.

Multiple times Michigan came down the court and we didn't seem to be on the same page on which one of the five opponents we were supposed to guard.  One to two guys for Michigan on the side just ready to pop a 3.  Complete breakdown that repeatedly happened before we even got to the point of running a defense against a half court offense.

I have a different one of these for any post you can conceive of to put Doc Sadler under the mask at the end of a scooby doo episode

It's too bad that Kesei isn't the Japanese Usain Bolt as we might have been ok on that play.

yeah...going to be interesting when Trey comes back.  Coach was even asked who the leader of the team was.  He said Trey.  Kind of hard of him to inspire and lead when he's using a scooter...unless Coach can get the NCAA to allow a player on a scooter to be out on the court.

maybe a bit more litigation left in NUs satchel for one more threat? Tellthe conference they're getting an ADA suit if they don't let Trey play.

Wow.  What the heck is Wilcher doing on that play?!?!

Haven't read entire thread so maybe this was already discussed but several a husker defenders closed out poorly. Instead of "closing out" opponent with hands/arms up, keeping weight down and trying to get in good defensive position. (Have seen teams do a drill in warm ups where the players do chop steps to practice proper close out.) They would run upright at offensive players ball control hand and pretty much run past him. That created a numbers situation for UM which allowed them to find wide open shooter. Eduardo and Bryce did it multiple times and Walker got his butt foul for doing similar thing.
