  1. Jeez, not even the OWH can spell the poor kid's name right...SMH. Did the Weird Harold spell it chimichanga?

  2. This is a guy who -- along with a group of his cohorts -- got drunk with and fondled a rather unattractive, middle-aged hag in an Italian restaurant. He then banged her on the floor of said restaurant while they were closing-up, succumbed to the throws of passion and lasted a mere 15 seconds during the sexual encounter, got her pregnant, and later gave her $3,000 for an abortion. AND somehow got her sent to prison for seven years for extortion. The only thing that surprises me about this is that the escorts were for the players/recruits and not Pitino himself. Part of me really hopes this is proven true and finally brings him down. How any parent would trust this man with developing and shaping their son's life is beyond me.

  3. I report. You decide. Your argument is with Washut, not me.

  4. Initial reports indicate he had a pimp on his staff. Whether it proves to be true or not, it has got to hurt recruiting for a while in Louisville.

  5. A mention like that implies a known entity. I'm sure we're still pursuing our 2016 recruits because we have to be dumb not to. I have zero on this but what if SMU's Markus Kennedy, who went to Brewster Academy, was to graduate from SMU (assuming he hasn't already since he's a 5th year redshirt)? Well, if, by some chance, we could get Markus Kennedy in here, it would HAVE to be for THIS year, not next. And I'd be OK with that, like totally. (He's already transferred once, from Nova to SMU, so he doesn't have time to sit out another year.) But that still leaves a spot for next year. And we still need a center. So, Swan's scenario via Robin Washut, and the scenario whereby we still pursue HS options, are not mutually exclusive. I would LOVE to get some guy in here on a transfer basis right now. If he could swing it, he'd be eligible to play against Samford on 12/20, which means he'd miss 12 games but he'd be able to play for the entire conference season. And he'd be eligible for post-season play, which is a better deal than if he'd stayed at SMU. Adding a 6'9" 245# proven stud center to this roster would most definitely not suck.

  8. All kidding aside, LK1, that's a good question. One thing that you have to factor aside from standing vertical reach -- a 6'7" guy with a short neck and really long arms might be able to reach as high as a 6'10" guy with a really long neck and not so long arms -- is overall body mass. These guys are throwing their bodies into one another all game long and mass matters in such situations. If you're leaning against a 210# guy and you weigh 250#, you're eventually going to wear him out no matter how strong he is. Hell, Aleks Maric was like 270# at his peak and was strong as an ox, to boot. There weren't a lot of dudes out there who could body up against him all game long. I don't care if your 6'7" kid has a 15 foot wingspan. If he doesn't weigh a good 240-250#, he's going to have a tough time holding down the paint. Typically, the taller the person, the more mass they can carry and still maintain good basketball conditioning. When I talk about a center or a big man, in my mind, what I'm thinking of is a guy with basically Moses Abraham's dimensions or larger: 6'9" and 250#. He needs to carry that weight and still be athletic and strong. As an added bonus, it'd be nice if he had soft hands and some skill, which Moses was a bit short on.

  10. "What can we do?" is a distinctly different question from "What will we do?" If we wanted to, we could have the guy verbal and then drop a player from scholarship at the end of the year if none are leaving. We had this scenario with Agau and McVeigh. We could have had Agau transfer here, McVeigh verbal, and then figured it out at the end of the year. If we wanted to, we could verbal the Top 50 guy and let the guys figure out who is getting cut in the offseason. For better or for worse Miles doesn't seem to run his rosters like that though Agau wasn't a top 50 guy so we really don't know for sure what will happen. "Holding a scholarship" requires a bit of discussion because the natural inference to me is that Miles is deliberately not recruiting a year because he's going to use the scholarship for a better player or bigger need in a later class. I believe he specifically stated this intention his first year. However, the resulting years of us not filling that scholarship have been the product of our unwillingness to over-recruit coupled with our inability to reel in the few people we were recruiting. We choose not to settle for a JUCO guy in the belief that we will fill the scholarship the next year. It might be semantics, but I call what he's doing 'not filling a scholarship' as opposed to 'holding a scholarship'.

  11. Certainly. Or, to quote Mars Blackmon: it's gotta be the shoes... Or the large manilla envelope that was sent to his mom yesterday. Hope it doesn't rip open like the other time at Kentucky.

Do we try to break the 20-page curse with this one?

I can go either way on this subject, but I probably wouldn't buy a $9 beer at a game. I also don't see it as being as big of a problem as some people think. The ones who are going to get drunk and disorderly at a Nebrasketball game, or any other sporting event, are usually already drunk when they show up in the building.

GREAT! Now it'll be at least another year before we'll have to get off that high horse! I'll bet they'll be getting REALLY lathered up about this over on BJU pretty soon...

  16. As much as I enjoy a snifter of porte on the Holidays, I for one hope they NEVER sell beer at the Bank. While I understand the financial benefits would be lucrative, there is always that element of the crowd that would turn it into the 12th Annual Drunken Barn Dance.

  17. He also got Indiana to a #4 seed in 2012 and a #1 seed in 2013. Hate on the cat all you want but he has gotten results. The one I'm puzzled about is McCaffery as high up the list as he is. I'd personally put him behind Crean and Painter.
