Time to start playing guys that want to win and not play for themselves.

A little harsh on Petteway. Actually, a lot harsh. You must not have watched the IW game. HIs shot selection was much better. So were his decisions on the drive in transition, to avoid the charge. He is the least of our problems. Interesting take on Webster, that runs contrary to virtually everyone else on the board. Other than horrible outside shooting, numerous defensive mistakes, and bad turnovers, you might be right. And oh yeah, the part about taking it to the hoop more: You think other teams don't have him figured out and won't allow that? When you can't shoot from 5 feet and beyond, teams will sag and take away the drive. Teams aren't even guarding him now from outside. Tai can improve the defense and turnovers. Not sure about the shooting, as we are 2 seasons into that at this point. I believe Petteway had about 4 assists and 4 rebounds before he took a shot in the IW game.2 points -

Right, if fans who watch the games rather than play in them just wouldn't be so accepting of losses they wouldn't happen. If all message board posters just drew the line and said "I won't tolerate this" all would be well. What we need is more outrage! Give me a break. Fans show up and cheer (at least some of us), but I've never seen the fans' mindset after the game set a screen, get a rebound, defend the paint, or make a shot. But now we know. Just don't be accepting of losses as a fan base, and then they won't happen, and we will have nice things. (P.S. If you were on this board after we lost to Maryland-Baltimore County, you wouldn't have thought that loss was being taken "with a grain of salt".)2 points -
Okay, everyone. Enough is enough. There is no way I'm going to let the Huskers lose three in a row at home, so I'm putting my money where my mouth is. When the Huskers win tonight, bring your ticket stub into Conlee's by the end of this year and I'll buy you a beer or soft drink of your choice (limit one per customer ). Void where prohibited and Go Big Red.1 point

Nebraska may have 9 losses on the year, but they also have played the most difficult schedule. I'd venture to guess that this team is better prepared for the post-season than any team out there. Hopefully the middles have another great night for Big Red!!1 point -

We're going to live in the paint tonight And hopefully Cincy continues to clank from the outside. But with our luck, this is the night they become a 3 pt shooting team. This is a Cincy team that graduated 3-4 seniors on their first true road game. I know they have the sort of rebounding/inside game that could rip us apart but it's a fairly good matchup for us. We just have to play in the paint like we have a pair.1 point -

BYU has that 6'7 giant playing for them, who last spring helped eliminate Connie Yori's team from getting back to Lincoln for the Sweet 16. She had 30 kills last night.1 point -

This Husker team reminds me of the 2008 team--one that lost quite a few matches in the season, and was perceived to have less talent than previous outfits. But it really shows how much team chemistry can change the equation!1 point

Because you can't steal the ball every time. Your man defence needs to have a focus to build around. If your goal is to steal the ball, that requires some gambling and you will give up a higher number of easy shots. If you just want to disrupt the offense, you will still give up some easy shots but less. If your goal is to not give up easy shots, (which is what the pack-line defense is designed to do) you don't create near as many turnovers but you don't give up easy shots. The goal is to force the offense to continue to work and force a bad shot out of frustration or near the end of the shot clock. As part of my philosophy on no easy shots, I think you need to double the post every time unless he is a complete stiff.1 point -
My idea for recreating Duckhunt and Super Mario Bros during freethrows is ruined. Damn it! http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-sports-bog/wp/2014/12/11/georgetown-fans-display-duck-hunt-inspired-animated-tifo-before-kansas-game/1 point

It was disappointing to not see the student section carry out those Husker Power signs. I sat there waiting for them while listening to the people in front of me politely clap three times after each player was announced. I get it though...it's hard to get going for these types of teams...we don't have the sort of basketball tradition where people show up and go nuts watching here for a paycheck U. It wasn't like the PBA was rocking last year to start the season...how rowdy was the crowd watching Western Illinois? The real disappointment about that lack of chant is that I personally feel that it sets a tone. It lets the team know that we're doing something besides tweeting, texting, knitting, etc to start the game.1 point

This team has some deficiencies that we knew we had going into the season. Some of the pieces we thought we were adding are maybe not as improved as we would have liked. Tai Webster's shot didn't improve as much as advertised, for example. Losing Gallegos and Smith hurt us worse than we probably expected. However, we didn't play that bad tonight. That guy from Incarnate Word was hitting contested threes and the ball was just falling for him. It just was. He probably won't shoot that way again in another game all year. Granted, we made some boneheaded plays at the end, but overall we didn't play poorly. If you think we did, then you were watching a different game than I was. Too many turnovers, but we were attacking the basket and we had some good ball movement on offense. Defensively, we were giving up too many points in the low post but that guy was getting some pretty lucky rolls too. Officiating actually might have cost us the game tonight because that wasn't a foul on that three pointer that allowed them to close within a point. The officiating was bad all night. Never seen Miles go after an officiating crew at the halftime buzzer like he did tonight. But they deserved it. Anyway, I refuse to panic. It's one game. It's a long season. We just missed a 3 foot putt but there are 17 more holes to play. Get over it.1 point -
I'm no expert either but I heard it described that Molinari's pack defense tries to force the offense to make more passes and finally heavily contest shots. Why would you want to force additional passes instead of just stealing the ball? I know that's a ridiculous question but to me we are clearly not being as aggressive in pressuring the ball as last season. Miles said in his presser that the aggressor always wins. We aren't being the agressor right now. I don't know if that is a player mentality thing, a Molinari principle thing, or if it's the players being tentative because they are learning the Molinari way type thing.0 points

After getting spanked by UTEP Monday night, IW spent the entire day Tuesday travelling from El Paso to Lincoln. The "big" man that abused Walter all night was so sick, he visited a hospital earlier in the day. There is no excuse (officiating, bad luck, etc.) for losing to Incarnate Word. Ever. Just stop it. But, hey, they beat UT-Tyler, Huston-Tillotson College, Texas International, and St. Edward waaaaaay worse than the Huskers. And, we played them much closer than Princeton. So, there's that. Anybody that won't admit this was probably the most humiliating loss that will occur this entire college basketball season (Michigan is grateful to be out of the spotlight) is, as our vested friends might say, delusional!-1 points -

Tim Miles is the guy no matter what happens this season anybody who does not think so need to stop being a Nebrasketball fan. What Miles said about the "Cool Kids" on the roster was great and telling on whats going on in the locker room..... I think this "Cool Kids" thing started after the Wisconsin game with one guy WALTER PITCHFORD that guy got way to high on himself and it has effected his game obviously. It sounds like to me he did not put in the work effort in the offseason like the other guys because he thought he was too "Cool" and thought he was a all-american. Now the slump has started and continues and instead of finding other ways to help the team he continues to shoot the ball as much he can to get the shot back that he had last season. The thing is tho thats great to try to get you mojo back in Threepointers but if they are not falling he needs to be man and help the team on defense or going for offensive rebounds or instead of jacking up threes post up in the paint and create lanes for Shields and Petteway. Walt wont do it because he feels his only game is from the outside and he continues to no help us this guy needs a reality check fast we need him more on defense and rebounding and scoring in the paint then outside shooting right now. So from what Miles was saying after the game I think points to Walter and I think Walter better hurry and change his game that help us or else when Leslee and Moses come back he will be on the bench for sure. This team still has alot to play for there is TWO really big wins we can get before conference play Cincy tomorrow and Witcha St (if we beat Hawaii). Remember this was the same team that was 8-10 going into the game against Ohio St at home and we pulled off MILES MAGIC and I think we can do it again and it starts tomorrow night you can not lose faith yet guys there so much basketball left....
