2018 F Timmy Allen -> Utah
AuroranHusker and 5 others reacted to RedKorn for a topic
Long time lurker... I watched Teddy Allen play 3 games this summer at OSA and was amazed at his scoring ability, no one could stop him. And he had no D1 offers when I watched him and I didn't know who he was. Teddy just had an incredible week at the Las Vegas Fab 48 tourney. The first game of pool play against E1T1 he scored 30. E1T1 has a top 10 kid that both Coach K and Coach Cal are recruiting and Cal was in attendance. He then scored 38 against a shoe-sponsored team and didn't play the last 10 minutes because it was a blow out. He then got offered by Iowa St. He scored 24 in the next game and then 38 against the Indy Hoosiers. came through. The team they beat in their first game lost in the Semi's. The team that OSA lost to in the quarterfinals, Earl Watson Elite, went on to win the tournament. Teddy had 20 in that game. OSA won 5 games, 2 against Peach Jam qualifiers, and 2 others against Under Armor sponsored programs. When I watched him in early July I thought maybe he was just dominating some lesser talented opponents but he has now played against a lot of highly recruited studs and he has continued to be a dominant scorer. Timmy Allen plays summer ball for Compton Elite, a very strong program and the team had a very good summer. He has offers from UCLA, ASU, and USC and according to his twitter he's going to visit Arizona but doesn't have an offer. I watched a recent interview with him and he said he will entertain offers from anywhere, not set on staying in the Pac-10 (12, 14 16, whatever it is). The interviewer also asked him if the school he would attend would have to wear certain gear (they're sponsored by one of the shoe companies) and he said no. I absolutely love Tim Miles and think he has recruited well with the exception of not landing a big man until Jordy. However, I can't for the life of me comprehend why we haven't offer Teddy, especially since we offered his brother back in October. They tweet each other regularly @timmybuckets35 and @jusshoopteddy if you're interested in following. Let's get these brothers back together coach Tim.6 points -

Watched it from my couch. Cascio-Jensen looked good. Shot it well and attacked the glass strongly, albeit against non-D1 athletes. Needs a lot of work on her handles to play power 5 ball. Has some potential if she does that.2 points

Sounds like a franchise start-up by AWIII. Sorry, couldn't resist.2 points -
One last reply and then I'm on to other things. In the past If my memory serves me right I believe I said that we will never know all the reasons for her departure. I have faith in our athletic director that many things were taken into account. Nobody in their right mind would arrive at that decision based on the last 2 years of a near 50/50 conference record especially with a great tenure to that point. I wish it would all have worked out differently and we would be discussing other WBB news but it didn't. Unfortunately life has many disappointments. This is another example.2 points

If we raise his jersey to the rafters now, it will become the "gold standard".1 point -
Andre played because he was the 'best' we had at the position at the time. Jordy will play because he is the 'best' we have at the position now (and I think he will play very well, indeed! )1 point

So . . . it looks like we are poised for another breakout year (a little levity -- but no sarcasm -- intended). Here's what our soon-to-be contributors looked like at the beginning of 2013-2014's highly-successful season: Tai Webster -- a freshman point guard David Rivers -- a 6'7 198 lb. Junior forward, who would spend lots of time in the paint with bigs Benny Parker -- a 1- or 2- star point guard sophomore Terran Petteway -- a yet-unproven sophomore wing, who would reach great heights Mike Peltz -- a no-star senior guard who would do the dirty work on defense Ray Gallegos -- a red-shirt senior guard -- a three-point specialist who shot .335 from three Leslee Smith -- a first-year, 6'8" 255 lb. junior center who would perform well-beyond expectations Shavon Shields -- a sophomore 2- or 3- star wing who would contribute beyond his years and experience Walter Pitchford -- a redshirt sophomore, who played pretty well most of that season Everyone picked this team dead-last in the Big Ten -- and deservedly so. They finished fourth and in the Dance. This season: Tai Webster -- a Senior who played well on occasion last year Anton Gill -- a redshirt junior and former four-star recruit Glynn Watson -- a sophomore point guard -- four-star -- who played very well last year Jack McVeigh -- a sophomore three-point specialist who, when playing heavy minutes, shot well over .400 last year Michael Jacobson -- a sophomore who performed well beyond expectations last year Ed Morrow -- a sophomore four-star who grew tremendously last year when healthy Jeriah Horne -- a Top 150 freshman Isaiah Roby -- a four-star freshman Jordy Tshimanga -- a Top 150 freshman big Everyone is picking this team in the bottom two or three of the league. The foregoing shows why they play the games. It will be fun to see how much these guys beat expectations this season.1 point -

I do appreciate the civil discourse, but your last point about "what have you done for me lately" is precisely what I have been at odds with in your posts since Yori got canned by Eichorst. Your focus in apparently supporting the firing has seemed to be based on the conference record the last 2 years, and things that were going on in the moment, vs. the long term record of success. Perhaps I have misunderstood a multitude of posts on the subject. In any event, I didn't mean to hijack the thread, which was supposed to be about the Corn Nation article.1 point -

Also, a point of order: The original post in the thread linked to the Corn Nation article and asked posters to agree or disagree. In this sense, the original post invited discussion; it did not demand conformity of opinion. This is a discussion board where things are discussed, and the fact that we won't always agree on everything is, I think, a given. I don't expect everyone to always agree with me; I don't demand that people agree with me; in fact, I think it's best when there's a free exchange of ideas as long as it's mostly civil. Nothing facilitates discussion more than disagreement. In that vein, I'm going to register my objection to those people who choose to participate not by expressing an opinion with which or against which further discussion can be had, but rather by the use of the green "up" arrow and especially the red "down" arrow. I can generally accept a green "up" arrow as being something akin to saying "I agree" or "me too" or "plus 1." Those types of posts really don't require or invite a response. But a red "down" arrow is different. You cannot respond to or engage in discussion with a down arrow. If you don't have the balls to set forth an opinion with which others are free to agree or disagree, that's fine. But don't hide behind a down arrow that insulates you from having to defend a position and which effectively ends discussion. To me, down-arrowing others without participating in the discussion yourself is akin to throwing a rock at the other kids and then running to hide behind your mother's skirts. It's chickenshit is what it is.0 points -

I don't think Yori's departure had much, if anything, to do with on-court performance. And it certainly wasn't recruiting or "what have you done for me lately." I had started drafting a very lengthy summary of what I had learned from a multitude of sources about what went down. I was going to post it here so that everyone would have an idea of why the most successful coach in program history was suddenly gone. I had asked for approval from a number of the insiders who have told me things about this situation. Most said it was fine. Some just said don't link it back to them and make sure they're not identified as a source. One party, in particular, asked me not to post this for reasons personal to them. I decided to honor that last request and not post anything about what I've been told. Except that I will say it wasn't because of the "trajectory of the program." It wasn't that her successes were too distant and fleeting to save her job after a disappointing season this past year. It was ... other stuff. Most people should be able to connect a lot of the dots on their own.-1 points
